The distance should be 2ft between the remote, your fire tv stick /fire tv box while you are trying to pair them
restart the fire stick by unplugging the fire stick from the power source and plugging it back in.
After reboot, press and hold the home button for 10 seconds to a minute to pair, wait until a notification shows that the remote has been successfully paired on-screen, then release.
