PHILCO PHSM 9000 Multi-Purpose Food Processor
Dear customer,
Thank you for buying a PHILCO brand product. So that your appliance serves you
well, please read all the instructions in this user’s manual.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ CAREFULLY AND STORE FOR FUTURE USE. Children must not use this appliance
or play with it. Keep this appliance and its power cord out of reach of
children. This appliance may be used by persons with physical or mental
impairments or by inexperienced persons, if they are properly supervised or
have been informed about how to use the product in a safe manner and
understand the potential dangers.
Make sure that all packaging material is out of reach of chil-dren, especially
plastic bags.
WARNING!
- Do not allow children to play with the packaging materi-als. This presents a risk of suffocation.
- Before connecting this appliance to a power socket, make sure the voltage stated on its rating label corresponds to the voltage in your power socket.
- Never use accessories, which have not been supplied with this appliance or which have not been explicitly recom-mended by the manufacturer.
- The appliance is intended and designed for processing a standard amount of food in the household.
- Do not use the appliance for any other purposes than those intended.
- Do not use the appliance in an industrial environment or outdoors.
- Do not place the appliance on window sills or on unstable surfaces. Only place the appliance on an even, dry and stable surface.
- Do not place the appliance on an electric or gas stove, in the vicinity of an open fl ame or appliances that are sources of heat. Ensure that the power plug contacts do not come into con-tact with water or moisture.
- Never use multiple attachments simultaneously.
- Do not wash the appliance (except for the removable parts) under running water and do not submerge it in water or any other liquid.
- Always turn off the appliance, disconnect it from the power socket when not be using it, when leaving it without super-vision, and before assembling, disassembling, cleaning or moving it. Prior to disassembling the appliance and replac-ing accessories or accessible parts that move during use, wait until all moving parts come to a stop.
- For safety reasons, this appliance is equipped with a safety mechanism that prevents the motor from being started if the appliance’s arm is tilted out.
- Before putting the appliance into operation, check that it is correctly assembled and that the arm is in the horizontal position.
- Allow hot liquids or food to cool down before mixing them. Do not attempt to grind bones, nut shells or other hard in-gredients.
- Do not leave the appliance in continuous operation under a heavy load for a period longer than 10 minutes. Before turning it on again, allow it to cool down for at least 30 min-utes.
- Do not tilt out the arm or put your hands or items, such as a kitchen knife, fork or wooden spoon, into the bowl while the appliance is running. Do not touch rotating parts of the appliance or attachments and ensure that foreign items such as clothing, hair, etc. are kept away. An injury could occur or the appliance could be damaged.
- If an item, such as a spoon, falls into the mixing bowl while the appliance is running, immediately set the speed control knob to position 0 (stand-by mode), disconnect the power cord from the power socket and take the item out of the bowl. If ingredients stick to the attachments or the inside of the bowl, turn off the appliance and disconnect it from the pow-er socket. Use a spatula to clean the attachments and the inside of the bowl. Then you can continue mixing.
- Never use your fi ngers or other items to push ingredients through the feed tube of the meat grinder or the slicing and grating attachment. For this purpose there is a pusher included as an accessory to this appliance.
- Do not turn the appliance on when empty. The incorrect use of the appliance may negatively affect its lifetime.
- Before storing the appliance, check that the stand arm is tilted to the horizontal position.
- Do not place heavy items on the power cord. Make sure the power cord does not hang over the edge of a table or that it does not touch a hot surface.
- Do not disconnect the appliance from the power socket by pulling on the power cord. This could damage the pow-er cord or the power socket. Disconnect the cord from the power socket by gently pulling the plug of the power cord. If the power cord is damaged, have it replaced at a techni-cal service centre. It is forbidden to use the appliance if it has a damaged power cord or plug.
- To avoid the danger of injury by electrical shock, do not repair the appliance yourself or make any adjustments to it. Have all repairs or adjustments of the appliance per-formed at an authorised service centre. By tampering with the appliance you risk voiding your legal rights arising from unsatisfactory performance or quality warranty.

