Introduction

Thank you for selecting the Actxa® Sense smart scale! This is a body weight scale and body fat analyser that helps you manage your health by measuring and tracking weight, body mass index, body fat, body water, muscle mass and bone mass data.

The Actxa® Sense smart scale will automatically recognise the user based on similar history records and send the measured body composition information to your smartphone via Bluetooth®.

Introduction

01. Setting Up The Actxa® Sense

Actxa® Sense

Insert batteries (4 x 1.5V AAA) into the battery compartment at the back of the scale. Check polarity indications marked inside the compartment, to ensure the batteries are positioned correctly. Close the battery door. The digits ‘8888’ will be displayed.

Place the scale on a flat, hard surface. Soft surfaces (eg. carpeting) will affect its performance. Wait until the digits ‘0.0’ are displayed

02. Setting Up The Actxa® Sense

Sense

The Actxa® Sense smart scale connects with the Actxa® App via Bluetooth® 4.0 technology. Download the Actxa® App from the App Store or Google Play onto a smartphone.

03. Account Set-up & Pair Actxa® Sense

Turn on Bluetooth® and launch the Actxa® App on your smartphone. Follow the onscreen instructions to:

01 Set up and login to the Actxa® App account
02 Set up your user profile. This involves adding information such as gender, height, and age.
03 Pair the Actxa® Sense smart scale with the Actxa® App. Once this is successful, the scale display will show ‘PASS’. If pairing was not successful, the display will show ‘FAIL’.

If you own another Actxa® product and have already installed the Actxa® App, simply launch the app and add a new device. You can then follow the onscreen instructions as previously indicated.

Once your set up on the Actxa® App is completed, your Actxa® Sense smart scale is ready to start measuring and tracking data.

The Actxa® Sense smart scale supports up to 8 individual user profiles can be set up and tracked on the Actxa® App.

04. Taking Measurements

To take daily measurements, step onto the platform barefooted. Stand still and maintain full contact with the ITO {Indium Tin Oxide) plates until the screen stops displaying the moving ‘o’

The Actxa® Sense smart scale will automatically identify the likely user, based on the most similar history records. The measured data will then be displayed sequentially, three times. Should there be two or more users with similar history records, the Actxa® smart scale will notify you to select the right user ID, using the ‘UP’ and ‘DOWN’ keys.

The Actxa® Sense smart scale will display sequentially your measurements in the order: Body Fat (FAT), Total Body Water (TBW), Muscle Mass (MUS), Bone Mass (BONE), Calories (kcal), Body Mass Index (BMI) and Weight. This is repeated three times.

05. Syncing Data To Your Smart Device

The data from the Actxa® Sense smart scale will automatically be transmitted via Bluetooth®, based on the identified profile that has been assigned to the particular smartphone. After a successful data transmission, the symbol §J will disappear and your personal health data is now available on your smartphone. If data transmission fails, the symbol §J will remain. All measurement data will be temporarily stored in the Actxa® Sense smart scale until the next transmission. Up to 30 sets of data entries can be stored per profile (1 set of data entry is Body Fat, Total Body Water, Muscle Mass, Bone Mass, Calories, BMI and Weight).

Syncing Data

Use The Actxa Sense Smart Scale As A Conventional Scale

The Actxa® Sense smart scale can also operate as a conventional scale, measuring just weight. Start by initialising the scale. Place the scale on a flat, hard surface and press the centre of the platform with your foot. ‘0.0’ will be displayed. The scale will then switch off and is ready for measuring. Should you move the scale to a different location, you need to repeat the initialisation process.

To measure your weight, step onto the platform barefoot and remain still. The Actxa® Sense smart scale will measure your weight, and display the value. The scale will automatically turn off after a few seconds. This value will not be saved within the device or transmitted to the Actxa® App .

The Actxa® Sense smart scale is intended for home-use only. This device is for healthy individuals over 10 years old.

The Actxa® Sense smart scale uses Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis
(BIA) technology, which generates a weak electrical current that passes through your body to make the various measurements. This current is small (less than 0.5mA) and may not be felt. It is safe, toxic-free and non- invasive.

However, the Actxa® Sense smart scale should NOT be used for individuals who are pregnant or those wearing implantable electronic devices (eg. Pace-maker).

Do not touch the output of batteries when using the Actxa® Sense smart scale. The patient is an intended operator. The patient can perform all the operations in the manual, such as measurement, data transmitting, changing batteries.

Contraindications

01. This device is contraindicated for any female subject who may be suspected of, or is pregnant. Besides possibility of inaccurate readings, there might be unknown implications on the fetus through this device.

02. This device is contraindicated for any person who is connected to a wearable or implantable electronic device or instrument such as a pacemaker or defibrillator.

