Introduction
Thank you for choosing Songbird to access the world of audio entertain-ment available from the Internet.
Songbird delivers high-resolution audio streams from some of the best Internet music sources such as Qobuz, Tidal, and Spotify. As more ser-vices become available, they will be added through updates. In addition, thousands of Internet radio stations may be enjoyed via I-Heart Radio and Tune-in.
Songbird can also access content from any DLNA or AirPlay-compatible device on your network, such as computers, servers, or network storage devices. You can also play content directly from your phone or tablet using AirPlay or Bluetooth. Although some content is free, you will be required to purchase a subscription from the content supplier for specific premium services or advanced features. Configuration of your DLNA device to allow sharing may be required.

System Requirements

  • A WiFi router supporting the 2.4GHz 802.11b/g bands.
  • A Smartphone or Tablet connected to the WiFi network running iOS 9.0 or Android 6.0 or newer.
  • An audio system or powered speaker that accepts line level analog (Aux) or Optical (TOSLINK) digital input.
Setup
  1. Download the Songbird app on iOS App Store for Apple devices, or Google Play for Android.
  2. Plug the OPTICAL OUT or AUX OUT from Songbird into the appropriate input of your audio system. If you are using an An-dover Model-One, we recommend using the OPTICAL OUT from Songbird into the AUX 2 input on Model-One.
  3. Connect Songbird to the 5V DC power adapter using the USB to Mini USB cable. Plug the Power adapter into a wall outlet.
  4. Switch your audio system to the input you used for Songbird and choose a moderate volume in order to hear the voice prompts. Repeatedly press the WPS/INPUT button briefly until the LED next to the button is white.
  5. Press and hold the WPS/INPUT button for 5-7 seconds until the LED flashes quickly. The voice prompt will say “ENTERING SET-UP MODE”. If no action is taken after 35 Seconds, the LED will flash slowly and the action will need to be repeated.
  6. Open your Smartphone’s WiFi menu and look for “Songbird”, or “XRD-Flybox”. Select this as your WiFi Network.
  7. Open the Songbird app and when prompted choose “ADD DEVICE”. Follow the prompts from within the app to complete setup.
  8. When setup is complete, your phone will return to your original WiFi network settings and Songbird will be ready for use.

Basic Operation

Now that Songbird is set up and connected to your network, it will appear in the DEVICE LIST page of the app.

  1. Touch the device icon to enter the CONTROL PAGE for that device.
  2. Touch the upper left corner of the CONTROL PAGE to enter the SOURCE PAGE. Your available sources will appear on this page. Select your source and follow the instructions for that source.
  3. For SPOTIFY, Songbird may be accessed directly from within the Spotify app. Select “Devices Available”, then touch the Available Devices icon on the lower left corner. Select the name you choose during setup on the next page.

Bluetooth Playback

  1. Select “Bluetooth” within the Songbird app, or press the WPS/Input button on Songbird repeatedly until the LED turns Blue.
  2. Go to the Bluetooth menu on your device and choose “Songbird” or “XRD-Flybox”. The device will display “Connected” if successful. Once connected you can play from your device as you would with any Blue-tooth speaker. Some apps may require that you choose the desired Bluetooth device from within the app as well.
If you subsequently wish to connect to a different device, you must first disconnect the original device from Songbird from within that device’s menu.
Multi-Mode Playback

Two or more Songbirds or compatible devices may be linked for synchronized play from Internet sources. Local sources such as Aux or Bluetooth can also be linked to other Songbirds in multi-mode, but they will not be time- synchronized due to the inherent delay of WiFi.
Multi-mode linking instructions appear on the DEVICE LIST page within the app. Pairing and synchronization may take up to 30 seconds, depending on the speed of your local network. The number of devices in a group is limited by the performance of your network, and will vary with individual network utilization. Typical networks will support up to a maximum of 5 units.

Computer Playback
Once connected to your network, Songbird will appear as an output source in the “Sound” menu of your computer’s operating system. Select it to direct computer output to your audio system.
You may also play back files from your computer, or another network share, using the Songbird app under “My Music>Home Music Share” on the SOURCE PAGE. Your computer must be on, with your music library shared, and DLNA compatible music server software active on your computer.

Advanced Features
We believe that you will find the app intuitive and simple for most common operations. Refer to the Andover Audio website at www.andoveraudio.com to see additional instructions for advanced features.
