800W RECIPROCATING SAW
3500014 – Instruction Manual
WARNING
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE
GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION.
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Please retain all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
INTENDED USE.
The intended use of this tool is described in this instruction manual. The use of any accessory or attachment or performance of any operation with this tool other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury and/or damage to property. This 9 Amp Reciprocating Saw is intended for domestic use only. Do not use for commercial purposes. This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for the their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the tool.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY.
Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plugin anyway. Do not
use any adaptor plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs
and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. Avoid body contact
with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
earthed or grounded. Do not expose power tools to rain r wet conditions. Water
entering the power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. Do not abuse
the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power
tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, and moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase risk of electric shock. When operating a
power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use to reduce
the risk of electric shock.
WORK AREA SAFETY.
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite
accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep bystanders, children and animals away while
operating the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
BEFORE USE.
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective
equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce the risk of personal
injury.
WARNING! Contact with, or inhalation of, dusts arising from cutting
applications may endanger the health of the operator and possible bystanders.
Wear a dust mask specifically designed for protection against dust and fumes
and ensure that persons within or entering the work area are also protected.
Always wear eye protection. Any power tool can throw foreign objects into your
eyes and cause permanent eye damage. Always wear safety goggles (not glasses)
that comply with ANSI safety standard Z87.1. Every day glasses have only
impact-resistant lenses. They are not safety glasses.
WARNING! Wearing glasses or goggles not in compliance with ANSI Z87.1 when operating this tool could cause serious injury. Dress appropriately. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts to prevent them from becoming caught in the tool. Secure your work piece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the work-piece as this is safer than using your hand and frees both hands to operate the tool. Make sure that there are no nails or foreign objects in the path of the work-piece to be cut or sanded. Never use dull blades in the tool. They will cut slower, leave rough cuts and break easily due to added pressure and excessive heat. They will also overload the motor and cause premature failure of the tool. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure that these are connected and properly used to reduce dustrelated hazards. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION FOR USE.
WARNING! Know your 9 Amp Reciprocating Saw. Do not plug the tool into the
power source until you have read and understand the information in this
manual. Learn the tool’s applications and limitations, as well as the specific
potential hazards related to this tool, in order to reduce the risk of
electric shock, fire or serious injury. Use the power tool, accessories and
tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the
working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for
operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous
situation.
WARNING! Use only accessories recommended for this oscillating tool.
Follow the instructions that accompany the accessories. The use of improper
accessories may result in injury to the operator or damage the tool.
WARNING! If any part is missing or damaged, do not plug the tool into the
power source or install any accessory until the missing or damaged part is
replaced. Failure to follow this instruction could result in serious personal
injury. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off
position before connecting to the power source and/or battery pack, picking up
or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch, or
energising power tools that are switched on invites accidents. Do not use the
power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. A power tool that cannot
be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Stay alert,
watch what you are doing,, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while perating power tools may
result in serious personal injury. Hold the power tool by the insulated
gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may
contact hidden wiring or its own cord. A cutting accessory contacting a “live”
wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the
operator an electric shock. Use clamps or another practical way to secure and
support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or
against your body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control. Keep
hands away from cutting area. Never reach underneath the work piece for any
reason. Do not insert your fingers or thumb into the vicinity of the
reciprocating blade and blade clamp. Do not stabilize the tool by gripping the
shoe. When cutting pipe or conduit, make sure that they are free from water,
electrical wiring, etc. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at
all times. This will enable better control of the power tool in unexpected
situations. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your
application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the
rate for which it was designed. The blade will continue to move after
releasing the switch. Always switch the tool off and wait for the saw blade to
come to a complete standstill before putting the tool down. Do not touch the
work-piece or the blade immediately after operating the tool. They can become
very hot.
VIBRATION.
The declared vibration emission values stated in the technical data and the
declaration of conformity have been measured in accordance with a standard
test method provided by EN 60745 and may be used for comparing one tool with
another. The declared vibration emission value may also be used in a
preliminary assessment of exposure.
WARNING! The vibration emission value during actual use of the power tool
can differ from the declared value depending on the ways in which the tool is
used. The vibration level may increase above the level stated. When assessing
vibration exposure to determine safety measures required by 2002/44/ EC to
protect persons regularly using power tools in employment, an estimation of
vibration exposure should consider the actual conditions of use and the way in
which the tool is used, including taking account of all parts of the operating
cycle such as the times when the tool is switched off and when it is running
idle in addition to the trigger time.
MAINTENANCE & STORAGE.
Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery back from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing. Such preventative safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. Maintain the power tool. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Keep blades sharp. Dull or damaged blades may cause the saw to swerve or stall under pressure. Always use the appropriate type of saw blade for the work-piece material and type of cut. Store idle power tools out of reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
SERVICE.
Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using identical
replacement parts only to ensure that the safety of the power tool is
maintained.

FITTING/REMOVING A SAW BLADE
CAUTION: Always ensure that the tool is powered off and disconnected from the mains before performing any adjustments or maintenance.
WARNING! Always wear protective gloves when handling blades.
CAUTION Do not use worn or damaged saw blades as this can cause injury to
the user and/or damage to the tool.
IMPORTANT Ensure you use the correct type of saw blade, specific to the
material to be cut.
