How to access the internal parts of Liberty Telescopic Flagpole

2020 – Previous Models
  • Collapse the flagpole. Take the flagpole out of the ground sleeve so you can access the very bottom of it.
  • The very bottom of the flagpole has a plastic bottom cap. The cap is in place to hold the next smallest diameter pole section inside of the flagpole.
  • The bottom cap is held in by a 3/16” x 2 ½” roll pin, which is located about 1” up from the bottom of the flagpole.
  • You need to remove this roll pin. You can use a small screw driver or punch and a hammer to tap the roll pin completely out of the flagpole.
  • Once the pin is removed, you can take the bottom cap off out of the flagpole.
2021 – Current Models
  • Collapse the flagpole. Take the flagpole out of the ground sleeve so you can access the very bottom of it.
  • The very bottom of the flagpole has a plastic bottom cap. The cap is in place to hold the next smallest diameter pole section inside of the flagpole.
  • The bottom cap is being held in by 2 rectangular tabs on opposite ends.
  • You can take a flat head screwdriver and slightly push the tabs in to release the end cap.
  • Once you release the end cap there will also be a bumper attached to the end cap o The bumper is used as a cushion to prevent the pole section inside from damaging the end cap.

YOU NOW HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNAL LOCK PIECES

  • Slide the biggest bottom base diameter of the flagpole upwards toward the top. This will expose the largest internal lock piece.
  • If you have a button that is out of place, stuck inside of a locking cam or that has fallen inside of the flagpole, you will now be able to access it and reinsert the button into the locking cam.

To access the smaller locks on the other diameters, you have to remove the largest cam lock that is exposed – (by drilling the rivets out) and sliding the pole section toward the top – if needed.

  • The L-17 – 17’ Liberty Flagpole has 3 different diameters and has 2 different size locking cams.
  • The L-21 – 21’ Liberty Flagpole has 4 different diameters and has 3 different size locking cams.
CAM Replacements

To remove existing CAM, use drill and drill the rivets out. Do this for all necessary sizes.

To install CAM, insert in appropriate size aluminum section in direction as shown in photo.

Rivet is to be inserted into lined up holes with pin/stem sticking out. Use rivet gun to install rivets. Rivet gun will cut pin/stem off and should be flush with the pole.

If replacing CAM on multiple size sections, be sure to start with the smallest diameter pole first.

Bushing Replacements

Remove existing bushings:

  • Take a Philips flat head screwdriver and push the black rectangular tabs in on both sides. This will pop out the existing bushing.
  • To replace it take a new bushing and push the tabs and insert it inside the pole.
  • Once it is inserted turn it around until you here the tabs clip in place.

Reassemble Flagpole

To reassemble the flagpole, start with the 1-3/4” (smallest diameter) pole. Install the small CAM onbthis section first.
Then slide the 2” pole over the top of the 1-3/4” pole. Install the medium CAM at the end of the 2”pole.
Next take the 2-1/4” section and slide it through the top of the 1-3/4” and 2” pole sections. Install the large CAM at the end of this pole.
Finally take the 2-1/2” section and slide it over the top of 1-3/4″ pole and the rest of the assembled pole sections.
After this you can place your end cap and roll pin.
