Power supply

Batteries

The camera runs on 12 AA size batteries. The product can work with alkaline or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. You can purchase alkaline or Ni-MH AA batteries at any time on www.numaxes.com. Before inserting or removing the batteries, the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position). When inserting the batteries, make sure to follow polarity indicated inside the battery slot. Upside down batteries may cause device malfunction. Please select the battery type you’re using in the menu option “Battery type” to reach longer operation time

Solar panel
This camera is able to work with a solar panel with build-in lithium battery (12V/2A). You can purchase a 12V solar panel at any time on www.numaxes.com.

NOTE : the solar panel cannot charge Ni-MH batteries placed in the battery compartment of the device as these batteries require a higher voltage to recharge.

Power adaptor

This camera can also be powered by an external DC adapter (12V/2A). You can purchase a 12V external DC adapter at any time on www.numaxes.com. We recommend removing the batteries when a power adapter is used. DC power is recommended if the camera is used for security purposes.

Memory card

Using a memory card is required to operate the camera (SD card | Capacity from 4GB up to 32GB max | Class 10 minimum).
You can purchase micro SD cards with adapter at any time at www.numaxes.com.
When the camera is in SETUP mode and no memory card is inserted, the LDC screen displays “No SD card”.
Formatting the memory card in the trail camera before using it for the first time is strongly recommended, especially when the card has been used in other devices. A memory card formatted in another device may not be compatible.
Before inserting or removing the memory card, the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position).
Failing to do so may cause loss of or damage the files already recorded on the memory card.
When the memory card is full, the LCD screen indicates “Memory full”.

SIM card
Before inserting or removing the SIM card (standard size), the camera must be turned off (switch in the OFF position). When the camera is in SETUP mode and no SIM card is inserted, the LCD screen displays “No SIM”.

Attaching the antenna
Screw the antenna onto the socket on top of the camera. Make sure it is securely attached, but do not overtighten it

Operation

Turn ON the camera
Put the switch in the ON position to turn on the camera (the LCD screen does not light up when you put the switch to ON).The indicator light located on the front of the product flashes 5 times before the camera gets into working mode. This interval allows you to close the camera front cover and leave the monitored area. Once in the ON mode, the camera will take photos or videos according to its current parameter settings.

Turn OFF the camera
Slide the switch to the OFF position to turn off the camera. Please note that even in OFF mode, the camera still consumes power at a very low level. Therefore, please remove the batteries if the camera will not be used for a long time. The OFF mode is the “safe mode” for actions such as: replacing the memory card, replacing the SIM card, replacing the batteries or transporting the camera.

How to connect the camera to the network
When you slide the switch to the SETUP position, if a SIM card is inserted, the camera automatically enters a signal search process. If a signal bar pops up on the screen, it means the camera has automatically connected to the network. By then, you only need to fill in the information in the “Recipients” setting of the configuration menu to receive photos.

Photo/video replay on the LCD screen

Slide the switch to the SETUP position.
Press to enter the replay function, then press for selection.
Press OK to play photo/video.
Press again to exit.

Delete files

Slide the switch to the SETUP position.
Press to enter the replay function, then press for selection.
Press the MENU button then select “Delete” and press OK.
Select “One” (delete the selected photo/video) or “All” (delete all photos/videos) then press OK.
If your selected “One”, “Delete This File?” will appear on the screen, select “Yes” or “No” then press
If you selected “All”, “Delete all files?” will appear on the screen, select “Yes” or “No” then press OK.
Press MENU to exit.

Format memory card

Slide the switch to the SETUP position.
Press to enter the replay function.
Press the MENU button then select “Format” and press OK.
Select “Yes” or “No”. If you selected “Yes”, “Are you really sure?” will appear on the screen, select “Yes”
“No” then press OK.
Press MENU to exit.

