Understanding the Dangers of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
The PANGAEA RV Propane and Carbon Monoxide Alarm will emit a pre-alarm
signal for CO gas at 50 ppm and activate the alarm signal for CO gas at 100
ppm.
Understanding the Dangers of Propane Gas
- Propane (LP) is commonly used as fuel for heating and cooking appliances. The lower explosive limit (LEL) concentration of propane is 2.1%, or 21,000 ppm (parts per million).
- The PANGAEA RV Propane and Carbon Monoxide Alarm is designed to detect propane as well and will activate an alarm at 1200 ppm, which is equivalent to 5.7% LEL. If the concentration of propane exceeds this threshold, the alarm will activate. However, a reset function can be used to temporarily silence the alarm if needed.
- Propane gas is denser than air and tends to accumulate near the floor. Install your Propane and Carbon Monoxide Alarm near the floor, ideally between 4 to 10 inches (10 ~ 25 cm) above the ground.
Key Features
- Two highly sensitive semiconductor sensors – one for carbon monoxide and the other for propane gas detection.
- The sensors provide a fast response to propane gas and carbon monoxide exposure.
- Large LCD display showing real-time concentrations and error codes.
- Can replace the MTI Safe-T-AlertTM 30-442, 35-742, and CCI controls 7770. 230/231/234/281/284, 7773 .081/231/151/251 series.
- TEST/ button allows for testing and silencing of unwanted triggering.
- 85dB sound notifies occupants of carbon monoxide and propane gas.
- Low power draw (45mA on average).
- Sleek and modern design.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

UNDERSTANDING THE DANGERS OF CARBON MONOXIDE (CO)
- Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colorless, highly poisonous, odorless, tasteless, and flammable gas that is slightly less dense than air.
- CO inhibits the blood’s ability to carry oxygen, which can lead to symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Mild symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue.
- More severe symptoms include confusion, shortness of breath, chest pain, seizures, and loss of consciousness. Prolonged exposure to high levels of CO can cause brain and heart damage, and even death.
- The PANGAEA RV Propane and Carbon Monoxide Alarm will emit a pre-alarm signal for CO gas at 50 ppm and activate the alarm signal for CO gas at 100 ppm.
- If the concentration of propane exceeds this threshold, the alarm will activate. However, a reset function can be used to temporarily silence the alarm if needed.
- Propane gas is denser than air and tends to accumulate near the floor. For this reason, it’s important to install your Propane and Carbon Monoxide Alarm near the floor, ideally between 4 to 10 inches (10 ~ 25 cm) above the ground.
LIMITATIONS
- This alarm requires power to function and will not work without it.
- In some situations, the alarm may not be heard. For example, if people are outdoors, they may not hear the alarm if it’s indoors and the door is closed. Additionally, individuals who are hard of hearing may not hear the alarm at all.
- It’s important to note that this alarm may not detect low levels of CO, and it’s not a suitable device for checking if a workplace follows OSHA safety standards.
- Individuals with medical issues should consider using a different device that emits both sound and light when the level of carbon monoxide in the air is below 30 ppm.
- This alarm is not suitable for installation in hazardous areas as defined by the National Electrical Code.