OPERATION
Before using
Take the appliance out of the box, unpack it and remove all packaging
material. Make sure that you have un-packed all the accessories before
disposing of the box.
Check the appliance and all the accessories for damage.
Prior to using it, wipe the body of the appliance with a lightly dampened
sponge and then wipe dry. Carefully wash / wipe with a sponge dipped in warm
water with a small amount of kitchen detergent.
Food Processor

Place the bowl into the cut-out in the base of the food processor and turn the bowl clockwise until is fi rmly secured in place.

To lift up the motor head, press the safety mechanism (4) downwards in the direction of the arrow. You will be able to lift up the head.

Install the desired accessory by mounting it on the shaft, secure the pin in the shaft by turning to the right.

Now, place the ingredients into the bowl.
Do not overload the appliance – maximum amount of ingredients is 2 kg. -
Tilt the motor head down using the safety mechanism (4).

Connect the power plug to a properly grounded 230 V / 50 Hz power socket.
-
Start the appliance by turning the speed control dial to a speed of 1 to 6 (depending on the types of ingredients).

To select the PULSE function (kneading in short intervals), turn the control dial to the “PULSE” position. The control dial must be in this position only for the necessary time interval. As soon as the control dial is released, it automatically returns to position “0”.
THE SPEEDS AND ACCESSORIES ARE DESIGNED FOR NO MORE THAN A 2 KG MIXTURE.