Webcam Mode
When the camera is connected via USB cable; the LCD screen displays “MSDC”. Press the MENU button once, “MSDC” turns to “PC Cam”, the camera now can be used as a PC camera (webcam). Press the MENU button again, the camera exits the PC camera mode.

Auto power off
In SETUP mode, the camera will automatically power off if you don’t press the keypad for more than 3 minutes. Slide the switch to OFF then back to SETUP if you want to do some further configuration.

How to customize the camera settings
To enter the camera setting menu, slide the switch to the SETUP position (the LCD screen will light up) then press the MENU button once.You can navigate the setting interface by pressing Press OK for selection, press MENU to exit to the previous page, and press MENU to switch letters/digits/symbols. Cam

Select “ON” then press OK to set an ID number for the camera (4 digits). Such function can help you identify from where and from which camera the photos are.

Camera Mode| Photo | Video | Photo + Video

– Photo : the camera will shoot only photos based on the configured “Photo resolution” and “Multi-shot” settings.

– Video : the camera will shoot only videos based on the configured “Video resolution” and “Video length” settings.

– Photo + Video : upon the same trigger event, the camera will shoot photo(s) first then a video based on the configured “Photo resolution”, “Multi-shot”, “Video resolution” and “Video length” settings.

LED| All | Part

– All : all 58 infrared LED will work in dark environment.

– Part : the 30 infrared LED located at the bottom of the product will be turned off.

Photo Resolution| 12MP | 8MP | 5MP

Higher resolution produces better quality photos but creates larger files that take up more of the memory card capacity (fills up faster).

Night Mode| Maximum range | Balanced | Minimum blur

– Maximum range : this setting offers a longer exposure time to extend the infrared flash range for a better night vision (lower quality image).

PIR

PIR sensor detection sensitivity| High | Medium | Low

With a high detection sensitivity, the PIR sensor:

‒ is more sensitive to movements by smaller subjects;

‒ offers longer detection distance;

‒ can trigger the camera more easily.

In high temperature environment, it is recommended to use high detection sensitivity. This setting makes it easier for the PIR sensor to detect a difference between body heat and outdoor temperature.

In environments with lots of interference (hot wind, smoke, near window), it is recommended to use low PIR detection sensitivity.

PIR interval| OFF | ON – Default PIR interval: 20 seconds

Select “ON” then press OK to set the time interval that you desire between photos/videos upon motion. This option avoids camera taking to many photos or videos.

Configurable PIR Interval from 00:00:05 to 23:59:59.

Example : if the PIR interval is 00:01:00, the camera will wait 1 minute between photo/video recordings with motion.

WARNING : don’t turn ON “Time-lapse” and “PIR interval” simultaneously

Time-lapse| OFF | ON

With “Time-lapse” ON, the camera will capture photos or videos automatically at a pre-set time interval regardless of whether motions are detected or not.

| Select “ON” then press OK to set the interval; the camera will shoot photos or video clips automatically upon the user set interval.

WARNING : when the “Time-lapse” parameter is set to ON, the PIR sensor is deactivated (there is no motion detection).

Configurable Time-lapse from 00:00:05 to 23:59:59.

Example : if Time-lapse is set to 00:30:00, the camera will automatically capture photos/videos every 30 minutes.

WARNING : don’t turn ON “Time-lapse” and “PIR interval” simultaneously

Each day, the camera will work only during the user set time period.

Select “ON” then press OK to set the start time and end time of the desired working period.

Example : If the Working timer setting is 15:00-18:00; the camera will work only between 15h00 (03:00 PM) and 18h00 (06:00 PM) each day.

– MMS

Please contact your operator for MMSC/APN/Proxy/Port (Username and Password if required) and enter this info manually.

NOTE :

‒ With MMS setups added, the camera can send photos to the pre-set phones/e-mails. If the MMS information entered are false, then the phones/e-mail accounts will not be able to receive photos from the camera.

‒ Email boxes receive photos from the camera via SMTP only when SMTP is ON and with the correct SMTP information entered.

