Installation Work
Selection of Installation Place
Select a suitable place for handling and get customer approval for the
controller’s installation location. Ensure a distance of more than 50mm
between vertically aligned controllers.
Before Installation
- Remove the controller from the holding bracket.
Installation Procedures
- Install the controller as per the provided guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure proper wiring and connection of the controller.
- Test the controller post-installation to ensure functionality.
- Hand over the product to the customer with usage instructions.

SAFETY SUMMARY
DANGER
- DO NOT pour water into the remote control switch (hereafter called “controller”).
- This product is equipped with electrical parts.
- If poured, it will cause a serious electrical shock.
CAUTION
- DO NOT perform installation work and electrical wiring connection by yourself. Contact your distributor or dealer of Hitachi and ask them for installation work and electrical wiring by a service person.
- DO NOT install the indoor unit, outdoor unit, controller, and cable at such places as;
- Where there is oil vapor and the oil is dispersed
- Where the hot springs are near (in a sulfuric environment)
- Where generation, flowing, staying, or leaking of flammable gas is detected
- Where the sea is near (in the salty environment)
- An acid or alkaline environment
- DO NOT install the indoor unit, outdoor unit, controller, and cable within approximately 3 meters from strong electro-magnetic wave radiators such as medical equipment. In case the controller is installed in a place where there is electromagnetic wave radiation, shield the controller and cables by covering them with the steel box and running the cable through the metal conduit tube.
- In case there is electric noise at the power source for the indoor unit, provide a noise filter.

This manual MUST be handed over to those who undertake the following work.

INSTALLATION WORK
SELECTION OF INSTALLATION PLACE
Select a suitable place for handling and determine the installation place
of the controller with the customer’s acceptance.
Do not install the controller at such places as:
- Where children can touch.
- Where the air from the air conditioner is directly discharged.
Especially in case a Remote Controller thermostat is used, select the installation place in consideration with the following points:
- Where the average room temperature is detectable.
- Where the thermostat is not exposed directly to the sun.
- Where there is no source of heat.
- Where the thermostat is not affected by the outdoor air by opening and closing doors.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
This packing contains the following parts:
- Remote Control Switch (Quantity: 1, for Operation Control).
- Screw
(Quantity: 2, for Fixing the Holding Bracket onto the Wall). - Ring Core (Quantity: 1).
- Band (Quantity: 1, for Fixing Cable to Ring Core).
- Cable with connector (20cm).
INSTALLATION SPACE
- In the case of installing the controllers in a vertical line, keep a distance of more than 50mm between the controllers vertically.
- If the distance is insufficient, the controller can not be taken out.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
- Remove the controller from the holding bracket.
ELECTRICAL WIRING
STANDARD WIRING
CAUTION
- Attach the ring core (black) (accessory) when installing the unit.
- Insert the controller cable into the ring core, 2 turns, as shown in the left figure, before connecting to the terminal board. If the wiring is 0.75 mm2 it is necessary to peel the outside cover.
- Fix the cable by using the band (accessory)
ELECTRICAL WIRING FOR MULTIPLE UNITS
This remote control switch can control sixteen units, as the maximum.
CAUTION
- Use 0.3-0.75 mm2 cable (maximum total cable length 30m). If the total cable length is longer than 30m, use twist pair cable (1P–0.75 mm2)(maximum total cable length 200m). When used with the control timer, (max. total cable length 100m). Using other cables may cause malfunction due to noise.
- Keep a distance of more than 30 cm between the remote control / indoor unit transmission cables and the power wiring.
- If installed within 30 cm, put the cables in a conduit tube and earth (type-D; ≤ 100Ω) at one end of the pipe. Without this procedure, malfunction or failure of the air conditioner due to noise may occur.
- When multiple indoor units are simultaneously controlled, set addresses for the refrigerant cycle and indoor units. Especially when the indoor units from multiple refrigerant cycles are simultaneously controlled, transmission abnormality may occur due to address duplication.
- For more information about wiring remote control switch-indoor units and setting indoor units addresses, see the indoor units “INSTALLATION MANUAL”.
- Do not leave any space at the cable opening of the remote controller case. If there is any space, cover it with, e.g., vinyl tape to avoid trouble caused by dew or insects entering into the controller case.
- To use two remote controllers (main/sub-controllers), follow the procedure in “7 OPTIONAL FUNCTION” to configure the msub-remotemote controllers. Before setting, turn OFF the power of all the indoor units connected to the remote control switch.
Communication cable shall be field-supplied

Twist pair cable 2 x 0,75 mm2 (200m total max. length). -
OPTION 2:
Standard shielded cable 2 x 0,75 mm2 connecting the shield to earth at the electrical box side (200m total max. total length).

