Mounting
The device may be placed on the floor or fastened to a truss or similar rigging structure via two clamps on the underside. The device must never be fixed swinging freely in the room.

  • The rigging structure must support at least 10 times the weight of all fixtures to be installed on it.
  • Block access below the work area and work from a stable platform when installing the device.
  • Use rigging hardware that is compatible with the structure and capable of bearing the weight of the device. Please refer to the “Accessories” section for a list of suitable rigging hardware.
  • Secure the device with a safety bond or other secondary attachment. This secondary safety attachment must be sufficiently dimensioned in accordance with the latest industrial safety regulations and constructed in a way that no part of the installation can fall down if the main attachment fails. Use the hole in the bracket for fixation of the safety rope. Fasten the safety rope in such a way that, in the event of a fall, the maximum drop distance of the device will not exceed 20 cm.
  • After installation, the device requires inspections periodically to prevent the possibility of rot, deformation and looseness.

CONNECTIONS

LED lamps
Connect your loads to the safety sockets. It is possible to connect all types of dimmable LED light sources which work with an operating voltage of AC 230 V. The maximum load is 200 watts per channel.

DMX512 controller
A DMX512 data link is required in order to control the device via DMX. The device provides 3-pin XLR connectors for DMX connection.

  1. Connect the output of your DMX controller to the DMX input DMX IN of the device with a DMX cable.
  2. Connect the DMX output DMX OUT of the device to the DMX input of the next unit in the chain. Always connect one output to the input of the next unit until all units are connected.
  3. At the last unit, the DMX cable has to be terminated. Plug the terminator with a 120 Ω resistor between Signal (–) and Signal (+) in the DMX output of the last unit.
  4. If the cable length exceeds 300 m or the number of DMX devices is greater than 32, it is recommended to insert a DMX level amplifier to ensure proper data transmission.

QuickDMX wireless receiver
The device features an alternative DMX input for a QuickDMX receiver (sold separately). This connector allows for wireless transmission of DMX control signals to the device. The connector is designed as a USB port which provides the required 5 V operating voltage for the receiver. With QuickDMX devices, extensive cabling between the DMX controller and the device is not required.

Connection to the power supply
Connect the mains cable provided to the corresponding input on the device and to a mains socket. Thus the device is powered on. To switch off the device and after the operation, disconnect the mains plug of the power adapter from the socket. The mains output allows for several devices to be interconnected and simplifies wiring in general

OPERATION

When connected to the mains, the device is switched on and ready for operation. You can configure it using the display and the control buttons. It can be controlled by DMX signal and wirelessly by QuickDMX signal from a lighting control panel. For operation without a control unit, the device has sliders for brightness adjustment and a chaser function with 16 programs that run automatically or are music controlled. To switch off the device, pull the mains plug.

Separate addressing of the dimmer channels

  • Go to menu item Run Mode > Person and select the option ind 4CH.
  • Call menu item Addr 1 and set the DMX start address for dimmer channel 1.
  • In the menu items Addr 2-4, set the DMX start addresses for the remaining dimmer channels.
  • Each dimmer channel of the EDX-4 can now be controlled separately with the DMX controller.

Select DMX failure mode

  • Call menu item DMX Fail and choose between the settings Blackout and Hold.
  • In the Blackout setting the connected LED lamps are switched off when no DMX input signal is present.
  • In the Hold setting, the last valid DMX value is held when no DMX input signal is present.

OPERATION WIHTOUT DMX CONTROLLER

The EDX-4 can also be operated without an external DMX controller. The only requirement is that the DMX controller or the QuickDMX receiver is not connected to the EDX-4.

Set dimmer values manually
The dimmer values can be entered with the control buttons and the sliders.

  • Call up the menu item Run Mode and select the Manual mode.
  • In the submenu items CH1-4 you can now use the buttons ▲ and ▼ to set the desired brightness for the individual dimmer channels continuously in the range of 0-255. The display shows the current value.
  • For better ease of use, use the sliders to control the brightness.

Automatic mode
In the “Auto” operating mode, 16 chaser programs are available, which run at an adjustable speed.

  • Call up the menu item Run Mode and select the Auto operating mode.
  • Select the desired program 1-16 in the Prog submenu using the buttons ▲ and ▼.
  • Under Speed, set the running speed of the program from 1 (fast) to 16 (slow).

Music control
In the “Music” mode the EDX-4 can reproduce the chaser programs to the rhythm of the music (with a clear bass beat) by means of the integrated microphone.

  • Call up the Run Mode menu item and select the Music mode.
  • In the submenu you can adjust the microphone sensitivity to the volume of the music. If the volume is too low or the bass beat is missing, the connected LED lamps are switched off.

SWITCH MODE

The dimmer channels of the EDX-4 operate in dimmer or switch mode depending on the settings. You can configure the setting for each channel separately.

  • Call up menu item Switch and select the desired channel CH1-4 in the submenu.
  • Then select the YES setting to switch to switch mode.
  • Switching the load on and off is now done with the corresponding slider. If the slider sets a brightness level below 50%, the load is switched off. Above a value of 50%, the load is switched on.
  • If DMX control is selected, the load is switched off between DMX values 0-127 and switched on between 128-255.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

The outside of the device should be cleaned periodically to remove contaminants such as dust etc.

  1. Disconnect the device from power and allow it to cool before cleaning.
  2. Clean the surface with a soft lint-free and moistened cloth. Never use alcohol or solvents as these may damage the surface. Make sure that no liquids can enter the device.