– 3G

Enter your local operator’s 3G APN, and corresponding Username and Password.

NOTE :

‒ Only with 3G setups added, can SMTP and FTP functions work.

‒ It’s not a must to enter Username and Password of APN, but some operators may require this password access to enable the 3G function. For details, please contact your local operator.

MMS| NUM’AXES SIM card

Deactivated parameter | The NUM’AXES SIM card is a data card. It does not send MMS, only e-mails.

Select “ON” then press OK to receive photos via MMS. Resolution of photos sent by MMS: 640 x 480 pixels

SMTP| Default | Manual | OFF

The camera comes with default SMTP setups; you only need to enter the receiving e-mail accounts in the “Recipients” setting.

If you’d like to use your own SMTP server, please enter the information below:

– Enter your mailbox server IP.

i.e.: Hotmail IP: smtp.live.com / Gmail IP: smtp.gmail.com

| – Enter your mailbox port.

Port of most mailboxes is 25.

– Enter your mailbox password access. NOTE :

‒ SMTP only send photos to pre-set e-mails; if the SMTP information entered are false, then the e-mail boxes will not be able to receive photos from the camera.

‒ MMS stops sending photos to e-mail when SMTP is set to work.

Cell phone numbers : deactivated parameter | The NUM’AXES SIM card does not send MMS.

E-mail addresses : You can enter 1 or 2 e-mail addresses that will receive photos taken by the device.

Other SIM card

Cell phone numbers : you can enter 1 or 2 cell phone numbers. The camera will send photos to the pre-set phone numbers via MMS only.

E-mail addresses : you can enter 1 or 2 e-mail addresses. The camera will send photos to the pre-set e-mail addresses via MMS or e-mail depending on the chosen settings.

NOTE : the camera will send photos to the pre-set e-mail addresses via MMS only if the SMTP parameter is OFF.

SIM PIN| NUM’AXES SIM card

You can ignore the description below if your SIM card has been already activated.

– During the signal search in SETUP mode, the camera will check if the inserted SIM card is activated.

– After the signal search, the message “Pls input PIN-Code” will appear on the LCD screen if your SIM card is not activated (the message will not appear if your SIM card is already activated).

– The “SIM PIN” setting will become configurable in the “3G” page of the menu.

– Enter the PIN code of your SIM card in the “SIM PIN” setting. The camera will automatically power off. When you will restart it, the

| camera will activate the SIM card automatically during the signal search.

NOTE :

– The message “Pls input PIN-Code” will pop up again if the wrong PIN code is entered.

– Please re-try your PIN code if you see the message “Pls input PIN-Code” again after the signal search.

– A SIM card is normally limited to be activated 3 times; it will be locked if the PIN codes entered are all wrong during these 3 attempts. So we suggest you to double confirm your PIN code before you try again.

– Please insert the SIM card into your phone to unlock it by using its PUK code after 3 unsuccessful activation attempts.

You can choose the size of the photos sent via e-mail (SMTP or FTP).

Example : if Sendings/Day is set to 50, every day, the camera will only send the first 50 photos to the recipients. The rest of the photos taken that day will not be sent but they will be stored in the memory card.

– By trigger ( suggested for AA battery power ): the camera will be able to change and save the setups remotely when the camera is triggered to shoot photos/videos.

– All the time ( suggested when using a power adaptor as this option will consume huge battery power ): the camera GPRS module is in stand-by all the time. The camera setups can be changed and saved whenever you send the remote SMS setup commands.

WARNING : due to a reconfiguration of the FREE networks, the remote control by SMS with a FREE SIM card in the device works only “By trigger”.

Daily Report| OFF | ON

If you want to receive a daily report, select ON to enter then set up a time when you want the camera to send it to you.

Contents of the daily report: device IMEI number, CSQ (signal strength): 0-31, camera ID, temperature, date and time, remaining battery power, memory card info, number of pictures taken, sending times.

