DOMETIC Collpower Raps 44 Portable Battery Pack
Before first use
Before using for the first time, charge your CooIPower44 using one of the methods described in Charging
Installation and operation
Your CooIPower44 is designed to run standing upright for stability and
convenient access to sockets and voltage display. However, operation at any
angle, from sideways to upside down, is permissible. The internal cells are
completely sealed and leak proof.
In vehicle
- Fit the charge lead screw terminal to the battery ‘CHARGE’ socket and plug the other end into the vehicle 12 volt socket.
- If the Dometic heavy duty wiring kit, RAPS12R-U2 has been fitted to the vehicle (recommended), connect the charge lead from the battery to the heavy-duty kit socket.
- Plug your WAECO compressor fridge or other 12V appliance into one of the front CoolPower sockets.
Stand alone
Connect your WAECO compressor fridge or other 12V appliance into one of the Front CoolPower sockets. To run your fridge for the longest possible time, make sure your CoolPower is fully charged first (see Charging – page 5).
Fridge running time
Your CooIPower44 is designed to run portable compressor refrigerators up to 65
litres, but will also run larger models for a limited time. Approximate run
times are as follows:
Your fridge will run for longer than stated times in cooler ambient conditions.
Testing
Disconnect the charge lead and press the button on your CoolPower front panel whilst your fridge is running.
Voltage
Your battery voltage will appear on the digital display. The precise remaining
capacity will vary depending on conditions such as ambient temperature, but as
a general guide will be as follows:
Voltage | Capacity |
---|---|
12.8V or more | 80%-100% |
12.3Vto12.7V | 40%-80% |
11.3Vto 12.2V | 20%-40% |
LED’s (on front panel)
A quick visual indication of the condition of your CoolPower can be obtained
at a glance. After disconnecting charging leads and pressing the test button:
LED indicator | Voltage | Action Required |
---|---|---|
‘FULL: green ON | 12.8V or more | None |
Both OFF | 11.4Vto 12.7V | Charging optional |
‘LOW’ red ON | 11.3V or less | Must charge |
Charging
In-car (12V)
- Plug the charge lead 2-pin screw connector into the ‘CHARGE’ socket on the left hand side of your CoolPower. Then plug the 12 volt plug on the other end of the charge lead either directly into your vehicle 12 volt socket, or (recommended) into the Dometic RAPS12R-U2 heavy duty wiring kit socket pre-fitted to your vehicle.
- When the CoolPower is accepting charge from your vehicle battery, the green LED adjacent to the ‘CHARGE’ socket will illuminate.
240Vmains
- Ensure the battery charger is suitable for 44Ah AGM batteries.
- Most multi-stage battery chargers up to 1 OA maximum should be suitable
- An automatic cut out charger must be used, otherwise irreparable damage will occur and your warranty voided.
- Disconnect your fridge and DC charging lead from the battery.
- Before turning the battery charger on, connect the alligator clamps to the + and
- posts at the top of the Coo1Power44, ensuring good contact. Now turn the charger on.
- Charging times will vary depending on depth of battery discharge prior to charging and the battery charger used.
- To test your battery after charging, disconnect the charger, wait 30 minutes and then follow the procedure outlined in Testing (page 5).
Depth of discharge v’s battery life
- The depth of discharge (DOD) is the amount the battery is drained without charging. For example, a remaining capacity of 20% equates to an 80% DOD.
- The service life is the number of times the battery will cycle from fully charged to a given DOD. For a battery in continuous cycle service use, approximate service life figures are as follows:
DOD | Service Life (# Cycles) |
---|---|
80 % | 350 |
50 % | 600 |
30 % | 1,250 |
Total battery life is a combination of service life and storage conditions when not in use and is influenced by other variables. However as a general guideline you can increase the life of your battery by not discharging any further than necessary before charging.
Storage
All batteries benefit from periodic charging when not in use. Following this advice will ensure optimum life from your Coo1Power44. Self-discharge characteristics vary with ambient temperature and age, but as a general guideline the battery should be fully charged every 3-4 months.
