Patient Instructions for Clozex® Skin Closures
Clozex® Skin Closures are made of polymeric (plastic) components coated with a pressure sensitive skin adhesive. The device is made to stay in place from 7 to 10 days and then, naturally slough (fall) off your skin. At all times try to keep your wound area protected and dry.
Day 1.
Some tenderness and swelling is common in all wounds, but if you have any
personal concerns, contact your physician’s office. Do not attempt to readjust
the Clozex® device once applied, however you may gently re-attach a corner
that has accidentally been lifted. Follow your doctor’s instructions for cover
dressing changes as follows:
Day 2 and beyond.
- You may take brief showers with your Clozex® device, but try to avoid letting the direct force from the stream of water contact the device. Avoid soaking in a bath, swimming, or use of a hot tub while the device is in place. If your wound is wet, gently pat the area dry with a towel. Do not scrub or soak your wound. If under the treatment of a physician, defer to your physicians’ instructions.
- Avoid activities producing heavy perspiration.
- If a covering bandage/dressing was applied over the Clozex® device, follow your doctor’s instructions regarding removal and replacement.
- Never place adhesive tape directly onto the Clozex® device because removal of the tape may inadvertently remove your device.
- If discomfort increases, or if your wound area is reddened, or is excessively warm to the touch, this may be a sign of infection and you should consult your physician immediately.
- Some discoloration around the outer perimeter of the Clozex® device from exposure to the environment is normal and varies depending on cover dressings used.
Device Removal:
The Clozex® device should be worn for 7 -10 days, or longer, depending on your
physicians’ instructions. At that time the device hold will weaken and should
start to fall off, or can be easily removed. When removing the device from the
skin, gently pull along (parallel to) the length of the incision or
laceration. Never peel the device off across (perpendicular to) the length of
the incision or laceration as this could result in wound edge separation. Wear
and hold time vary depending on patient care, skin location, and skin type.
After device removal, check the wound and consult your physician if there are
any questions.
If under the treatment of a physician, defer to your physicians’ instructions for removal of the Clozex® device.
