Product Usage Instruction

Installation Instructions:

General Information:
Before installation, ensure wood subfloors are dry with moisture readings not exceeding 12%. Resolve high moisture issues before proceeding.

Concrete Sub Floors:

  • Concrete must be at least 60 days old
  • Perform a calcium chloride test and document the results
  • Use vapour barrier seam tape for the floating method
  • Check concrete emissions for glue down method

Floor Preparation:
Subfloors and QuietBoard seams must be flat within specified tolerances. Ensure the subfloor is clean, smooth, and free of debris before installation.

Tools Needed:

  • Utility blade (fresh/new blades)
  • Straight edge
  • Marker
  • Tape Measure

Application Specifics:
Based on floor covering thickness, QuietBoard can be floated or glued. For floor coverings less than 4mm thick, QuietBoard must be glued to the substrate.

Glue Down Installation:
QuietBoard is to be glued down when paired with any glue-down floor covering or a floating floor covering.

FAQ:

  • Q: Can QuietBoard be used with all types of flooring?
A: QuietBoard is designed for use with all vinyl planks & tiles, laminate, floating & glue-down wood, cork, bamboo, carpet & carpet tile.

  • Q: What should I do if the wood subfloor moisture readings are too high?
A: If moisture readings exceed 12%, postpone the installation and resolve the high moisture issue before proceeding.

QuietBoard is designed for use with all vinyl planks & tiles, laminate, floating & glue-down wood, cork, bamboo, carpet & carpet tile. This sound reduction underlay system is easy to install and is suitable for use over most types of industry-approved sub-floors (3/4” Plywood, concrete, OSB flooring, etc.)

General Information

  • Wood Sub Floors:
Using a species-specific moisture meter, determine if conditions are dry before installing. Wood subfloor moisture reading must not exceed 12%. If moisture readings are too high, postpone the installation and resolve the issue.

  • Concrete Sub Floors:
Concrete must be at least 60 days old. A calcium chloride test must be performed and results documented. When installing over a concrete subfloor using the floating method, a vapour barrier seam tape is required. When using the glue-down method, ensure the concrete emissions conform to the specifications of the adhesive manufacturer.

  • Floor Preparation:
All wood and concrete subfloors must be flat within 1/8” over a 6’ span, or 3/16” over a 10’ span. All seams of QuietBoard must meet this requirement as well. Be sure the subfloor is clean, smooth, and free of dust and debris. All areas must be checked before installation.

Note:
Due to the nature of our manufacturing process and the use of recycled material, the pad thickness may vary .5mm plus/minus. The size may also vary by 1%. While the appearance of the panels may change, we guarantee this slight variance DOES NOT affect the functionality of the product.

Tools Needed

Tools Needed (pic #1):

  • Utility blade (keep blades fresh/new)
  • Straight edge
  • Marker
  • Tape Measure

Installation

Floating Installation:

  • QuietBoard can only be floated when paired with a 4mm or thicker floating floor covering.
  • Begin laying panels of QuietBoard perpendicular to the flooring direction, butting them tightly (see pic #2).
  • Panels need to be staggered at approximately 50%, eliminating a grid-style layout (see pic #2). ¼” Expansion gap is to be left at all perimeter walls (see pic #2).
  • All seams must be taped using an appropriate seam tape (use vapour barrier seam tape over the concrete subfloor – see pic #3).
  • Install flooring perpendicular to QuietBoard according to the flooring manufacturer’s specifications (see pic #4).

Glue Down Installation:
(Required for planks less than 4mm thick)

  • QuietBoard is to be glued down when paired with any glue-down floor covering or a floating floor covering <4mm thick.
  • Begin by troweling a high-quality multipurpose flooring adhesive using the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended trowel size.
  • Lay panels of QuietBoard perpendicular to flooring direction, film side up, butting them tightly (see pic #2).
  • QuietBoard panels are to be installed while the adhesive is still wet.
  • QuietBoard panels need to be rolled with a 75lb-100lb roller to ensure a full bond is made.
  • Panels need to be staggered at approximately 50% eliminating a grid-style layout (see pic #2).
  • ¼” Expansion gap is to be left at all perimeter walls (see pic #2).
  • All seams need to be properly prepared under the flooring manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Failure to properly prepare seams will void all warranty.
  • We do not recommend taping seams in glue-down installation.
  • Install flooring perpendicular to QuietBoard according to the manufacturer’s specifications (see pic #4).
    • This product can potentially be mechanically fastened to the substrate. Call MP Global for approval
    • If installing with QuietWarmth Radiant Heat system, install the QuietBoard with the silver film facing the subfloor
