MAGUS CLM10 Digital Camera

Never look at the sun, a bright light source, or laser beam through the camera. It can cause permanent damage to your eyes.

INTRODUCTION

MAGUS digital cameras are designed to be used with all types of microscopes: biological, fluorescent, metallurgical, polarizing, and stereoscopic. The image of the observed object is displayed on a PC screen. The camera software helps you view, save, and edit captured images and video.

CAMERA INSTALLATION

  1. Install the MAGUSView software on your computer from the USB flash drive (included).
  2. Connect the camera to your computer using the USB cable.
  3. Run the MAGUSView software. The camera will be added in the list of connected devices.
  4. Select the camera to start operation.

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • CLM cameras are suitable for the darkfield and luminescence microscopy techniques. They are highly light-sensitive and low-noise.

  • There are 2 color and 3 monochrome cameras available in the CLM series. A color camera is suitable if color is important for identifying or classifying an object of study under the microscope. The monochrome camera is suitable for low-light performance, especially in fluorescence microscopy. On average, the light sensitivity and frame rate of a monochrome sensor is 2–4 times higher than the same sensor in color sensors.

  • There are 5 cameras in the CLM series with resolutions ranging from 1.7 to 8.3 MP. The higher the magnification of the objective is, the lower the number of pixels that will be required. The extra pixels will have no effect on the image resolution. When working with objectives with a magnification up to 40x, however, go for a higher resolution camera. Such a camera captures the details better.

  • The frame rate ranges from 33 to 120 fps at the camera’s maximum resolution. For studying moving objects, choose a camera with a high frame rate.

  • The sensor size is an important parameter for professional shooting. A larger sensor size offers several advantages: cleaner image, more hues, and a larger field of view. The CLM series offers cameras with sensor sizes from 1/1.2″ to 1.1″.

  • The larger the pixel is, the more light it collects, which means less image noise and the higher light sensitivity of the camera. The CLM series features cameras with pixel sizes ranging from 2.9×2.9µm to 9.0×9.0µm. Larger pixels capture more light, which is critical for observing objects using the luminescence and darkfield microscopy techniques.

  • The CLM series has 1 camera with a rolling shutter and 4 cameras with a global shutter. A global shutter is recommended for working in luminescence light or for shooting fast-moving objects. In other cases, rolling shutters are all you need.

  • The camera outputs the image on the screen in real time. The camera’s frame rate is high-speed, allowing you to smoothly adjust focus when observing with the recommended objective.

  • Detailed images with realistic colors are produced when the camera is paired with the right objective.

  • The camera is mounted into the vertical tube or a side camera port of the microscope with the C-mount adapter included in the microscope kit. The C-mount adapter (not included) and other adapter rings that match the tube diameter (not included) are used for mounting the camera into the eyepiece. The magnification of the adapter is matched to the size of the camera sensor. The main requirement for adapter optics is to provide a maximum field of view without distortion.

  • With the camera software, you can take photos, records video, and edit them.
Once calibrated with a calibration slide, the software allows for linear and angular measurements.

  • The USB3.0 transfer speed is over 10 times faster than USB2.0. The image is displayed online on the PC monitor.
Such speed combined with 30 fps and higher frame rate transmits the image of moving objects without jerks and delays, the focus adjustment is smooth even when working with a 100x objective.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  • Do not disassemble the camera on your own.
  • Keep the camera away from moisture; do not use it in rainy weather.
  • Keep the camera away from shock or excessive pressure.
  • Do not overtighten the locking screws.
  • Keep the camera away from hazardous environment, home and car heaters, incandescent lamps or open fire.
  • When cleaning the lenses, first blow any dust or debris off the surface or wipe them off with a soft brush. Then wipe the lens with a soft cleaning cloth slightly damp with spirits or ether.
  • Seek medical advice immediately if a small part or a battery is swallowed.
