Incorrect operation may cause injury

WARNING
Always unplug the power cord when attaching or removing parts and optional parts and when performing cleaning or maintenance that does not require the machine to be connected to a power source. Attempting such operations while the machine is connected to a power source may result in injury or electrical shock.
Keep children away from the machine. The machine includes areas and components that pose a hazard to children and may result in injury, blindness, choking, or other serious accident.
Never attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the machine. Doing so may result in fire, electrical shock, or injury. Entrust repairs to a trained service technician.
Be sure to follow the operation procedures described in the user’s manual. Never allow anyone unfamiliar with the usage or handling of the machine to touch it. Incorrect usage or handling may lead to an accident.
Never operate the machine while tired or after ingesting alcohol or any medication. Operation requires unimpaired judgment. Operating with impaired judgment may result in an accident.

WARNING
Conduct operations in a clean, brightly lit location. Working in a location that is dark or cluttered may lead to an accident, such as becoming caught in the machine as the result of an inadvertent stumble.
Never climb or lean on the machine. The machine is not made to support a person. Climbing or leaning on the machine may dislodge components and cause a slip or fall, resulting in injury.
CAUTION
Exercise caution to avoid being pinched or becoming caught. Inadvertent contact with certain areas may cause the hand or fingers to be pinched or become caught. Use care when performing operations.
Never attempt operation while wearing a necktie, necklace, loose clothing, or gloves. Bind long hair securely. Such items may become caught in the machine, resulting in injury.

This is a heavy machine.

CAUTION
Unloading and emplacement are operations that must be performed by six persons or more. Tasks that require undue effort when performed by a small number of persons may result in physical injury. Also, if dropped, such items may cause injury.

CAUTION
Install the machine in a location that is level, stable, and able to bear the weight of the machine. The total weight of the machine may reach over 155 kg (341.7 lb.). Installation in an unsuitable location may cause a major accident, including tip over, fall, or collapse.

Danger of electrical short, electrical shock, or fire

WARNING
Connect to an electrical outlet that complies with this machine’s ratings (for voltage, frequency, and current). Incorrect voltage or insufficient current may cause fire or electrical shock.
If sparks, smoke, burning odors, unusual sounds, or abnormal operation occur, immediately unplug the power cord. Never use if any component is damaged. Continuing to use the machine may result in fire, electrical shock, or injury. Contact your authorized Roland DG Corporation dealer.
Never use outside or in any location where exposure to water or high humidity may occur. Do not touch the power cord, plug, or electrical outlet with wet hands. Doing so may result in fire or electrical shock.
Never allow any foreign object to get inside. Never expose the machine to liquid spills. Inserting objects such as coins or matches or allowing beverages to be spilled into the ventilation ports may result in fire or electrical shock. If anything gets inside, immediately disconnect the power cord and contact your authorized Roland DG Corporation dealer.
Never place any flammable object nearby. Never use a combustible aerosol spray nearby. Never use in any location where gases can accumulate. Combustion or explosion could occur.
Handle the power cord, plug, and electrical outlet correctly and with care. Never use any article that is damaged. Using a damaged article may result in fire or electrical shock.
When using an extension cord or power strip, use one that adequately satisfies the machine’s ratings (for voltage, frequency, and current). Use of multiple electrical loads on a single electrical outlet or of a lengthy extension cord may cause fire.

WARNING
Position so that the power plug is within immediate reach at all times. This is to enable quick disconnection of the power plug in the event of an emergency. Install the machine next to an electrical outlet. Also, provide enough empty space to allow immediate access to the electrical outlet.
For accessories (optional and consumable items, power cord, and the like), use only genuine articles compatible with this machine. Incompatible items may lead to an accident.
Do not use the supplied power cord for other products.
If the machine will not be used for a long period, disconnect the power cord. This prevents an accident caused by unexpected electric leakage or unintentional start of the machine.
Connect to ground. This can prevent fire or electrical shock due to current leakage in the event of malfunction.
Never use the machine for any purpose for which it is not intended, or use the machine in an excessive manner that exceeds its capacity. Doing so may result in injury or fire.

