Product Information

The user manual provides instructions on how to install and adjust a bicycle front derailleur. It includes information on the required tools, torque values, and grease types. The manual also contains guidance on using a chain retention device and aligning chainring teeth with the guide marks on the derailleur.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Use the correct type of grease for lubrication. The manual lists different names for grease in multiple languages.
  2. Measure torque values when tightening screws or bolts. The manual provides values in different units of measurement.
  3. Adjust the front derailleur by turning the high limit screw until the tallest chainring teeth appear within the setup line when viewed from the side.
  4. Align the tooth tips of the large chainring with the guide marks on the derailleur.
  5. Check the gap between the tallest teeth of the large chainring and bottom edge of the outer cage plate. If it is not between 1-2mm, adjust the height of the derailleur and repeat steps 4, 12, and 13.
  6. Use a chain retention device to prevent the chain from falling off the chainring.

Note: Use extreme caution when using clamp-style front derailleurs as bicycle frames can be damaged at higher torque values.

  • The gap between the tallest teeth of the large chainring and bottom edge of the outer cage plate must be 1-2 mm. If it is not, adjust the height of the derailleur (1 & 2), then repeat steps 4, 12, and 13.
  • Pull cable tight before tightening bolt.
  • With the chain as illustrated, hold the shift lever inboard as far as possible (A) while you turn the high limit screw (B) in or out until it lightly contacts the inner link tab (C), then turn the high limit screw until there is 1 mm of clearance between the inside of the outer derailleur cage plate and the chain (D). • With the chain as illustrated, move the shift lever inboard as far as possible (A) and then release. Rotate the cranks (B) to upshift to the large chainring. Use the barrel adjusters (C) to add cable tension until the chain upshifts smoothly. Repeat A – C as needed.SRAM-Apex-Mechanical-Shift-Brake-Lever-fig-18SRAM-Apex-Mechanical-Shift-Brake-Lever-fig-19 SRAM-Apex-Mechanical-Shift-Brake-Lever-fig-26 SRAM-Apex-Mechanical-Shift-Brake-Lever-fig-27 SRAM-Apex-Mechanical-Shift-Brake-Lever-fig-28

FINE TUNING

  • Slow shifting from a smaller cog to a larger cog (downshifting)? Turn the barrel adjuster counter-clockwise.

SAFETY CHECK

  • Confirm that you have tightened all of your components to the specified torque.

MAINTENANCE

  • Inspect brake pads for wear every month. When the grooves on your brake pads disappear, they are worn and need to be replaced with new brake pads.
