Introduction
- We’re pleased that you have chosen your new Andover speakers. We call them SpeakEasy because they are easy to connect, easy to use, and most importantly, easy on the ears. They make it easy to enjoy great sound from your
- Turntable, Wireless Bluetooth device, TV, or virtually any wired analog or digital source you may wish to add. Adding an Andover SpinDeck series Turntable creates a simple high-performance playback system that is easy to set up, sounds great and is a snap to use.
- SpeakEasy 4 features a specially designed 4” woofer in a compact ported enclosure that delivers great bass response without taking much space. Its 3/4” silk-dome tweeter produces fatigue-free high frequencies with wide dispersion and stunning detail.
- Dual Direct Drive amplification drives each woofer and tweeter directly with its dedicated amplifier. This provides the smoothest possible transition from Woofer to Tweeter for detailed, distortion-free output that sounds clear at all volume levels.
- SpeakEasy 4 can also be expanded thanks to its PRE OUT which may be used to feed a subwoofer or additional powered speakers.
- Adding a Songbird series WiFi Streaming adapter (sold separately) will give your Speakeasy 4 speakers direct access to the Worldwide Web of High-Resolution entertainment from the most popular streaming services and internet radio stations.

About Andover Audio
Since 2012, we have provided design and manufacturing services behind the
scenes to some of the most recognized brands in mobile, professional, and
high-performance consumer audio. Starting in 2019 we focused our award-winning
skills on our product line that artfully blends exceptional sound with
distinctive design.
Quick Start
- Connect the included 4-pin cable to the jack labelled “TO LEFT SPEAKER”. Connect the other end of this cable to the matching jack on the LEFT speaker.
- Connect the power cord to the AC input jack first, and then into the wall outlet.
- Your SpeakEasy 4 can now immediately be used to play music wirelessly from a Bluetooth source after pairing it with that source.
To Connect a Wireless BT Source Device
Press the Volume / Mode button on the front of the RIGHT speaker, and observe
the colour of the Andover logo on the front panel. Repeated press of the knob
will switch through the various inputs. A Blue LED indicates that the BT
receive mode has been selected. You may also select BT from the supplied
remote control.
- SpeakEasy 4 will enter discovery mode automatically when BT is selected, as indicated by a flashing blue icon. If the LED is not flashing, SpeakEasy is already paired with another device. Disconnect that other device to allow SpeakEasy to discover and connect to your new device.
- Enter the Bluetooth menu on your phone or other device and select SpeakEasy 4.
- Once the device indicates it’s “connected”, you are ready to play. SpeakEasy 4 will automatically reconnect whenever the paired source is in range.
Rear Panel Connections
Inputs
- TV ARC – Accepts signals from a TV equipped with HDMI ARC output. TV output must be set to “PCM” in your television’s setup menu.
- PHONO – Connect a turntable equipped with a Magnetic Cartridge and no preamplifier. If your turntable has a built-in preamplifier, switch it to OFF, THRU, PHONO, or BYPASS to use this input.
- GND – Connect the GROUND wire from turntables with a ground screw or wire to reduce hum.
- AUX – Use this input to connect a Turntable that has a built-in Phono preamplifier, the Line-Out from a Record Player, or any Line Level source such as a CD player, Computer, or Streaming Audio accessory delivering SPDIF PCM output.
- DIGITAL – Connect a TOSLINK optical cable from any source equipped with an optical SPDIF digital output. SpeakEasy 4 accepts signals up to 24bit/96k sampling rate. This also may be used if your TV does not have an HDMI ARC output.
- USB POWER – Connect a Flash Drive with MP3 music files for playback or use to supply power to charge your phone or power a low-power audio source such as a streaming audio adapter.
Outputs
- PRE-OUT – Line-level output may be used to drive additional powered speakers or a powered subwoofer.
- TO LEFT CHANNEL – Use the supplied 4-pin DIN cable to send a signal to the left speaker.
Typical Connections/Room Placement
Typical Connection Examples – Phono, TV, and Streaming device
Room Placement
As with any sound system, where you locate the speakers in your room affects
how well the sound fills the space. To ensure the most natural stereo imaging,
try to avoid placing the speakers near hard surfaces to the sides that may
reflect sound prematurely. Leaving space around each speaker will allow the
sound to spread more evenly within the room to create a natural sound field.
- To ensure the most uniform sound coverage, try to place the system near the centre of one of the walls. It should be at or slightly below ear height for a seated listener.
- Place the speakers on a solid table, shelf or sturdy speaker stand.
- Avoid placing the speakers near your turntable to avoid the potential of acoustic feedback, which can cause bloated and muddy bass performance.
- If you experience feedback and cannot separate your speakers sufficiently, we recommend one of the Andover SpinBase series of powered speaker bases with IsoGroove feedback elimination.
Operation
Operating SpeakEasy 4 from the front panel
Press the knob on the front panel to turn the power on. Press and hold the
knob to place the system in STANDBY mode. The LED will go off when on Standby.
Each subsequent press of the knob will switch the input, and the LED will
change colour to indicate which input is selected.
- Phono – White
- Wireless BT – Blue (Flashing Blue means it’s ready to pair)
- Flash Drive (MP3) – Light Blue (If no drive is inserted, this option will be skipped)
- TV – Yellow
- Aux – Green
- Digital – Orange
Operation from the Remote Control
- Install the two AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Observe the proper polarity as shown in the diagram moulded into the housing.
- The remote uses IR technology and must have a direct line of sight to the right speaker. The IR receiver is behind the Andover logo, so be sure not to block the light path. 10 – 12 ft range is typical.
Bluetooth and MP3 file playback
- The Play/Pause FF and REW controls may be used to navigate files on a USB Flash Drive or BT source device.
- MP3 file playback may be selected by pressing the OPT (Optical input) button twice when a Flash Drive is present. Repeated press of the OPT button will toggle between Optical and USB input.
Automatic Power-On Feature
SpeakEasy 4 wakes from Standby when an audio signal is sensed on the input
that was active when the unit entered Standby. To prevent accidental
triggering from random transient signals, it will take a few seconds to turn
on, and will not automatically wake for 5 minutes after it is manually turned
off.
MP3 file playback
- MP3 file playback will initiate when a Flash Drive is inserted or when selected by pressing the front-panel knob. The OPT button on the remote will toggle between USB file playback or the Optical digital input when pressed repeatedly when a Flash Drive is present.
- SpeakEasy 4 will play MP3 encoded files placed in the root directory of a Flash Drive. Formats other than MP3 are not compatible. There is no menu-structure navigation.
LED Night Mode
Invoking Night Mode will eliminate the potential distraction of the LED in
darkened rooms by turning off the LED 5 seconds after any command issued from
the front panel knob or the remote control.
- Press the OPT button on the remote for 5 seconds to enter Night Mode. The LED will flash, and then go off.
- The LED will illuminate for 5 seconds whenever any operation change is made.
- To exit Night Mode, press the OPT button again for 5 seconds.