NOTE:
Short operating time: When processing thick mixtures, do not run the appliance
for longer than 10 minutes, allow it to cool down for a further 10 minutes.
Use the protective bowl cover when processing liquid mixtures.
- Once the dough is formed, move the speed control dial (5) to position “0”. Then disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
- Push the safety mechanism (4) downwards and lift up the motor head.
- You may take the mixture out of the bowl using a spatula.
- To take the bowl off the base, turn the bowl to the left.
- Clean the accessories according to the instructions in chapter “Cleaning”.
Recommended recipes
Fine gugelhupf dough (basic recipe), speed 3-4
INGREDIENTS:
250 g of soft butter or margarine, 250 g of sugar, 1 packet of vanilla sugar,
a pinch of salt, 4 eggs, 500 g of fi ne fl our, 1 packet of baking powder,
approx. 1/8 l of milk.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Place the fine fl our and the remaining ingredients into a bowl, then using the
beater blade process for approx. 30 seconds at speed 1, then increase to speed
3 for approx. 3 minutes. Grease the mold and dust with fl our or line it with
parchment paper. Pour the fi finished mixture into the form and bake. Check
that the Gugelhupf is fully baked before taking it out of the oven. Insert a
skewer into the middle of the Gugelhupf. If no dough sticks to the skewer, the
Gugelhupf is baked. Turn off the oven and remove the mold, allowing it to cool
down.
STANDARD OVEN
Rack height: 2
Temperature: electric oven, top, and bottom element 175 °C – 200 °C; gas oven:
level 2-3
Baking time: 50-60 minutes
Depending on the taste, you can modify this recipe, e.g. add about 100 g of
raisins, 100 g of nuts or 100 g of chopped chocolate. There is an endless
number of possibilities.
Bread rolls with fl ax seed, speed 1-2
INGREDIENTS:
500 – 550 g of fi ne fl our, 50 g of fl ax seed, 3/8 l of water, 1 cube of yeast
(40 g), 100 g of low-fat cottage cheese, and 1 teaspoon of salt. For glazing:
2 tablespoons of water.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Soak the flax seeds in 1/8 l of lukewarm water. Pour the remaining water (1/4
l) into a bowl, add the yeast, add the cottage cheese, and process using the
kneading hook at speed 2. It is essential that the yeast is fully dissolved.
Add the fl our with the soaked fl ax seeds and salt into the bowl. Knead the
dough at speed 1, then switch to speed 2 and continue kneading for a further
3-5 minutes. Cover the mixture and allow it to rise in a warm place for
approx. 45-60 minutes. Knead the dough once more, remove it from the bowl and
create approx. 16 rolls. Line the baking tray with damp parchment paper. Place
the rolls on the baking tray and allow them to rest for 15 minutes. Drip with
lukewarm water and bake.
STANDARD OVEN
Rack height: 2
Temperature: electric oven, top, and bottom element 200 °C – 220 °C (preheated
about 5 minutes); gas oven: level 2-3
Baking time: 30-40 minutes
Chocolate cream, speed 5-6
INGREDIENTS:
200 ml of sweet cream, 150 g of dark chocolate icing, 3 eggs, 50-60 g of
sugar, a pinch of salt, 1 packet of vanilla sugar, 1 teaspoon of cognac or
rum, chocolate fl akes.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Whip the cream in the bowl using the whisk until the mixture is fi rm. Remove
from the bowl and place in the refrigerator to cool. Heat up the chocolate
icing according to the instructions on the package or in the microwave oven at
600 W for approx. 3 minutes. In the meantime, whip the eggs, sugar, vanilla
sugar, cognac or rum and salt in the bowl of the food processor using the
whisk at speed 3 to make a smooth foam. Add the heated chocolate and mix in
evenly at speed 5-6. Leave a little cream aside for decoration. Add the cream
into the mix-ture in the bowl and mix in quickly using the PULSE function.
Decorate the chocolate foam and serve cooled.
Meat grinder
Initial operation – general KB 5 min
- Remove the front cover from the appliance by pushing on the retaining lever (2).
- Push down the retaining lever (2) and install the grinding feed tube (10) on to the shaft.
- Install the hopper tray on to the feed tube of the meat grinder so that the tray is located under the arm.
- Push the screw shaft into the horizontal part of the grinding feed tube until the axle is secured in place. For more information see “Operating the meat grinder” and “Sausage stuffer attachment”.
Operating the meat grinder (see fi gure A)
NOTE:
Dice the meat into same-sized pieces of approx. 2.5 cm. Make sure that the
meat does not contain any meat or tendons.
- First, insert the blade onto the end of the shaft and then insert the disc as required. Make sure that the disc is seated and aligned with the cut-out in the grinding feed tube. Screw on the screw ring (14) until it is correctly secured.
- Place the diced meat on the tray (16) and into the grinding feed tube.
- Place a bowl under the mouth of the meat grinder.
- Ensure that the speed control dial (5) is in position “0”.
- Insert the power plug into a 230 V, 50 Hz power socket.
- Start the meat grinder by turning the speed control dial (5).
- If necessary, use the supplied pusher (17) to push the meat into the feed tube of the meat grinder. Do not use your fingers under any circumstances.
Using the sausage stuffer attachment (see figure B/C)
- Fit the adapter (15c) on to the end of the shaft.
- Fit the sausage stuffer attachment (15a or b). Attachment a is for thick sausages, attachment b is for thin sausages.
- Screw on the screw ring (14) until it is correctly secured.
- Slide the casing (either natural or synthetic) over the end tip of the attachment.
- Place the sausage mix on to the hopper tray and into the grinding feed tube.
- Repeat steps 4 to 7 as described in “Using the meat grinder”.
- The sausage mixture is pushed through the sausage stuffer attachment into the casing which is fi lled in this way.
- Once the fi rst sausage is made (it is suffi ciently long), squeeze it with your fi nger tips. Twist the sausage around its axis once or twice.
