Guide Specifications for Precast Epoxy Terrazzo Treads, Risers, Base and Other Specified Precast Epoxy Terrazzo Products as well as Sika Tile Settings materials, grouting materials and accessories, including methods of installation for ceramic tile and dimension stone.
Section 09

Part 1 – General

1.1 Related Work Specifiied in Other Sections
Note: Delete non-applicable items
A. Installation of concrete substrate to receive terrazzo stairs.

D. Sufficient water, temporary heat and light, and adequate electric power suitable outlets connected and distributed use within 100 feet of any working space. Note: Ambient temperature should remain at 50 degrees Fahrenheit
E. Broom clean area to receive precast terrazzo of all loose chips, laitance, and all foreign matter.

1.2 Quality Assurance
A. NTMA Compliance: Comply with all recommendations and standards of the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association
B. Acceptable supplier
1. Materials furnished shall meet NTMA supplier specifications.
C. Installer Qualifiications
1. The installer shall be a contractor member of the NTMA and shall perform all work in accordance with NTMA standards.
2. If the installer is not a contractor member of the NTMA, the installer shall submit a list of completed projects of a similar magnitude and complexity for review.
D. Pre-installation conference: To be conducted prior to tile installation. Attendees include the GC, Tile Subcontractor, Sika Tile Representative. Topics to review: Dry times/cure times of all Sika Tile products including waterproof /anti-fracture membranes, patching, and leveling, thin set and grout. Also discuss protection of various steps of tile installation systems.

1.3 Submittals
A. Section 01330 – Submittal Procedures: Submittal Procedures
B. Shop drawings:
a. Submit shop drawings of all precast terrazzo items showing detailed sections and profile of all precast items.
b. Large scale details of precast terrazzo shall show jointing and edge conditions, anchorage details, and reinforcing and special hardware for fastening rails.
C. Samples:
a. Submit maximum of 3 samples, 6×6” in size, for each color identified, illustrating color, chip size and variation, chip gradation, and matrix color.
b. Submit two copies of NTMA maintenance literature or product maintenance literature from NMA associate member suppliers.
D. Certifiication:
a. Suppliers shall furnish certification attesting that materials meet specification requirements.

Delivery, Storage and Handling
A. Section 01600 – Product Requirements: Product storage and handling requirements
B. Delivery of materials:
a. Precast terrazzo materials shall be protected and palletized for delivery, and the manufacturer will identify the item, quantity and date.
C. Storage of materials:
a. Precast terrazzo must be stored indoors in a dry environment maintaining a minimum temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit and a maximum temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
D. Handling
a. Report any damage during shipment immediately upon delivery with picture proof.

1.5 Guarantee
A. One year from the date of substantial completion of terrazzo installation.

Part 2- Products

2.1 Manufacturers
A. Acceptable manufacturer:
a. Mondani Collection Precast Terrazzo

2.2 Products
A. Base: Epoxy matrix, precast of the same terrazzo as selected floor, specify height in inches, minimum floor thickness 3/8”. Straight or cover type with top profile.
B. Stair treads and risers: Epoxy matrix with desired number of abrasive strips, inlays, or insets at desired thickness.
C. Materials:
a. Epoxy matrix: Two component resin and epoxy hardener with mineral filler and color pigment, non-volatile, thermos-setting. Epoxy resin mixed according to manufacturer’s recommendation and tested without aggregate added. The product shall meet the following requirements:

The following contaminants used:

Distilled Water 1% Soap Solution
Mineral Water 10% Sodium Hydroxide
Isopropanol 10% Hydrochloric Acid
Ethanol 30% Sulfuric Acid
.025 Detergent Solution     5% Acetic Acid

b. Aggregate: Marble, glass, mother of pearl, metal chips, or a combination of indicated in percentages in screed sizes 0,1, and 2 of standard gradation and uniform color.
c. Sealer: Colorless, non-yellowing, penetrating liquid type to completely seal matrix surface, not detrimental to terrazzo components, biodegradable and phosphate free.
D. Terrazzo cleaners:
a. PH factor between 7 and 10, where applicable.
b. Biodegradable and phosphate free.

2.3 Manufactured Units
A. Shape and size exactly as indicated on drawings.
B. Reinforce precast with deformed rods or wire mesh or both if required.

IN THE ARTICLES BELOW, SELECT THE MATERIAL BASED ON THE PROJECT REQUIREMENTS.
DELETE ANY UNUSED MATERIALS.