Never place an ink container (such as a cartridge or pouch) in fire. Ink may flow out, catch fire, and spread fire to other nearby objects.

WARNING
Never drink or sniff ink, cleaning liquid, or discharged fluid, or allow them to come in contact with the eyes or skin. Doing so may be hazardous to your health.

Ensure adequate ventilation for the work area. Failing to perform ventilation may result in a health hazard or danger of combustion due to ink fumes.
Never allow an ink container (such as a cartridge or pouch) to be subjected to impact, and never attempt to disassemble. Ink may leak.

In the event of ingestion or physical distress
· In the event of contact with the eyes, immediately flush with water for at least 15 minutes. If eye irritation continues, seek treatment by a physician.
· In the event of contact with skin, immediately wash with soap. If irritation or inflammation occurs, seek treatment by a physician.
· In the event of ingestion, do not induce vomiting, and immediately seek treatment by a physician. Forcibly inducing vomiting may lead to danger of choking.
· If odor leads to physical distress, move to a well-ventilated location and rest quietly. If dizziness or nausea persists, seek treatment by a physician.

  • Refer to the appropriate safety data sheet (SDS) for the chemical substances used in the ink and the safety related to those substances.

Danger of fire, burns, or toxic gas emissions

WARNING
Caution: High Temperature The area around the UV-LED device becomes hot. Exercise caution to avoid burns.

CAUTION
Remove the object to be printed on or switch off the sub power when printing is not being performed. The continued application of heat at a single location may cause fire or produce toxic gases.

This machine uses ultraviolet light
CAUTION
Never look at the blue-white (ultraviolet) light emitted from the print-head area for an extended time. Looking directly at the ultraviolet light from up close for an extended period may result in eye injury.
Caution: Ultraviolet Light This machine is fitted with covers to keep external leakage of ultraviolet light at low levels, but incorrect handling or operation can lead to physical injury due to ultraviolet light. The extent of injury depends on the intensity and wavelength of the ultraviolet light, and the length of time of exposure. Prolonged exposure to strong ultraviolet light of hazardous wavelengths can cause injury to the eyes or skin. Exercise caution.

Warning Labels
Warning labels are affixed to the machine to make areas of danger immediately clear. The meanings of these labels are as follows. Be sure to heed their warnings. Also, never remove the labels or allow them to become dirty.
Caution: Ultraviolet Light When the cover is open, check that the UV lamp is off. Caution: Pinching Hazard Be careful not to allow the fingers to become pinched when closing covers. Caution: Moving Print Heads The print heads inside the cover move at high speed and pose a hazard. Never insert your hands or fingers into the gap.

Caution: High Voltage Removing the cover may result in high-voltage electric shock.

Ink, cleaning fluid, and discharged fluid are flammable and toxic. If these fluids come into contact with the eyes or skin, it may be hazardous to the health. When performing maintenance work, for example when disposing of discharged fluid, wear protective eyewear and protective gloves (refer to the safety data sheet [SDS]). Caution: High Temperature Certain areas become hot. Exercise caution to avoid burns.
Caution: Pinching Hazard Hands or fingers may be pinched or become caught in certain areas. Use care when performing operations.

Une utilisation incorrecte peut causer des blessures

ATTENTION
Toujours débrancher le câble d’alimentation lors de la fixation ou du retrait de pièces et de pièces en option et du nettoyage ou des travaux d’entretien qui n’exigent pas un branchement de l’appareil à une source d’alimentation. Deciding On an Installation Site

Install the machine in a quiet, stable location offering good operating conditions. An unsuitable location can cause accidents, fire, faulty operation, or breakdown.

CAUTION

Install the machine in a location that is level, stable, and able to bear the weight of the machine. The total weight of the machine may reach over 155 kg (341.7 lb.). Installation in an unsuitable location may cause a major accident, including tip over, fall, or collapse.
Never install the machine outside or in any location where exposure to water or high humidity may occur. Current leakage may cause electrical shock or fire.
Never install the machine close to any flammable object or in a gas-filled location. Combustion or explosion could occur.
Install the machine in a clean, brightly lit location. Working in a location that is dark or cluttered may lead to an accident, such as becoming caught in the machine as the result of an inadvertent stumble.
Position the machine so that the power plug is within immediate reach at all times. This is to enable quick disconnection of the power plug in the event of an emergency. Install the machine next to an electrical outlet. Also, provide enough empty space to allow immediate access to the electrical outlet.
Ensure adequate ventilation for the work area. Failing to perform ventilation may result in a health hazard or danger of combustion due to ink fumes.

