Make sure that the flat side of the microphone is aimed at your face. Then position the head of the microphone near the corner of your mouth no more than 1.5″ away. See the diagram for a graphical representation.
- If your Arctis microphone is picking up high background noise are your people are having a hard time hearing you, note that the Arctis line features a retractable bidirectional microphone that picks up sound in very narrow angles, which perfectly isolates one’s voice and eliminates all background noise.
- To achieve this level of clarity, the position of the mic in relation to the gamer’s mouth is extremely important.

My microphone is too quiet on my PC
When users have an issue with the Arctis ClearCast mic it’s most often due to poor positioning.
The microphone is highly directional, so it must be placed properly to achieve the best sound quality and maximize the noise cancellation.
First, make sure that the flat side of the microphone is aimed at your face. Then position the head of the microphone near the corner of your mouth no more than 1.5″ away. See the diagram for a graphical representation.
c. MICROPHONE
Position the microphone close to the corner of your mouth with the flat surface facing you
Once you have the mic positioned correctly use the mic level adjustment in SteelSeries Engine to dial in the appropriate volume.
Another solution is to make sure you are using the correct Default Format on your PC:
- Go to “Sound” in your PC’s Control Panel
- Under the “Recording” tab, right-click the microphone you are using, & select “Properties”
- Under the “Advanced” tab, make sure the Default Format is set to 48000 Hz
_
Lastly, your Windows settings can be limiting your mic level.
Please follow these steps:
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording > Double-Click SteelSeries Headset > Levels > Set to 100 (If yours looks different than the screenshot, select View by: Category. *Yellow box)
Analog headset product support for SSE
Many of our SteelSeries gaming headsets feature an analog connection, which means that they connect to your gaming rig with a single 4-pole 3.5mm connector or two 3 pole 3.5 mm connectors. This allows you to connect your headset to devices with a headphone jack that may otherwise not support USB connections.
However, SteelSeries Engine is unable to configure your device while in this configuration. If your headset is supported by Engine, please connect your headset via USB to configure the device. For more information, please read this article: USB product support for SSE.

My microphone (mic) is not working / being detected in Windows 10
Please make sure that your mic is set up to “ Let apps use my microphone ” under the Windows 10 privacy settings for the microphone.
My Arctis 3 does not show up in Engine
Arctis 3 no longer compatible with Engine and does not come with a SteelSeries Engine registration code.
Due to advancements in Windows 10 which provide every Windows user with optional headphone surround sound functionality, we have discontinued Arctis 3 support in SteelSeries Engine. Using two separate digital sound processing technologies concurrently is ill-advised and leads to serious distortion and degradation.
Due to a number of our valued customers experiencing issues using both SteelSeries Engine and Windows surround technologies, we’ve decided to pursue the simple route, and advise users to use the built-in Windows version.
To activate surround functionality with Arctis 3:
-
Right-click the Windows Speaker Icon in the bottom right of your screen (you may need to expand the toolbar to see it).
-
As pictured below, navigate to Spatial Sound, and select Windows Sonic for Headphones
My Arctis 9X / Arctis 9 / Arctis 7 will not turn on
If your Arctis 7 or Arctis 9X fails to turn on, first check to make sure the USB port you are using is supplying enough power to charge the headset and that the charging cable is not damaged.
- The best way to do this is to attempt to charge a different device, such as a phone, using the same cable and port.
- Once you confirm the cable and port to work, plug in the headset and perform a reset:
Arctis 7:
- There is a hardware reset switch under the cushion on the left ear cup (side with the mic). It is a pinhole so it will require a paperclip or pin to press. Press it and hold it down for ~1 second.
Arctis 9 / 9X:
- There is a hardware reset switch under the cushion on the ear cup without the mic. It is a pinhole so it will require a paperclip or pin to press. A photo is included below. Press it and hold it down for ~1 second.