To insert a blade, firstly rotate the Chuck Collar (2) in an anticlockwise
direction. This will retract the pin and allow the required Saw Blade to be
inserted.
Take the saw blade and insert into the centre of the Chuck Collar (2). Ensure
the teeth are facing in the correct direction before sliding the blade into
the slot on the Chuck Collar as far in as possible.
Release the Chuck Collar (2) to secure, and check that the blade is in place.
To remove a worn/damage blade, follow the above steps in reverse.
WARNING! Do not remove the blade immediately after the cutting; the blade may be very hot.
ADJUSTING THE SHOE PLATE
CAUTION: Always ensure that the tool is powered off and disconnected from
the mains before performing any adjustments or maintenance.
The Shoe Plate (1) slides in and out to adjust the effective stroke length for
maximum control and longer blade life.
Loosen the two Hexagonal Shoe Adjustment Screws (7) with the Hex Key (8)
provided.
Pull the Shoe Plate (1) to the desired position, and re-tighten the Hexagonal
Socket Screws with the Hex Key (8) provided.
OPERATION
WARNING! Always make sure that you wear adequate safety equipment when using the tool.
IMPORTANT Always wear eye protection while operating this power tool.
CAUTION Before attempting to cut any wooden work-piece, first ensure that the
material is free from any foreign objects, screws or nails. IMPORTANT Ensure
that the blade is suitable for the material to be cut, and never use blunt or
damaged blades.
Ensure the work-piece (A) to be cut has been safely secured into position with
the appropriate clamps, then connect the tool to the mains power supply.
Hold the tool securely with one hand on the Handle and the other on the Barrel
Grip (3), making sure that the tool is not in contact with the work- piece
before starting it up.
Squeeze the On/Off Trigger (5) to power on the Saw, and allow the Blade to
reach full speed before cutting the material.
NOTE The On/Off Trigger (5) is pressure-sensitive in order to adjust the
speed of the cut. Always adjust the speed using the Variable Speed Dial (6)
according to the material being cut.
NOTE When using the tool for a particularity long cut, or for extended
periods of time, use of the Lock-On Button (4) may be required. For continuous
operation, activate the On/Off Trigger (5), then push in the Lock-On Button
(4); the tool will now run on maximum speed without the need to keep hold of
the On/Off Trigger (5). To release the Lock-On Button (4), squeeze the On/Off
Trigger (5) fully.
WARNING! When sawing into walls, floors or where “live” electrical wires may be encountered, always hold the tool by the plastic Handle and Housing to prevent electric shock if you saw into a live wire.
WARNING Always ensure the work-piece has been safely secured into position with the appropriate clamps before switching on and using the saw.
**NEVER** under any circumstance, hold the work-piece by hand as a means of securing it whilst cutting. This may cause serious personal injury and damage to the tool.
MAKING CUTS
PLUNGE CUTTING
WARNING! Plunge cutting is an advanced technique with a higher risk. Only
more competent and experienced users should use this method of cutting.
WARNING! Only attempt this method on softer materials such as wood,
plasterboard, or similar.
WARNING! Inspect both sides of the material to be plunge cut for foreign
objects on the underneath, or objects that could be damaged, and be aware of
hidden pipework or power cables. If plunge cutting into drywalls, ensure that
all electrical supply has been isolated and switched off and that water and
gas supplies have been shut off.
Mark the line ready for the cut.
Choose a point inside the area to be cut and place the tip of the blade over
that point. Rest the front edge of the workpiece so that the blade does not
make contact with the workpiece surface. Hold the tool securely with one hand
on the Handle and the other on the Barrel Grip (3), making sure that you have
full control at all times. Squeeze the On/Off Trigger(5) fully for maximum
speed, and allow the blade to come to full speed.
Squeeze the On/Off Trigger (5) fully for maximum speed, and allow the blade to
come to full speed.
Slowly lower the blade until it makes contact with the workpiece and continue
to cut slowly until the blade has fully penetrated the thickness of the work-
piece.
METAL CUTTING
NOTE This 800W Reciprocating Saw is suitable for cutting such materials
as sheet steel, pipe, steel rods, aluminium, brass, and copper.
IMPORTANT Ensure you have the correct blade fitted to cut the material.
CAUTION Take care not to bend or twist the blade and do not force cut.
Always use a suitable cutting fluid when sawing soft metals and steel; this
will ensure that the blade keeps cool and help to prolong the life of the
blade to achieve a more efficient cut. Make sure that the workpiece is firmly
clamped into place to minimise vibration. When cutting angle iron or conduit
pipe, clamp the workpiece in a vice where possible, and cut as close to the
vice as possible. To cut thin sheet metal, clamp the sheet in between hardwood
or plywood to prevent vibration and tearing of the material.
MAINTENANCE
CAUTION Ensure the 800W Reciprocating Saw is disconnected from the mains
power supply before attempting any maintenance. Keep the tool’s ventilation
slots clean and free from obstructions. If available, blow compressed air into
the vents to clear any internal dust.
IMPORTANT Safety goggles must be worn when undertaking this task.
Keep the outer casing of the appliance clean and free from grease.
CAUTION Do not wash with water or use solvents or abrasives. Use only
mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the tool.
WARNING! Do not allow water or any other liquid to enter the tool. Never immerse any part of the tool in a liquid for any reason.
Always store your appliance in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