Setting Up the Machine

Step 1: Removing the Retainers

Retainers are attached to the machine to protect it from vibration during transportation. When installation is complete, remove these.

WARNING

Carry out these operations before you connect the power cord. Inadvertent powerup may result in pinched hands or other injury.

IMPORTANT
· Make sure to remove all the retainers. Any that remain may cause faulty operation or breakdown when the power is switched on.
· Store the retainers carefully because they are needed again when transporting the machine. · For transportation of this machine, contact your authorized Roland DG Corporation dealer.
Procedure
A Open the front cover.

IMPORTANT
Be sure to hold the handle of the front cover and keep holding it until the cover is completely opened or closed. If you do not open and close the front cover gently, it may break or you may be injured.

B Open the panel cover and the maintenance cover.
Remove the screw on the top of the panel cover (or the maintenance cover), tilt the panel cover (or the
maintenance cover) forward slightly, and then pull out this cover in the direction indicated by the arrow.

A Remove the retaining tape.
B Install the drain bottle.

3 When the drain bottle reaches the wall, remove your hand.

Step 5: Ink Filling
Firstly, clean the print heads with cleaning liquid when installing ink cartridges for the first time after shipment from the factory. After cleaning, fill the machine with the ink of each color. The on-screen messages indicate which ink cartridges to insert and remove and when to insert and remove them. Follow the instructions given in P. 33 “2. Clean the print heads using the SOL INK cleaning cartridges.” and P. 37 “4. Insert the ink cartridge for each color.”.
Items Used in this Procedure

· Be sure to insert cartridges horizontally. Otherwise, cleaning and filling may not be performed properly.

· When you remove the drain bottle, a few drops of discharged fluid may come out of the machine. Exercise caution to prevent this fluid from soiling your hands.
I Wipe away any discharged fluid that has dripped onto the outside of the drain bottle. J Quickly attach the emptied drain bottle to the machine once more. K Close the panel cover.

3. Attach the ink cartridges (only when installing 500 ml cartridges).
IMPORTANT When using 500 ml cartridges, be sure to attach the ink-cartridge tray. 500 ml cartridges protrude approximately 30 cm (11.8 in.) from the side of the machine. Running into the ink cartridges may lead to injury or to machine malfunctions.
A Temporarily tighten the screws (for the ink-cartridge tray) in two locations on the top of the machine. Make a space between the screw heads and the machine of approximately 1 cm (0.4 in.).
B Slide the ink-cartridge tray onto the screws from the right side of the screws, and then catch the left and right notches of the tray onto the screws.

C Temporarily tighten the screws in the two bottom locations.

The precipitation of the ingredients in the ink disables printing in normal color. So that the ink mixes well, shake the ink cartridge horizontally with a stroke length of around 5 cm (2 in.) from each end of the ink cartridge.

Connecting to the Computer
Introduction
Make sure the machine is connected to the network by an Ethernet cable. The network settings on the machine must be made manually, using the operation panel. For information about how to make the settings, refer to P. 41 “Step 2: Make the Network Settings on the Printer” later in this step. Also, to perform printing from this machine, the software RIP included with the machine must be installed on the computer you are using. For information about installation and setup, refer to the documentation for the software RIP.
This machine has a built-in print server as a network interface. When you use the print server, you can send print data to the machine from anywhere on the network. TCP/IP is used as the protocol.
IMPORTANT The examples used in the procedures for making the settings described in this section assume you are using one computer and one machine. The procedures and setting values described here may not be suitable for all operating environments. If the computer you are using is connected to a number of networked devices or to the Internet, incorrect settings may adversely affect the entire network. For detailed information about the settings, consult your network administrator.
