Original instructions
Declaration of Conformity
We declare under our sole responsibility: These sanders, identified by type and serial number *1), comply with all relevant requirements of the directives
-
- and standards 3). Technical file at 4) – see page 3.
Specified Use
- The machine is suitable for dry sanding of flat and elliptical surfaces, wood, plastics, non-ferrous metals, sheet metal and similar filled and painted surfaces.
- The user bears sole responsibility for any damage caused by improper use.
- Generally accepted accident prevention regulations and the enclosed safety information must be observed.
General Safety Instructions
For your own protection and for the protection of your power tool, pay
attention to all parts of the text that are marked with this symbol!
WARNING – Reading the operating instructions will reduce the risk of
injury.
WARNING Read all safety warnings and instructions. Failure to follow all
safety warn-ings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or
serious injury.
Keep all safety instructions and information for future reference.
Pass on your electrical tool only together with these documents.
Special Safety Instructions
Dust from material such as paint containing lead, some wood species, minerals
and metal may be harmful. Contact with or inhalation of the dust may cause
allergic reactions and/or respiratory diseases to the operator or bystanders.
Certain kinds of dust are classified as carcinogenic such as oak and beech
dust, especially in conjunction with additives for wood conditioning
(chromate, wood preservative). Material containing asbestos must only be
treated by specialists.
- Use a dust extractor or the dust collection box where possible.
- To achieve a high level of dust collection, use a suit-able Metabo vacuum cleaner together with this tool.
- The work place must be well-ventilated.
- The use of a dust mask of filter class P2 is recommended.
Follow national requirements for the materials you want to work with.
Pull the plug out of the plug socket before any adjustments or servicing are
performed.
Wear ear protectors when working for long periods of time. High noise levels
over a prolonged period of time may affect your hearing.
Materials that generate dusts or vapours that may be harmful to health (e.g.
asbestos) must not be processed.
Secure the workpiece against slipping, e.g. with the help of clamping devices.
Initial Operation
Before plugging in the device, check to see that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency, as specified on the rating label, match your power supply.
Additional handle (removable)
If necessary, you can unscrew the additional handle (1) (right-hand thread).
Installation of sanding disc
Sanding sheet with velcro-type fastening
Simple attachment and removal thanks to the velcro-type fastening. Simply
press on the sanding disc such that the holes in the sanding disc (9) and
sanding plate (11) are aligned.
Sanding sheet without velcro-type fastening
Secure the sanding disc using a clamping element (10). Pull the disc across
the sanding plate (11) so it is taut; then fasten in place with the other
clamping element
Use
On/Off switch, continuous activation
To start the machine, press the trigger (5).
For continuous operation the trigger can be locked with the lock button (4).
To stop the machine, press the trigger (5) again.
Setting oscillating frequency
When the TurboBoost switch (3) is switched off, the oscillating speed can be
set at the setting wheel (2). This is also possible during operation.
Recommended oscillating frequency settings:
Plastic materials:1-2
Metal, Plexiglas®, old coats of paint: 3-4
Coarse and fine sanding, polishing, wood: 5
The best way to determine the ideal setting is through a practical trial.
TurboBoost switch
Actuate the TurboBoost switch (3) during operation to switch on additional
power reserves for maximum material removal rate.
Dust extraction
- To optimise the dust extraction performance, fit the sanding disc such that the holes on the sanding disc (9) and sanding plate (11) are aligned.
- Own extraction system: Fit the dust collection box (6) onto the exhaust nozzle until it engages. To remove it, pull out the dust collection box (6).
- To optimise the extraction performance, empty the dust collection box (6) in good time and clean the filter (8).
- External dust extraction: Fit a suitable dust extractor.TurboBoost switch
- Actuate the TurboBoost switch (3) during operation to switch on additional power reserves for maximum material removal rate.
Cleaning, Maintenance
Empty dust collection box (6).
-
Open cleaning flap (7).
-
Remove fluted filter (8) and knock off dust stuck to filter or remove with brush.
You can also clean fluted filter (8) under running water (but make sure to dry the filter before use!). -
Empty the dust collection box (6), clean it thoroughly and ensure that any remaining dust is removed.
-
When inserting, ensure that the fluted filter (8) is inserted in the lateral guides.
Clean the machine regularly.
- This includes vacuum cleaning the ventilation louvres on the motor.
Replacing worn sanding plate (11)
- Remove fixing screws (on lower side of sanding plate).
- Take off sanding plate.
- Sanding plate (as a spare part), see page 2.
- Mount sanding plate.
- Re-insert the fixing screws on the lower side of the sanding plate (the screw must be inserted in the existing thread pitch) and tighten (tightening torque = 3.5 Nm +/- 0.2 Nm).
Accessories
Use only genuine Metabo accessories.
For a complete range of accessories, see
www.metabo.com or the main catalogue.
Repairs
- Repairs to electrical tools must be carried out by qualified electricians ONLY!
- If the mains connection cable of this machine is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service centre to avoid hazard.
- If you have Metabo electrical tools that require repairs, please contact your Metabo service centre. For addresses see www.metabo.com.
You can download spare parts lists from
www.metabo.com.
Environmental Protection
Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories. Only for EU countries: Never dispose of power tools in your household waste! In accordance with European Guideline 2002/96/EC on used electronic and electric equipment and its implemen-tation in national legal systems, used power tools must be collected separately and handed in for envi-ronmentally compatible recycling.

The technical specifications quoted are subject to tolerances (in compliance
with the relevant valid standards).
Emission values
Using these values, you can estimate the emissions from this power tool and
compare these with the values emitted by other power tools. The actual values
may be higher or lower, depending on the particular application and the
condition of the tool or power tool. In estimating the values, you should also
include work breaks and periods of low use. Based on the estimated emission
values, specify protective measures for the user – for example, any
organisational steps that must be put in place.
Vibration total value (vector sum of three directions) determined in
accordance with EN 60745:
ah = Vibration emission value (surface grinding) Kh = Uncertainty
(vibration)