- The cables (2×0.75 mm2 twist wire) of different lengths are prepared as an option, which are fitted with connectors.

CHECKING PROCEDURE
- PC-ARH1E doesn’t have Test Run mode.
- The test running shall be performed from the outdoor units.
- Turn ON the power for all the indoor units.
- Models with automatic addressing will take three to five minutes to complete the setting.
- Set the Test Run mode from the outdoor units.
- Cancellation of the Test Run mode
The Test Run mode can be canceled when:
- The Test Run will be finished automatically after two hours of running.
- Cancellation of the Test Run from the outdoor units.
- Stop the Test Run by pressing the Run/Stop switch of the PC-ARH1E.
The total number of the indoor units connected will be indicated on the temperature display.
NOTE
Display indication when one indoor unit is connected
- Example when one unit is connected.
- In case the indicated number of connected units is incorrect, any transmission abnormality due to, an incorrect wiring/addressing or noise may exist. In such a case, turn OFF the power supply and check the following.
NOTE
DO NOT repeat the ON/OFF operation of the main switch within 10 seconds.
- Indoor unit’s power supply does not turn ON, or incorrect wiring
- Incorrect wiring connection between indoor units or remote controllers
- Incorrect setting of rotary switch (overlapped setting)
CAUTION
- PC-ARH1E memorizes Test Run operation mode. The units will start in the Test Run mode if the mode of operation is not changed from the central control equipment which will be used with the unit after the Test Run, or from the remote control switch.
- Change the mode of operation using these devices or refer to “7 OPTIONAL FUNCTION” (H3 Operation Mode Change Restriction –00: Unlimited Operation) after the Test Run.
OPERATION
TOUCHPAD AND LCD DISPLAY
OPERATION MODE (COOLING, HEATING, DRY, COOLING/HEATING AUTOMATIC AND AIRFLOW OPERATION)
Function
- Cooling Operation (COOL): To decrease the room temperature.
- Heating Operation (HEAT): To increase the room temperature.
- Dry Operation (DRY): To decrease the humidity in the room.
- Cooling/Heating Automatic Operation (AUTO): To cooling and heating automatic changeover.
- Airflow Operation (FAN): To circulate the air in the room.
Before Operation
CAUTION
- Turn ON the power supply for the air conditioner.
- To protect the compressor unit, the power supply should be energized 12 hours before the startup operation is begun.
- Do not turn OFF the power supply during in-season heating or cooling operation.
- Make sure that the outdoor unit is always free of ice and snow. If snow is covered, remove it by using hot water (cooler than 50oC). If the water temperature is higher than 50oC, it will damage plastic parts.
By pressing “Mode”, the operation mode will be adjusted as follows.
NOTE
The advanced setting is required for the “AUTO” operation mode. Contact your
distributor or dealer for detailed information.
AUTOMATIC COOLING/HEATING OPERATION
- In case a dual setpoint is selected in automatic cooling/heating operation, during auto mode both cooling setpoint and heating setpoint can be selected.
- Automatically and according to the indoor temperature the mode changes as follows:
- when the mode is in cooling, the mode is changed to heating if the indoor temperature is the “heating setpoint” -1°C.
- when the mode is in heating, the mode is changed to cooling if the indoor temperature is the “cooling setpoint” +1°C.
NOTE
- In the case of AUTO COOL indication.
- By pressing “Mode”, the operation mode will be adjusted as follows.
NOTE
- For Auto COOL/HEAT, though the temperature indication on display changes by pressing “Mode”, the actual operation mode remains “AUTO” and it does not change between AUTO COOL and AUTO HEAT.
- Advanced configuration is needed for the use of automatic cooling/heating operation and changing AUTO HEAT/COOL temperature.
- Contact your distributor or dealer for detailed information.
SETTING METHOD
Temperature Setting
- By pressing “Temp ˄ ”, the temperature is increased by 0.5°C (Max. 30°C).
- By pressing “ ˅ Temp”, the temperature is decreased by 0.5°C.
- Cooling, Dry, Airflow operation: Min. 19°C
- Heating operation: Min. 17°C
NOTE
Minimum and maximum temperature levels can be adjusted by setting the lower
limit (set temperature for cooling) and the upper limit (set temperature for
heating) from the function selection.
Fan Speed
By pressing “Fan”, the fan speed will be adjusted as follows.
NOTE
- During the dry operation, the fan speed is automatically adjusted to “LOW ” and cannot be changed to another fan speed. (“LOW ” will NOT be displayed on the LCD (liquid crystal display) at this time. The present setting condition will be displayed on the LCD.)
- The fan speed settings “HIGH2” and (or) “AUTO” might not be available depending on the type of indoor unit.