NOTE : it is important to set the date and time to ensure some functions work as expected (for example: time stamp on the photos, sending time of the daily report, operation during defined time period).

Select “ON” if you want the date and time of the image capture imprinted on every photo. The current temperature, moon phase and user set camera ID will also be imprinted on the still photos.

Setting up the camera

Mount the camera facing north or south, not east or west as the rising and setting of the sun could produce false triggers and overexposed images.
If you’re covering a trail, face the camera down or up the trail.
Clear out any brush or weeds in front of the camera. These can cause false triggers due to temperature and motions disturbances in front of the camera (especially in windy days).
Check the power level of the batteries.
Make sure the memory card is properly inserted and have sufficient available space.
Verify time and date are correct.
Make sure to turn the camera ON before leaving (switch in the ON position).

Troubleshooting

The photos do not capture subject of interest

Check the PIR detection sensitivity parameter setting. For warm environmental conditions, set the sensor detection sensitivity to “High” and for cold weather use, set the sensor detection sensitivity to “Low”.
Try to set your camera up in an area where no heat sources are in the camera’s field of view.
In some cases, setting the camera near water will make it take images with no subject in them. Try aiming the camera over ground.
Avoid setting the camera up on small trees that are prone to being moved by strong winds. Try to set the camera on stable and immovable objects (i.e., large trees).
Remove any limbs which are right in front of the camera lens.
At night, the PIR sensor may detect beyond the range of the infrared flash. Reduce the detection distance by adjusting the PIR sensor sensitivity.
Rising sun or sunset can trigger the PIR sensor. The camera must be reoriented.
If a subject moves quickly, it may move out of the camera’s field of view before the photo has been taken. Move the camera further back or redirect it.

The camera stops taking images/videos or won’t take images/videos

Please make sure that the memory card is not full. If the memory card is full, the camera will stop taking photos/videos. To avoid such problem, check that the cycle recording function in activated (ON).
Check the batteries to make sure that there is enough power left for the camera to work.
Make sure that the camera power switch is in the ON position and not in the OFF or SETUP position.
Please format the memory card with the camera before using it or when the camera stops taking images/videos.

The night vision flash range doesn’t meet expectations

Please check to make sure the batteries are fully charged or have enough power left.
Adjust the Night Mode parameter to “Maximum Range” for the best IR flash range.
1.2V Ni-MH rechargeable AA batteries can offer a much better IR flash range; alkaline batteries cannot deliver enough amperage to power the illuminator consistently at night.
To ensure accuracy and quality of the night time images, please mount the camera in a dark environment without any obvious light sources.
Certain surroundings (like trees, walls, ground, etc.) within flash range can get you better night time images.
Please do not aim the camera to total open field where there is nothing within the IR flash range to reflect the flash back.

After-sales service

Should your product stop working or develop a fault, first read this guide over, and then check the batteries and replace/recharge them if necessary. Also check that you are using the product correctly.

NUM’AXES guarantees the product against production defects for two years after purchase. All postage and packing charges will be the purchaser’s sole responsibility.

Guarantee conditions

The guarantee will be valid only if the proof of purchase (invoice or sales receipt), without cancellation, is submitted to the distributor or to NUM’AXES. The guarantee is limited to the original purchaser.
This guarantee does not cover the following:
- changing the mounting strap, USB cable, antenna or SIM card
- direct or indirect risks incurred when sending the article back to the distributor or to NUM’AXES
- damage to the product caused by: negligence or incorrect use, use contrary to the instructions or not envisioned therein, repairs performed by unauthorized persons
- loss or theft
If the product is found to be defective, NUM’AXES will either decide to repair or to replace it.
No claim may be advanced against NUM’AXES, particularly in relation to incorrect use or breakdown.
NUM’AXES reserves the right to modify the characteristics of its products with a view to making technical improvements or to comply with new regulations.
