INSTRUCTIONS FOR FISHING CONDUIT
- Disconnect power.
- Identity both ends of the conduit and ensure the switchgear or other components in the area of the vault or box will not be damaged by inserting the rod
- If the conduit has existing wire, use the included flex tip on the rod for pushing.
- Insert the rod through the safety feed guide.
- Tighten or loosen the brake handle to the minimum drag required so that the rod does not feed itself from the cage.
- Push the rod through the duct using quick thrusts (approximate 6-12″ long) to minimize breakage. NOTE: When the end of the rod enters the box at end of the conduit and contacts the vault or box wall, vibrations can normally be felt in the rod.
- Attach the included pulling eye to the end of the rod and attach the wire to the end of the eye.
- Load the rod back into the cage as it is being pulled out of the conduit. Use short, straight pulls to get the rod back into the cage. WARNING: Do not bend, twist, or jerk the rod. Do not spin the cage.
- If pulling stops automatically, check for any kinks in the cable or wire at entry.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPLICING THE ROD OR ATTACHING A NEW END FERRULE
If your gets damaged and need to be repaired, please follow these
instructions:
- Cut away the damaged section(s) of the rod with a fine-tooth hacksaw or sharp knife, and strip the jacket back about 1/2″. CAUTION: Do not cut into or crush fiberglass core.
- Use an emery cloth to lightly roughen the surface of the fiberglass core end (Fig. 1 ).
- Clean the end of the fiberglass core with solvents such as lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol and allow it to dry completely.
- Apply a drop of adhesive to the fiberglass core end (in case of a splice, do one end at a time as in Fig. 2A) and spread over the glass core with a toothpick or nail.
- Twist the ferrule while inserting the rod (Fig. 2A and 2B), clean off excess glue, and for end ferrule repair, use emery cloth to sand off excess rod extending from the end of the ferrule.
- Allow sufficient time for the adhesive to cure. It sets in seconds but requires 24 hours to fully cure.