Swing Louver Direction
By pressing “Louver”, the louver direction will be adjusted as follows.
The Auto-swing operation will start. At this time, the louver graphic will swing repeatedly on the LCD.
NOTE
- The airflow angle is different for each indoor unit type. Check for detailed information in the “Swing Louver Direction” of each operation manual for the indoor units.
- Louver action as depicted on the LCD might not mimic the actual movement of the louver during the auto-swing operation. To adjust the louver position, first set the angle new angle on the LCD.
- Louver action might not stop immediately after the switch is pressed.
OPERATION START
- Press “On/Off”.
- The run indicator will be turned ON and the operation will initiate.
NOTE
Temperature/Airflow Setting:
The setting condition will be entered into memory once the setting is confirmed, therefore a daily setting is not required. In cases where a change of setting is required, refer to items “5.2 Operation Mode (Cooling, Heating, Dry, Cooling/Heating Automatic and Airflow Operation)” and “5.4.1 Temperature Setting”
OPERATION STOP
- Press “On/Off” again.
- The run indicator will shut OFF and the operation will be halted.
OTHER INDICATORS
IN NORMAL CONDITIONS
Central Control
- The “ ” means turned ON.
- In case the prohibiting operation by the controller is set from the central controller, operation, temperature setting, fan speed, and directsettingsting are not available from the controller.
Thermo-controller
The fan speed is changed to “LOW ” at the thermo-controller switch. However,
the graphic indication remains unchanged. (Only in the heating operation
mode.)
Defrost
Defrost Operation
- The “ • ” is turned ON during the defrosting.
- The indoor fan is stopped although the graphic indication is unchanged.
- The louver is fixed at the horizontal position.
- The graphic louver symbol on the LCD remains animated.
Operation Stoppage during Defrosting Operation
- The RUN LED (Green) goes out when the operation is stopped during defrosting.
- However, the operation continues with the “ • ” displayed, and the unit stops after the defrost operation is finished.
Operation Control
Supplying Electrical Power
- The “ • ” is activated when electrical power is turned ON.
- In this case, the compressor is now in the preheat stage. The operation might be delayed by a maximum of four hours. Do not cut power to the outdoor unit during seasonal heating and cooling operations.
During Hot Start (Heating Operation Only)
The “ • ” is turned ON.
Different Operation Mode
- The operation mode set by the controller is different from the outdoor unit operation mode.
- (Except for the heat recovery system models.)
- The operation mode indicator will flash.
- This indicator will flash when a command to COOL has been set by way of the controller during a HEATING operation.
Setback Operation
In case the setback operation is enabled and the card key is removed, the
setpoint is compensated and the fan operates at a “Low” speed. While in
setback mode, the boundary lines on the screen disappear.
By default,
- Cooling: Setpoint +2.5°C
- Heating: Setpoint -2.5°C
NOTE
Advanced configuration is needed for the use of setback operation and changing
compensation for setbacks. Contact your distributor or dealer for detailed
information.
IN ABNORMAL CONDITIONS
Abnormality
- The RUN LED (Red) is flashing.
- The indoor unit number, alarm code, model code, and the connected number of indoor units are displayed on the LCD.
- In cases where several indoor units are connected, the above items for each indoor unit are displayed one by one.
Power Failure
- All indicators are DARk.
- Once a unit is shut down by a power failure, it cannot be restarted after the power recovers. Repeat starting procedures again.
- In instances where the power failure and recovery are instantaneous, the unit will restart automatically.
Electronic Interference
For instance, if a unit is in a shutdown state and all indicators are OFF,
this condition could have been induced by the reaction of the unit’s micro-
computer fail-safe protections against electronic interference (EMI). If this
is the case, perform restart procedures.
OPTIONAL FUNCTION
- Press and hold “∇ ” for “Temp” and “Fan” simultaneously for at least three seconds during the normal mode (when the unit is not operated).
- Select the optional mode by pressing “∇ ” or “Δ ” for “Temp” and press “Fan”.
- Select the indoor unit by pressing “∇ ” or “Δ ” for “Temp” and press “Fan”. (This screen is NOT displayed when there is only one indoor unit connected with the controller. In this case, (4) will be displayed.)
- Press “∇ ” or “Δ ” for “Temp” and select the item.
- Press “Fan” and change the setting.
- Press “∇ ” and “Δ ” for “Temp” simultaneously to return to the normal mode.