Your Scale And Its Environment
To ensure your safety as well as the service life of your scale, please avoid using the scale under the following circumstances:

Efficient Use Of Your Scale
To ensure the accuracy of measurement, please follow below instructions when you start measurement.

Place the scale on a flat, hard surface. Soft surface such as carpet will affect the accuracy of the scale.
Step onto the platform with bare feet. Stand still and keep full contact with the electrodes until the measurement is complete.
Start measurement at least two hours after waking up or dining.
Avoid measurement immediately after strenuous exercise, sauna or bath, drinking, and dining.
Always start measurement in the same time slot and on the same flat, hard surface.

Limited Product Warranty

The Actxa® Sense smart scale (The ‘Product’) is guaranteed against manufacturer’s defects for a period of 1 year from the date of purchase. This warranty only covers defects in materials and workmanship. If the activity tracker is found to be faulty due to defects in materials and workmanship, the authorized service provider will replace it with another Actxa® Sense smart scale.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, excessive abuse or misuse and damage arising from failure to follow instructions relating to the Product’s use. This Limited Warranty does not cover the services provided by Actxa Pte Ltd or any 3rd party service provider to owners of the Product. All warranty claims must be accompanied by a sales receipt and this warranty booklet.

What is covered under this limited 1 year warranty?
This Limited Warranty applies to Actxa products purchased from an Authorized Actxa dealer or authorised online store by the original purchaser for normal use and not for resale. Actxa warrants that a covered product is free from defects in material and workmanship, with the exception as stated below.

How long does the limited warranty coverage last?
This Limited Warranty lasts for 1 year from date of purchase. A valid proof of purchase will be required to prove eligibility. If you do not have a valid proof of purchase, the Limited Warranty period will be measured from the date of sale by Actxa to the authorised distributorship. Actxa reserves the right to reject any warranty claim without any valid proof of purchase.

What is not covered under this Limited Warranty?
This Limited Warranty applies only to the product manufactured by or for Actxa that can be identified by the “Actxa” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to it. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any (a) Actxa products and services other than the Product, (b) non-Actxa hardware product, (c) consumables (such as batteries), or (d) software, even if packaged or sold with the Product or embedded in the Product. Actxa’s Commitment to Product Excellence
Actxa will inspect the product to ascertain the nature of defects. Actxa will repair the product at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts or replace the product with a new or refurbished product. Where a replacement product is supplied, this shall be guaranteed for the balance of the original warranty period. Any models that is no longer available shall be replaced by a model of a value and with such features as Actxa consider appropriate in the circumstances. Why can’t I sync my weight results to the Actxa app?

Please ensure that you have done the following:
1. Your mobile phone’s bluetooth connection is enabled and you have a stable network connection (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G)
2. To sync your measurements, the Actxa Sense smart scale has to be turned on.
3. Step on the Actxa Sense smart scale. Wait for the “o o o o” to finish loading.
4. While the Actxa Sense smart scale is still turned on, launch the Actxa app.
5. On the Sense Dashboard, pull down the page. You should enter the “weighing” page.
6. Wait patiently for your data to be synced over.

How can I use Actxa Sense without pairing it with the Actxa app?

Please follow the steps below:
1. On the Actxa Sense, tap the ‘Set’ button.
2. The user ID will start blinking. Using the ‘up’ and ‘down’ buttons, choose a slot that is not being used. Tap the ‘Set’ button to confirm.
3. Now, input your profile. Set your gender, height and age using the ‘up’ and ‘down buttons. Tap the ‘Set’ button to confirm.
4. The LED will display ‘0.0 lb‘. Step on the scale to measure your weight for the first time.
5. To change the units, tap the ‘mode‘ button at the back of the scale.
6. Your profile is now set to your chosen user ID.

Is my phone compatible with Actxa Sense?

Actxa Sense supports the following devices:
– iOS 9.0 and above
– Android 4.3 and above
*Not compatible with non-Samsung (e.g. Huawei, Sony, LG, Xiaomi, etc.) users with Android versions between 7.0 and 7.1.1

How would Actxa Sense be useful for me?

1. Body Fat – Body fat percentage gives you a better measure of fitness than weight alone – the composition of your weight loss could mean you are losing muscle mass rather than fat. Body fat also differs from individuals based on their age and gender.

2. Muscle Mass – As your muscle mass increases, the ability of burning calories increases which accelerates your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and helps you reduce excess body fat and lose weight in a healthy way.

3. Total Body Water – Useful in estimating an individual’s hydration level. Being well-hydrated helps concentration levels, sports performance and general well-being.*

4. Bone Mass – Useful indicator for your overall bone health. The lower the bone mass, the higher the risk of having bone fractures.