NOTE:
- Speeds 1 to 4 are suitable for the operation of the meat grinder.
- When processing thick mixtures, do not run the appliance for longer than 10 minutes, allow it to cool down for a further 10 minutes.
- Turn off the appliance after each sausage is made until you gain experience.
- Perform step 8 as described. Then turn on the meat grinder again.
- If you decide to use a natural casing, soak it in water before using it.
- Make sure that the sausage mixture in the casing is loose, as the casing could break when it is cooked or fried.
Using the cookie attachment (see fi gure D)
- Proceed according to steps 1 to 4 as described in part “Initial operation”.
- Screw out the cookie attachment and select the desired cookie shape.
- Place the cookie dough into the grinding feed tube.
- Ensure that the speed control dial (5) is in position “0”.
- Insert the power plug into a 230 V, 50 Hz power socket.
- Start the grinder by turning the speed control dial (5).
- If necessary, use the supplied pusher (17) to push the dough into the feed tube of the grinder. Do not insert hands into the feed tube.
- To catch the dough coming out of the cookie maker, place your hand underneath the mouth of the grinder
Vegetable slicer
Initial operation – general KB 5 min
- Remove the front cover from the appliance by pushing on the retaining lever (2).
- Push down the retaining lever (2) and install the slicing feed tube (20) on to the shaft.
- Select a grater [Fine grater (22a) / Coarse grater (22c) or Slicer (22b)]. Insert the grater into the grinding feed tube with the opening pointing forwards.
Using the vegetable slicer
- Ensure that the speed control dial (5) is in position “0”.
- Insert the power plug into a 230 V, 50 Hz power socket.
- Turn on the vegetable slicer and set the speed using the control dial (7) to 5-6.
- If necessary, use the included pusher (21). Do not insert hands into the feed tube.
Blender
Initial operation – general KB 3 min
- Remove the top cover (3b)
- Place the ingredients that you wish to blend into the blending beaker.
- Put on the lid and check that it is properly seated.
- Place the measuring cup (27) into the hole in the lid (28) and secure it in place by turning it clockwise.
- Place the blending beaker (29) into the cut-out, after removing the top cover, and turn the beaker clockwise until it is fi rmly secured in place.
- Install the food processor bowl (7) and the protective cover (30).
Using the blender
- Ensure that the speed control dial (5) is in position “0”.
- Insert the power plug into a 230 V, 50 Hz power socket.
- Turn on the blender and set the desired speed using the control dial (7).
- SPEED 5 for mixing liquids and light mixtures
- SPEED 6 for thicker consistencies – for mixing liquids and solid ingredients.
PULSE function for short and powerful use. (The control dial does not remain in the “Pulse” position. Hold the control dial in the “Pulse” position or turn it on repeatedly.
Useful tips:
- Risk of burns! Be careful when handling hot liquids.
- The hole for removing the measuring cup (27) is used for adding ingredients without needing to interrupt the operation of the blender. To do so, remove the stopper from the lid of the blender (28).
- If necessary, turn the blender off from time to time and remove ingredients that are stuck on the inner walls of the beaker.
- Turn off the appliance and disconnect the power plug from the power socket.
- Remove the measuring cup (27) and the lid of the blender (28).
- Remove the pieces stuck on the inner wall of the blending beaker (29) using a spatula.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE BLADES WITH THE SPATULA.
Juicer
WARNING:
Make sure that the blender cover is securely seated in its place before
starting to use the appliance.
- Check that the speed control dial is in position “0” and that the power cord is disconnected from the power socket.
- Remove the front cover from the appliance.
- Place the hopper tray on to the feed tube of the feed tube.
- Insert the screw shaft of the press into the feed tube. Place the strainer on to the screw shaft so that the nib in the bottom part is located in the bottom part of the feed tube. Make sure that the strainer is correctly located inside the feed tube.
- Install the gasket seal and secure in place using the screw ring.
- Place the juice spout on the cut-out in the bottom part of the feed tube.
- Remove the front cover from the appliance by pushing on the retaining lever (2) and install the juicer feed tube on to the shaft.
- Place bowls under the juice spout and the outlet in the screw ring.
- Turn on the food processor and use the speed control dial to set the speed to 5 – 6.
- Place ingredients into the feed tube one by one in small amounts.
- If necessary, use the included pusher. Do not insert hands into the feed tube.
CLEANING

Disconnect the power plug from the power socket before cleaning.
-
Never submerge the base unit of the food processor under water!
-
For cleaning, do not use solvents or aggressive cleaning agents or abrasive cleaning agents!
Base unit of the food processor with the motor -
Wipe the base unit of the food processor with a lightly dampened wiping cloth and wipe dry.
Bowl, food processor attachments and accessories of the meat grinder, vegetable
slicer and blender
CAUTION:
Attachments and accessories must not be washed in a dishwasher. If they are
exposed to high temperatures or chemical cleaning agents, they could deform or
discolour.
Wash accessories that come into contact with food in warm water with a small
amount of kitchen detergent.
WARNING:
The blades of the grinder, grater and blending beaker are very sharp! There is
a danger of injury!
- Make sure that the accessories are dry before reassembly.
- Once they are dry, coat the grinding discs with a small amount of vegetable oil.
Juicer
Wash accessories that came into contact with food in warm water with a small
amount of kitchen detergent.
Allow all parts to dry thoroughly before reassembly.
Once it is dry, coat the strainer with a small amount of vegetable oil.
