metabo PowerMaxx SSD Cordless Impact Driver

Specified Use

The cordless impact screwdriver is suitable for driving in and removing screws.
The user bears sole responsibility for damage caused by improper use.
Generally accepted accident prevention regulations and the enclosed safety information must be observed.

General Safety Instructions

**** For your own protection and for the protection of your electrical tool, pay attention to all parts of the text that are marked with this symbol!

WARNING – Reading the operating instructions will reduce the risk of injury.

WARNING Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow all safety warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Keep all safety instructions and information for future reference.
Pass on your electrical tool only together with these documents.

Special Safety Instructions

Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

Remove the battery pack from the machine before any adjustment or maintenance is carried out. Before fitting the battery pack, make sure that the machine is switched off.

Ensure that the spot where you wish to work is free of power cables, gas lines or water pipes
(e.g. using a metal detector).

 Protect battery packs from water and moisture!
Do not expose battery packs to naked flame!
 Do not use faulty or deformed battery packs! Do not open battery packs!
Do not touch or short-circuit battery packs!

Slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-ion battery packs!

If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical treatment immediately.

Only screw driving bits suitable for the impact screwdriver must be used.
Take care when driving in long screws – risk of slipping.
Mount the machine on the screw only when it is switched off.

Wear ear protectors. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
Materials that generate dusts or vapours that may be harmful to health (e.g. asbestos) must not be processed.
LED (3): Do not view LEDs directly through optical instruments, LED class 1M, classified as per DIN EN 60825-1: 2003, wavelength: 400-780 nm;
t imp=300 µs, 5 lm.

Overview

Product Overview

  1. Hexagon socket attachment for hexagon screw driving bits

  2. Locking sleeve

  3. LED light
    For working on dimly lit areas. The LED lights light up when the machine is switched on.

  4. Rotational direction switch / Transporting safety device

  5. Trigger

  6. Button for battery pack release

  7. Battery pack

Initial Operation/Setting

****Remove the battery pack from the machine before any adjustment or maintenance is carried out. Before fitting the battery pack, make sure that the machine is switched off.

The machine’s multi functional monitoring system

**** If the machine switches off automatically, the machine electronics have activated automatic protection mode. A warning signal sounds (continuous beeping). The beeping stops after a maximum of 30 seconds or when the trigger is released (5).

Causes and remedies:

  1. Battery pack almost flat (the electronics prevent the battery pack from discharging totally and avoid irreparable damage).
    If the battery pack is almost flat, it must be recharged.

  2. Long continuous overloading of the machine will activate the temperature cut-out.
    Leave the machine or battery pack to cool.
    Note: The machine will cool more quickly if you operate it at idling speed.

Battery pack

Charge the battery pack before use.
If performance diminishes, recharge the battery pack.

Removing the battery pack
Press the battery pack release button (6) and remove the battery pack (7).

To fit
Slide in the battery pack (7) until it engages.

Setting the direction of rotation, engaging the transporting safety device
(switch-on lock)

Do not actuate the rotation selector switch or engage the transportation lock (4) unless the motor has stopped completely!
Actuate the rotational direction switch /Engage the transportation lock (4)

R = Right rotation set
(insert screws)
L = Left rotation set
(remove screws)
0 = Central position: transportation lock setting
(switch-on lock)

Switching on and off

To switch on: press the trigger switch (5).
Switching off: Release the trigger (5).

Speed / Tightening torque

The speed and tightening torque are connected directly. The lower the speed, the lower the tightening torque.

Stepless adjustment of the tightening torque:
The speed and tightening torque can be adjusted  sleeplessly by pressing the trigger (5) firmly or lightly,thus adapting to working conditions.

Recommendation: determine the correct setting by carrying out trial screw driving.

Changing screwdriver bit

Inserting screw driving bit: Slide locking sleeve (2) forward and insert screw driving bit as far as the stop. Release locking sleeve (2).

****Pull on the screwdriver bit to check that it is correctly seated.

Removing screw driving bit: Slide locking sleeve (2) forward and remove screw driving bit.

****  Only use screw driving bits with such plug-in ends:

The screw driving bit used must match the screw.
Damaged screw driving bits must not be used.

Use

Mount the machine on the screw, ensuring it is aligned straight.
The screw driving process has two elements: inserting the screw and
tightening the screw with the percussion mechanism.
The tightening torque depends on the impact duration.

With an impact duration of approx. 5 seconds, the maximum tightening torque has been reached.
The torque curve depends on the type of application:
With a hard screw driving application (screw couplings in hard material such as metal), maximum tightening torque is already reached after a short impact duration (a).
With a soft screw driving application (screw couplings in soft material such as wood), a longer impact duration (b) is required.
Recommendation: determine the correct impact duration by carrying out trial screw driving.

Caution! With small screws , maximum torque can be reached even below an impact duration of 0.5 seconds.

  • This is why the duration of the screw driving process must be monitored exactly.
  • Adjust the tightening torque by pressing firmly or lightly on the trigger (5), ensuring that the screw is not damaged or that the screw head does not tear off.

Environmental Protection

Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories.

Battery packs must not be disposed of with regular waste. Return faulty or used battery packs to your Metabo dealer!
Do not allow battery packs to come into contact with water.

Only for EU countries: Never dispose of power tools in your household waste! In accordance with European Guideline 2002/ 96/EC on used electronic and electric equipment and its implementation in national legal systems, used power tools must be collected separately and handed in for environmentally compatible recycling. Before disposal, discharge the battery pack in the power tool. Prevent the contacts from shortcircuiting (e. g. by protecting them with adhesive tape).

Technical Specifications

Explanatory notes on the specifications on page 3.
Changes due to technological progress reserved.
U = Voltage of battery pack
n0 = No-load speed
s = Impact frequency
H = Machine tool attachment
m = weight (with smallest battery pack)
Mmax = Max. tightening torque

Vibration total value (vector sum of three directions) determined in accordance with EN 60745:

ah = Vibration emission value
(screw driving with impact)
Kh = Uncertainty (vibration)

The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in  accordance with a standardised test given in EN  60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It is also suitable for a provisional estimate of the vibratory load.

The specified vibration level applies to the main applications of the power tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This can considerably increase the vibratory load over the entire working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the  hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Typical A-effective perceived sound levels:
LpA = Sound pressure level
LWA = Acoustic power level
KpA, KWA= Uncertainty (noise level)

Wear ear protectors!

EN 60745.