2.5 LEVELING MATERIALS
A. Self-Leveling Underlayment Primer:
a. SikaTile® – 01 Primer Plus is a one-part, water dispersed, solvent free. Acrylic based solution used to prime and seal floor surfaces prior to the application of Sika Level products. Suitable for interior or exterior. Use with concrete, OSB, Plywood substrates.
b. SikaLevel® – 02 EZ Primer: Special acrylic primer for us on sound, smooth, and nonporous substrates in interior areas. Applied prior to application of Sika Level products on ceramic tiles, epoxy floors, or vinyl floor coverings.
c. SikaLevel® – 225: A one-component cementitious self-leveling pumpable or manually applied underlayment for interior concrete or cementitious substrates.
Used for leveling from 1/8 inch to 1-1.4 inch in depth. For extended thickness refer to the manufacture’s current production data sheet.
d. SikaLevel® – 325: a one component, cementitious self-leveling pumpable or manually applied underlayment for interior and exterior cementitious substrates. Used for leveling from 1/8 inch to 1-1/2 inch in depth. For extended thickness refer to the manufacturer’s current product data sheet.
e. SikaTile® – 050 Slope Rapid: a one-component rapid seeing, trowel applied, polymer-modified leveling floor underlayment that can receive overlay in 3 to 4 hours. Used for leveling for 1/8 inch to 3 inch in depth.
f. SikaLevel® SkimCoat: a one-component cementitious skim mortar for repairing or reprofiling concrete, approved wood subfloors, and correctly prepared ceramic or quarry tiles before the installation.
g. SikaLevel® – 025 Patch: a fast drying, self-curing, polymer-modified, cement-based patching compound that rapidly develops high compressive strength. Use for smoothing, leveling, patching, filling cracks, holes, or voids in concrete and approved wood underlayment’s prior to the installation of floor coverings. From featheredge to ½ inch floor coverings can be installed 1 hour after application. Mix with Sika Latex R to use as an embossing leveler or patch over properly prepared vinyl sheet goods, vinyl composition tile (VCT), cement terrazzo and residual cutback adhesive surfaces.

2.6 WATERPROOF/CRACK ISOLATION MEMBRANE
A. Load bearing, Bonded, Waterproof/Crack Isolation for Thin-set Ceramic Tile and Dimension Stone Installations: ANSI A118.10/ANSI A118.12.
a. SikaTile® – 100 Moisture Guard: a fast-drying thin mil, love VOC, fluid- applied elastomeric waterproofing, and crack isolation membrane that provides 100% positive-side waterproofing, high-strength and elongation, inhibits reflective cracking, and  conforms to any form or irregular shape (i.e. base flashings, parapets, drains, trenches, etc.).
b. SikaTile® – 225 Fracture Guard PNS: consists of a 40-mil thick rubberized asphalt membrane with a heavy film laminated on the face of the sheet and a siliconized, removable release sheet adhered on the adhesive side.

2.7 SETTING MATERIALS
SikaTile – 475 LHT Premium Set: High Performance polymer modified, dry set mortar for use large and heavy tile mortar for installation of gauged porcelain tile, large and heavy ceramic or porcelain tile, and natural stone.
SikaTile – 825 Epoxy Grout: 100% solids, non=porous, high strength, epoxy grout and mortar for heavy duty performance in specialty areas that require chemical resistance, stain resistance, shock resistance, and impermeable sanitary performance Excellent for moisture sensitive and resin backed stones.

2.8 GROUTING MATERIALS
SikaTile® – 850 Ultima Grout: ready-to-use grout designed for commercial and residential installations with porcelain, ceramic and natural-stone tiles, glass tile, gauged porcelain tile panels and slabs (GPT), luxury vinyl tile (LVT), luxury vinyl plank (LVP). Can be used to grout interior and exterior applications as well as intermittent wet conditions such as bathtub surrounds, shower walls, and shower floors. Formulated using colored quarts technology, which ensures color consistency, excellent stain resistance, ease of cleanability and improved workability. Used for grout joints from 1/16 inch to ½ inch (1.5 to 12 mm).

SikaTile® – 825 Epoxy Grout: 100% solids, non-porous, high strength, epoxy grout and mortar for heavy duty performance in specialty areas that require chemical resistance, stain resistance, shock resistance, and impermeable sanity performance. Excellent for moisture sensitive and resin backed stones. Exceeds ANSI A118.3.

Part 3 – Execution

3.1 Inspection
A. Examine areas to receive terrazzo for:
a. Defects in existing work that affect proper execution of terrazzo.
b. Deviations beyond allowable tolerances for the substrate.

3.2 Installation
A. Setting:
c. Set accurately as shown on drawings. Contact the material manufacturer for any questions concerning proper bonding of materials. Setting methods are:
i. Mud set
ii. Thin set
iii. We l d
iv. Bolt
d. Alignment of precast should be straight and true to all dimensions. It may not vary more than 1/16 in length, height, or width.
e. Install anchors as shown in the details.
f. Contact Mondani Collection Representative for any questions. Install all SikaTile system materials per manufacturers written instructions.
B. Terrazzo contractor shall install precast terrazzo units as follows:
a. ANSI 108.05 is the standard specification for setting tile with latex- portland cement thin set mortar. ANSI 108.06 is the standard specification for setting tile with epoxy adhesive.
b. Precast Terrazzo Base: use (latex-portland cement mortar) or (epoxy adhesive) to install precast terrazzo base over substrates indicated according to ANSI 108.5 or ANSI 108.6.
c. Keep following subparagraph if precast stair units are set on concrete stairs and landings or concrete filled treads and landings. ANSI 108.05 is the standard specification for setting tile with latex-portland cement thin-set mortar: ANSI 108.06 is the standard specification for setting tile with epoxy adhesive.
i. Precast Terrazzo Stairs Unit: Use latex-portland cement mortar or epoxy adhesive to install treads, risers, and landings over concrete substrates according to ANSI 108.5 or 108.6.
d. Keep following subparagraph if precast stair units are set on steel risers or steel plate stairs and landings.
i. Precast Terrazzo Stair Units: Use epoxy adhesive to install treads, risers, and landings over steel substrates according to ANSI 108.6

3.3 Protection
A. Section 01700 – Execution Requirements: Protecting installed construction.
B. The General Contractor shall protect the finished work from the tie that the terrazzo contractor finishes the work. Do not permit anything other than pedestrian traffic over finished terrazzo surfaces.
