Target group

Target group The electrical installation and setup of the device must be performed by a qualified electrician who has demonstrated skill and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installations, and who is familiar with the applicable regulations of the country in which the equipment is to be installed and/or used, and has received safety training to identify and avoid the hazards involved.

All other actions are intended also for non-professional users.

Intended use

The device is intended to simulate the D+ signal in vehicles where is no longer possible to pick up from the alternator, for example Euro-6 vehicles.

This product is only suitable for the intended purpose and application in accordance with these instructions.

This manual provides information that is necessary for proper installation and/or operation of the product. Poor installation and/or improper operating or maintenance will result in unsatisfactory performance and a possible failure.

The manufacturer accepts no liability for any injury or damage to the product resulting from:

  • Incorrect assembly or connection, including excess voltage
  • Incorrect maintenance or use of spare parts other than original spare parts provided by the manufacturer
  • Alterations to the product without express permission from the manufacturer
  • Use for purposes other than those described in this manual
Dometic reserves the right to change product appearance and product specifications.

Technical description

The D+ signal is necessary to activate various additional devices (e.g. battery separator relay, AES refrigerator, charging booster). The device is triggered by the engine vibration. When the engine stops, the switching output turns off automatically.

Functions:

  • Switching output (D+ signal) overload protected and short circuit proof (max 0.3 A)
  • Switch on delay 4 s
  • Adjustable switch off delay
  • Voltage detection
  • Suitable for 12 V or 24 V system

Installing the device

Explanation of symbolsWARNING! Electrocution hazard
The installation may only be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The device is attached directly to the engine with cable ties and triggered by the engine vibration.

Mounting the device

  • Install the D+ Active Simulator with cable ties on a suitable place (for example: wiring harness, rubber tubes and pipes) which are close to the engine, but far enough from the hot engine (fig.1).
    Mounting the device

NOTICE! Damage hazard

  • The installation must not affect the operation of the engine.
  • The vehicle manufacturer’s specifications must be observed.
  • Do not install the device on any metal engine parts.

Connecting the device

  • Connect the device as illustrated (fig.3).
    Connecting the device

NOTICE! Damage hazard

  • Make sure the cables cannot touch any part with temperature over 100°C.
  • Attach the cables without any tensile force.

Setting up the device

Device element
(fig.2) Description
1 Status LED
2 Rotary switch

Device element

After the device is connected, it is automatically detected the operational voltage (12 V or 24 V). Meanwhile, the LED blinking red and green alternately. When the LED blinking only red, the device is ready to use.

Switch-off delay settings

The switch-off delay specifies how long the D+ signal is maintained after switching the engine off.

NOTE
If the switch-off delay is selected appropriately, the D+ signal can be prevented from being unintentionally switched off on vehicles with an automatic start-stop system.

To set the required switch-off delay, turn the rotary switch to the corresponding position (fig.2).

Position Switch-off delay
1 Setup
2 No function
3 10 s
4 15 s
5 30 s
6 60 s (Factory default)
7 90 s
8 2 min
9 3.5 min
10 5 min
11 No function
Voltage detection setting

When the voltage detection is active (factory default) the device is controlled by vibration and voltage. The D+ signal switches on when the engine is running and the starter battery voltage has reached at least 13.7 V (or 27.4 V) for min. 4 s. After the D+ signal switching on, the voltage may drop back below this threshold the device is controlled purely by vibration again.

  • To set the additional voltage detection, the rotary switch must be in the “Setup” position.
    • If the device is in setup mode, the LED is blinking yellow.
  • Turn the rotary switch quickly three times from the leftmost to the rightmost position and back to switch on or off the voltage detection.
    • If the LED is blinking green the voltage detection is turned on successfully.
    • If the LED is blinking red the voltage detection is turned off successfully.
  • Select the requested switch-off delay and the setup mode automatically exited.

NOTE
The device factory default settings are:

  • Voltage detection is active.
  • Switch-off delay is 60 s.

Using the device

The operating status is shown by different blinking cycles of the LED (fig.2).

LED Operating status
Blinking red Standby, D+ signal off
Blinking green D+ signal on
Blinking yellow Setup mode
Blinking three times red Voltage detection off
Blinking three times green Voltage detection on
Blinking red and green alternately Determining voltage range

Cleaning and maintenance

The device is maintenance-free.

Troubleshooting

Fault Possible cause Solution
The device is not working at all. Blown fuse. Replace the fuse.
Poor power supply contact. Clean battery terminals and the device wiring

contacts.
Wrong power supply polarity.| Connect the device properly.
No function, yellow LED blinking.| Setup mode is active.| Set the correct switch-off delay.
No D+ signal when the engine is running and red LED blinking.| Device is not mounted correctly.| See chapter “Installing the device” on page 9.
Voltage detection on and the battery voltage not reached the activation value.| Wait for the battery voltage reach the activation value or turn off the voltage detection.
No D+ signal when the engine is running and green LED blinking.| Output signal exceeded the 0.3 A load.| Remove the too high load from the output. Wait 5 min. to reset.
Device internal damaged.| Replace the device or send it in for repair.
