Device Overview
The teleDoorSensor-2L is a wireless device designed to detect the opening and closing of doors. It consists of a sensor and a magnet, operating based on the distance between them. The device sends information to the server when there is a change in the door status. -
Pairing with teleRelay2L
To use the device for initiating actions on other devices, such as turning on/off lights or alarms, it needs to be paired with a teleRelay2L device using the Telethings IoT Cloud platform. -
Working Principle
The device is activated when the connection between the sensor and magnet is established or broken. It remains in idle state until a door open/close event occurs, making it a low-power device. Data is sent to the server after detecting a change in door status, with a minimum delay of 6 seconds between transfers. -
Data Protocol
The data packages sent by the teleDoorSensor-2L include information about door openings/closings and are encrypted using AES128. Communication with the server is essential for data transfer, with an LED indicator confirming successful transmission.
FAQ
-
Q: How do I know if the device is functioning correctly?

BASIC INFORMATION
- teleDoorSensor-2L are wireless devices designed to detect the opening and closing of doors. The device consists of a sensor and a magnet. Therefore, door opening/closing detection is performed based on the distance between the sensor and the magnet.
- The device sends new information to the server when the door status changes, provided that at least 6 seconds have passed since the previous data transfer. Also, the device sends information about the total number of door openings and closings that occurred in the period before the data was transferred to the server. There is an LED indicator on the device that is activated when the data is successfully transferred.
- This device can be used to initiate actions on another device, such as turning on/off a light bulb, alarm, etc. To use the device for these purposes, it needs to be paired with a teleRelay-2L device using the Telethings IoT Cloud platform.

WORK PRINCIPLE OF THE DEVICE
- The device is brought into active mode by initiating an event on the sensor, i.e., when the connection between the sensor and the magnet is established or broken. Since batteries are used to power the device, the device remains in idle state until the door is opened or closed. According to that, this is low-power device.
- After the device detects a change in the door status, the data is sent to the server provided that at least 6 seconds have passed since the previous data transfer. The data transferred to the server are as follows:
- the total number of door closings that occurred before the data was sent to the server
- the total number of door openings that occurred before the data was sent to the server
- door status (open or closed)
- So, the device records any change in the door status before transmitting data to the server to prevent data loss. After the successful transfer of data to the server, the LED indicator on the device is briefly activated.
ADD DEVICE TO TELETHINGS IOT CLOUD, MANAGE AND MONITOR DATA
- First of all, it is necessary to log in a https://iot.telethings.com/home . If a user account has not been created, then you must first register on Telethings IoT Cloud at the following link https://iot.telethings.com/signup and activate your profile by clicking on the link received in your e-mail.
- If user does not have any device on his profile, after signing in, the Home Dashboard opens as shown in Figure 4. Click on the Claim Device option and click on the QR Code Scanner icon. After that, the camera is activated and the QR code should be scanned.
- A corresponding message about the success of the device claim will be displayed after scanning the QR code. Considering that the device claim was successful, new option with the name of device type (e.g. teleDoorSensor) appears as shown in Figure 5. Of course, it is still possible to claim new devices by clicking on the Claim Device option and repeating the previously explained procedure.
- By clicking on teleDoorSensor option, the teleDoorSensor Device List is opened. In that device list, there is an option to rename the device, adjust its settings, and an option to enable/disable paired relay control, as shown in Figure 6. Also, in the teleDoorSensor device list, there is the current door status and relay control status for each device.
- To adjust the settings of a specific device, click on the Settings button and dashboard for adjusting the device settings with the widgets shown in Figure 7 will open.
- On the teleDoorSensor Settings dashboard, there is a device name and a widget to pair the teleDoorSensor with a specific relay device with the following options:
- ACTIVATE ON DOOR STATE option defines the status of the door (open/closed) on which the relay is activated
- MODE option is intended for adjusting the functionality of each relay output on the relay device. The MODE option can have the following values:
- ON is used to activate the selected relay output.
- DELAY ON is used to activate the selected relay output for the time interval set in the TIMER column. After the set time interval has expired, the selected relay output is deactivated.
- RELAY OUTPUT option represents number of the relay output on the relay device
- TIMER represents an additional option in case the DELAY ON value is selected for the MODE option. The TIMER option is used to enter the value of the time interval in minutes to maintain the selected state. This time interval can be between 1-60 minutes.
- In order to save the selected settings, it is necessary to press the Save button. All settings for the device can be reset by pressing the Reset button, where the reset settings are automatically saved and relay control based on door status is disabled.
- To receive notifications by email when the status of the door changes, it is necessary to check the option in the ENABLE/DISABLE EMAIL SENDING widget. The email contains information about the total number of door openings and closings before data transmission, as well as information about the current door status for a specific device.
- To enable or disable control of the paired relay output, you need to click on the Enable/Disable Relay Control option in the list of teleDoorSensor devices. After that, a window shown in Figure 8 will open. To enable the control of the paired relay output, it is necessary to check the Enable option.
- By clicking on the device whose data you want to read, the dashboard shown in Figure 9 will open. The dashboard contains the followings widgets:
- DOOR STATUS widget is intended to display the current state of the door.
- DATA LOG widget is intended to display the date and time when the data was sent to the server, the total number of door closings/openings and the current door status.
DATA PROTOCOL
If you are using your own server, you need to know data protocol, i.e. data packages and communication flow. First of all, it is necessary to create an application on the server and add the device using the appropriate keys. If the server application is created and the device is added to it, then the device can be turned on and the JOIN procedure can be started. Once the device is successfully JOINED to the server, it can start sending and receiving messages to/from the server.
teleDoorSensor-2L Data Packages
- The data package that teleDoorSensor-2L sends to the server has the following format:
< total_num_of_door_openings> - total_num_of_door_closings represents the total number of door closings before data transfer to the server.
- total_num_of_door_openings represents the total number of door openings before data transfer to the server.
- current_door_status represents the current door status
DATA | PORT NUMBER | DATA SIZE IN BYTES | PACKAGE OFFSET |
---|---|---|---|
total_num_of_door_closings | 100 | 1 | 0 |
total_num_of_door_openings | 1 | 1 | |
current_door_status | 1 | 2 |

Communication Flow
teleDoorSensor-2L device communicates with the server when the door status
changes, provided that at least 6 seconds have passed since the previous data
transmission.
NOTE:
If your own server is used, then it is not possible to use the Telething IoT
Cloud shown in the previous chapter. In this case, scan the QR code on the
device and send us an email with the device’s serial number so that we can
send you the device EUI and application key.
