LAY OUT CUSTOM DOVETAILS

Dovetail Designer features three (3) dovetail sizes: 1”, 1-1/2”, and 2” wide. Center lines on each dovetail size assures accurate alignment on gasket material.
LAY OUT CUSTOM DOVETAILS

On piece of paper, lay out outer diameter (OD), inner diameter (ID) and pitch circle diameter (PCD).
Locate bolt hole locations. Position template over flat wooden surface or cutting board.

Cut multiple arcs of gasket material with desired OD and ID. Number of required arcs need to be greater than 360 degrees plus additional material for overlap.

Note cutting height of selected dovetail on Dovetail Designer. Lay arcs on top of template, overlapping by at least height of selected dovetail.

Position overlaps away from bolt-hole locations. As overlaps are made, tape down arcs to template on either side of overlap.

Center Dovetail Designer on overlapping gasket material and outline with pencil or awl. Cut along outline with utility knife. Top and bottom gasket materials will now have mating dovetails.

Tape dovetail joints together for easy handling.

If arcs are significantly wider than single dovetail, consider multiple side-by-side dovetails per joint.

Alternatively, use Dovetail Punches to cut dovetails. See instructions for DOVETAIL PUNCHES
