Installation Instructions:
Step 1 Park on a level surface, allow the vehicle to cool. Lift the
motorcycle onto its center stand if available.
Step 2 Open the saddlebags and remove side covers below the seat by
pulling away from the motorcycle with steady pressure.
Step 3 Remove the seat by removing the socket head screws under the front
of the seat shown in Fig.1. Pull up on the front of the seat and slide
forward.
Step 4 Install Goldstrike™ P/N 48000 (sold separately). Plug in both
Goldstrike Saddlebag Side Lights to familiarize yourself with connector
locations, the lights, and how they function. Unplug the lights and set them
aside.
Step 5 Starting with one side of the motorcycle at a time, remove the
saddlebag latch hooks, Fig.2 (A). Set them aside for re-installation.
Step 6 Remove the bottom fastener from the support cable, Fig.2(B). Use a
small flathead screwdriver to undo the bottom pivot on the gas shock. Set them
aside for re-installation.
Step 7 Place a blanket on a work surface so you have a place to set the
panel. Remove the painted outer panel by removing the 10 Phillips head screws,
Fig.2(C). Set the screws aside for re-installation. Set the panel on the
blanket.
Step 8 Remove
the black plastic panel from the painted panel. Start at the front of the part
and push out the screw bosses, then pop out the rear screw bosses. Now pull
the two panels apart. It will take some force.
Step 9 Remove the reflector. Set the nut aside for re-installation.
Step 10 Use a “step drill” to create a 5/8” (16mm) hole through the black
panel. Use the reflector alignment pin hole as a guide. Fig.3 (A) and Fig.4.
Step 11 Use a “step drill” to create a 5/8” (16mm) hole
through the painted panel, using the rear dimple as a guide. Fig.5 and Fig.6.
Clean off any excess flashing from drilling by inspecting the backside of the
panel. Lightly run the “step drill” over it to remove sharp edges.
Step 12 Install the Goldstrike Saddlebag Side Light onto the black panel
using the nut from Step 9, Fig.3(B), and route the wire through the drilled
hole, Fig.3(A).
Step 13 Assemble the black panel and painted panel, routing the wire
through the drilled hole. Reinstall the assembly on the motorcycle
Step 14 Route the wire under the saddlebag and over the top of the
mufflerClean the mounting surface with an ammonia based cleaner and install a
cable tie mount. Capture the wire with a cable tie. Do not over tighten the
cable tie. Fig.8
Step 15 Push the wire up along the saddlebag frame, between the saddle
bag and the inner fender. The wire will come out under the seat, between the
sub frame and inner fender. Fig.9
Step 16 Repeat steps 5 – 15 on the other side.
Step 17 Plug the connectors into the Goldstrike™ Rear Lighting Harness,
matching the color of the wires to the correct side. Fig.10
Step 18 Test the lights for run and turn functions.
Step 19 Tuck the wires towards the rear fender so they will not be
pinched by the seat.
Step 20 Re-install the side covers, seat, and any other parts removed
during installation.