5. Body Mass Index (BMI) – An indication of risks related to the respective weight classifications (e.g. if you are underweight, you have risk of osteoporosis in the later life). However, BMI is just a number and does not take into account the composition of an individual’s body weight. Therefore, Actxa Sense helps to identify the different body composition components for health and fitness purposes.

*Your hydration level may fluctuate based on external factors (e.g. exercise, illness, consumption of caffeine/alcohol, menstruation). Kids and babies may also have a larger body water percentage than adults.

How should I move on after knowing the measurements?

Having the knowledge of one’s body composition allows individuals to formulate exercise prescriptions or seek nutritional advice. It is advisable to balance out with physical activities and good nutrition to avoid developing health- related diseases.

What type of batteries do I need?

You need 4 x AAA batteries (6V).

How active should I be to be considered as an ‘athlete’?

An athlete is defined as one who exercises more than 12 hours a week.
This setting may affect the accuracy of your body composition.

How does changing the user’s gender/age/height/activity level affect the body composition analysis?

It will affect the calculations for each physiological formula.
Actxa Sense is adjusted to take account of the different demographics of each user.

How does Actxa Sense differentiate between different users?

The difference between each user has to be at least 0.5kg in order for Actxa Sense to differentiate between them. If the weight is too similar between 2 users, the scale will prompt 2 UserIDs for you to choose from.

Why does my Actxa Scale show 2 User IDs on the LED display and what should I do?

This is possible if your weight is very similar to other Sense users. There will only be 2 users appearing at one time. The “UP” arrow indicates one user, while the “DOWN” arrow indicates the other. Simply press the arrow to select your UserID. If there are more than 2 users with similar weight, wait for 5 seconds. The other UserID options will be displayed subsequently.

Software

Where can I obtain my readings after weighing?

The results will appear 3 times on the scale after you weigh.
However, if you wish to keep track of your readings, please keep your mobile device near and launch the Actxa app while you weigh.
Once you sync to the Actxa app, you will be able to see your readings on the Dashboard and keep track of your weight trends under History.

How do I set up and change my personal information?

If you wish to change your age, gender, height or activity level, you are recommended to make any profile changes through the Actxa app (Account > Profile).
On the next weigh, you will be prompted to choose between the scale or app’s profile. Select “Use App’s” and weigh yourself again.

Why does the Actxa app prompt ‘Unable To Match Profile’ after I weigh?

This will occur when the Actxa app has failed to receive any weigh logs of the correct user from the Actxa Sense smart scale. Check if you have selected the correct user before you enter the weighing screen.

Why does the Actxa app prompt ‘Difference In Profile’ after I weigh?

This will occur when your profile (age/gender/height/activity level) is different between the Actxa Sense smart scale and the Actxa app. You will be given two options to choose from: “Use Scale’s” and “Use App’s”. If you select Use Scale’s, the profile on your app will be changed to be the same. However, if you choose “Use App’s”, the profile on the scale will only be changed on your next weigh.

How do I add a family member who does not have a mobile phone (manual user)?

Go to Devices > Actxa Sense Smart Scale > Users. Add a new user by clicking on any of the ‘+’ buttons.

How do I weigh a manual user?

Go to Devices > Actxa Sense Smart Scale > Users. Click on your preferred Sense user and tap the ‘scale’ icon (top left).

How can I edit manual user profile?

Go to Devices > Actxa Sense Smart Scale > Users. Click on your preferred Sense user and tap the ‘edit’ icon (bottom left).

How do I delete a Sense user?

Go to Devices > Actxa Sense smart scale > Users.

There are 2 types of Sense users:
1. Actxa users – those with the actxa ‘X’ logo
– You have to send a delete request to the user.
– The user has to accept your request.
– Once the user accepts, the scale will be unpaired for his account and the slot will be available for other users.
– You may force delete the user after sending the third request, if no response is received.

2. Manual Users
– There will be no delete requests sent.
– Once you delete a manual user, you will be unable to recover or restore any data (weight trends).

Do I need an internet connection to sync the measurements to the Actxa app?

Yes, you are advised to have internet connection (Wi-Fi or Mobile Data) to sync your measurements to the Actxa app to prevent data loss.

Why can’t I sync my weight results to the Actxa app?

Please ensure that you have done the following:
1. Your mobile phone’s bluetooth connection is enabled and you have a stable network connection (Wi-Fi or 3G/4G)
2. To sync your measurements, the Actxa Sense smart scale has to be turned on.
3. Step on the Actxa Sense smart scale. Wait for the “o o o o” to finish loading.
4. While the Actxa Sense smart scale is still turned on, launch the Actxa app.
4. On the Sense Dashboard, pull down the page. You should enter the “weighing” page.
6. Wait patiently for your data to be synced over.
