Power supply

4.1. Batteries
The camera runs on 8 AA alkaline batteries.
You can purchase AA alkaline batteries at any time on www.numaxes.com. Before inserting or removing the batteries, the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position).
When inserting the batteries, make sure to follow polarity indicated inside the battery slots. Upside down batteries may cause device malfunction.

We strongly recommend changing the batteries when the power icon on the screen is empty.
NOTE: Don’t mix used batteries and new batteries!
4.2. Power adaptor
This camera can also be powered by an external adapter 6V/1A.
The DC port is located at the bottom of the device.
The power connector is a 3.5×1.35mm coaxial DC power plug with positive tip polarity.
Do not remove the batteries from the device when a power adapter is used.
DC power is recommended if the camera is used for security purposes.

SD card (or micro SD with adapter)

Using a SD or micro SD with adapter memory card (from 4GB up to 32GB – class 10 minimum) is required to operate the camera.
You can purchase micro SD cards with adapter at any time at www.numaxes.com.
When the camera is in TEST mode and no memory card is inserted, the LDC screen displays “No SD card”.
Formatting the SD card in the trail camera before using it for the first time is strongly recommended, especially when the card has been used in other devices. An SD card formatted in another device may not be compatible.
Before inserting or removing the SD card, the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position). Failing to do so may cause loss of or damage the files already recorded on the memory card.
When the SD card is full, the LCD screen indicates “Memory full”.

Operation

6.1. Turn ON the camera
Any time after the batteries and SD card have been inserted, you can switch on the camera.
Put the switch in the “ON” position; the camera is ready to work.
The LCD display will count down 15 seconds. This interval allows you time to close the camera front cover and leave the monitored area.
Once in the ON mode, the camera will take photos or videos according to its current parameter settings.
NOTE: the camera comes pre-programmed with factory default settings. In order to test or use the device, you only need to insert the SD card and AA batteries then power on the camera (switch in the ON position).
6.2. Turn OFF the camera
Slide the switch to the OFF position to turn off the camera.
Please note that even in OFF mode, the camera still consumes power at a very low level.
Therefore, please remove the batteries if the camera will not be used for a long time.
The OFF mode is the “safe mode” for actions such as: replacing the SD card or batteries, or transporting the camera.
You will also use the OFF mode when you will connect the camera to a computer’s USB port to download your photos/videos.
6.3. Customizing the settings / TEST mode
In order to check or change the settings, slide the switch to the TEST position (the LCD screen will light up) then press the MENU button (the setting menu appears on the LCD screen).
You can navigate the setting interface by pressing the UP and DOWN buttons. Press the OK button to enter parameters or to save a setting. Press the MENU button to return to the previous page.

Troubleshooting FAQ

The photos do not capture subject of interest
– Check the PIR sensitivity parameter setting. In warm environmental conditions, set the sensor sensitivity to “High” and in cold weather use, set the sensor sensitivity to “Low”.
– Try to set your camera up in an area where no heat sources are in the camera’s field of view.
– In some cases, setting the camera near water will make it take images with no subject in them. Try aiming the camera over ground.
– Avoid setting the camera up on small trees that are prone to move in strong winds.
Try to set the camera on stable and immovable objects, i.e. large trees.
– Remove any tree branches which are right in front of the camera lens.
– At night, the PIR sensor may detect beyond the range of the infrared flash. Reduce the detection distance by adjusting the PIR sensor sensitivity.
– Rising sun or sunset can trigger the PIR sensor. The camera must be reoriented.
– If a subject moves quickly, it may move out of the camera’s field of view before the photo has been taken. Move the camera further back or redirect it.
Battery life is shorter than expected
– Battery life will vary with operating temperature and the number of images taken over time. Typically, the camera will be able to capture several thousand images before the batteries die.
– Check to make sure you have used new batteries.
– Make sure that the power switch was in the ON position and not in the TEST position.
The camera stops taking images/videos or won’t take images/videos
– Make sure the SD card is not full. If the memory card is full, the camera will stop taking photos/videos. To avoid such problem, check that the “Cycle recording” feature in activated (ON).
– Check the batteries to make sure that there is enough power left for the camera to work.
– Make sure the camera power switch is in the “ON” position and not in the “OFF” or “TEST” position.
– Please format the SD card with the camera before using it (especially if the card has been used in other devices) or when the camera stops taking images/videos.
– Please make sure that the write-protect switch on the side of the SD card is not in the LOCK position.
The camera won’t power up
– Make sure the batteries are installed correctly (follow polarity indicated in the battery compartment).
– After moving the switch from OFF to TEST or ON, make sure the switch is in the correct position to ensure the proper mode.
– Do not move the switch directly from ON to TEST, always move the switch all the way to OFF first, then back to TEST.

Still photo and/or video quality problems
– Night photos or videos appear too dark
– Check the battery level icon to see if battery power is full. The flash will stop operating near the end of battery life.
– You will get the best results when the subject is within ideal flash range, no farther than 20m.
– Please note that when the multi-shot parameter is set to 2 o 3 photos or when the PIR interval is very short, some images may appear darker than others due to the quick response and rapid re-triggering of the camera, allowing less time for the flash to fully recharge before firing again.
– Night photos or videos appear too bright
– Subjects may appear too bright at closer distances.
– Daytime photos or videos appear too dark
– Make sure the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the day.
– Daytime photos or videos appear too bright
– Make sure the camera is not aimed at the sun or other light sources during the day.
– Photos with streaked subject
– In some cases with low lighting conditions and fast moving objects, the 8MP, 12MP or 16MP resolution settings may not perform as well as the 5MP setting.
– If you have multiple images where fast moving subjects produce streaks, try using the 5MP setting.
– Short video clips – Not recording to the video length set
– Check to make sure the SD card is not full.
– Make sure the camera has batteries with good level of charge in it. Near the end of the battery life, the camera may choose to record shorter video clips to conserve power.
The night vision flash range doesn’t meet expectations
– Please check to make sure the batteries are fully charged or have enough power left.
– To ensure accuracy and quality of the night time images, please mount the camera in a dark environment without any obvious light sources.
– Certain surroundings (like trees, walls, ground, etc.) within flash range can get you better night time images. Please do not aim the camera to total open field where there is nothing within the IR flash range to reflect the flash back.
The date/time stamp is not appearing on the photos
– Make sure the time stamp parameter is set to “Time & date” or “Date”.

The PIR sensor indicator light flashes/doesn’t flash
– When the camera is in the TEST mode, a red indicator light on the front of the camera flashes when the PIR sensor detects motion. This is for setup purposes only and will help you aim the camera.
– During use, the indicator light doesn’t flash when the PIR sensor detects motion. This helps keep the camera discreet.
The camera doesn’t retain settings
– Make sure you have been saving the changes to any parameter settings that you made while in TEST mode, by pressing OK after changing the setting.
Moisture or ants inside the camera
– To ensure humidity or rain is kept out of the camera, secure the DC port rubber plug firmly in place.
– Ants can be attracted by low level electronic vibrations, and enter through any gaps between the exterior and interior of the camera. Make sure the DC port rubber plug is firmly in place.
