UpDown Desk Metal Drawer Installation Guide

Congratulations on the purchase of your new UpDown Desk Metal drawer!

The drawer is a very handy accessory to keep your documents and belongings at the same height you sit or stand. Furthermore, the space above the drawer is large enough to fit most laptops! It’s of steel construction with a powder coated surface and looks great with any of our desktop offerings.

UpDown Desk Metal Drawer - overview

Contained within the box are the following:

  • Metal drawer
  • 4 x self‐tapping screws
  • Set of keys

Tools required:

  • Phillips head screwdriver, medium size and with a long shaft (not supplied).
  • NOTE: a Power Drill with PH2 driver bit is ideal for this job if available (not supplied).

(01) Positioning

  • Installation on a 75cm deep desktop should result in the metal drawer face sitting approximately flush with the front edge of the desktop when viewed from above (only the handle will protrude). Naturally, it will protrude slightly more or less if your desktop is deeper or shallower.
  • Providing all 4 self‐tapping screws are utilised and screwed through the drawer screw holes into solid desktop material, there are no real constraints as to which lateral location you position the drawer (far LHS, far RHS or anywhere in between).

You can even position the drawer so that the ‘wing’ from the frame sits within the open space of the metal drawer (example shown below).

(02) Installation

  • Once you have determined the lateral location of the metal drawer, it can now be installed.
  • This can be done either upside down when you’re assembling your desk (this is easiest) or retrofitting it when the desk is the right way up (you may need someone to help hold the drawer in place).
  • It’s imperative that the desk legs are in the fully contracted position (i.e. the desk should be fully lowered if you’re retrofitting to the desk).

You must allow at least a 5mm gap between the back of the drawer and the contracted (fully lowered) leg. WARNING: Failing to leave a 5mm gap as indicated (see below photo) can lead to interference during desk lowering which may damage the desk frame, metal drawer or both.

  • Once in position, use all 4 screws to attach the drawer to the desktop. The self‐tapping screws are typically sharp enough to allow you to use a hand screwdriver to screw firmly into the desktop with a reasonable level of force. If you find this difficult, you may benefit from using a power drill.

(03) Notes

  • The drawer runners of the metal drawer are typically firm and have been designed this way. They will loosen over time however.
  • Should you need to remove the drawer from the runners, this can be achieved by activating the levers on both runners. One side you will need to push down, the other side push up at the same time; the drawer will slide right out.
