Safety Instructions for Spray Guns
-
The device may not be used in workplaces covered by the explosion-protection regulations.
-
There must be no sources of ignition such as, for example, open fire, smoke of lit cigarettes, cigars and tobacco pipes, sparks, glowing wires, hot surfaces, etc. in the vicinity during spraying.
-
Do not spray any substances whose hazard potential is not known.
-
Before working on the spray gun remove the power plug from the socket.
-
Do not use the gun to spray flammable materials.
-
The spray guns are not to be cleaned with flammable solvents.
-
Caution against dangers that can arise from the sprayed substance and observe the text and information on the containers or the specifications given by the substance manufacturer.
-
Caution! Wear breathing equipment: Paint mist and solvent vapors are damaging to health. Always wear breathing equipment and only work in well ventilated rooms or using supplementary ventilating equipment. It is advisable to wear working clothing, safety glasses, ear protection and gloves.
CAUTION: DANGER OF INJURY!
Never point the spray stream towards human beings or animals.
Sockets and plugs must be masked. Risk of an electric shock as a consequence of sprayed material entering the socket!
Attention! Never operate the device if the nozzle seal is either damaged or missing. If the nozzle seal is either missing or damaged liquids can enter the device and increase the risk of an electric shock. Check the nozzle seal before each use. -
When working indoors as well as outdoors ensure that no solvent vapors are sucked in by the spray gun.
-
When working outdoors, be aware of the wind direction. Wind can carry the coating substance across greater distances – thus causing damage. When working indoors, provide for adequate ventilation.
-
Do not let children handle the device.
-
Never open the device yourself in order to carry out repairs in the electrical system!
-
Do not lay the spray gun. With original Garden Joy accessories and spare parts, you have the guarantee that all safety regulations are fulfilled.

Start-Up
Before connecting to the mains supply, be sure that the supply voltage is identical with the value given on the rating plate.
-
Unscrew the container from the spray gun.
-
Warning! Before any spraying , please always do a test to make sure the paint thickness meets your requirement. It is advisable to test the spray gun on cardboard or a similar surface to find the correct setting.
-
Aligning suction tube. If the suction tube is positioned correctly, the container contents can be sprayed without almost any residue. When working on lying objects: Turn the suction tube forwards. (Fig. 2a) Spraying work when working on overhead objects: Turn the suction tube rearwards.(Fig. 2b)
-
Set the container on a sheet of paper, pour in the prepared coating material and screw the container tightly onto the spray gun.
-
Connect the front part with the rear part of the gun (Fig. 3).
-
Put the machine down only on a level, clean surface. Otherwise the machine could tip over!
Adjusting the desired Spray Setting
The spray pattern shape is adjusted by turning the ears of the air cap to either the vertical, horizontal or diagonal positions. The positions of the air cap and the corresponding spray pattern shapes are illustrated below. Test each pattern and use whichever pattern is suitable for your application.
****never trigger the gun while adjusting the ears on the air cap. NEVER point the spray gun at any part of the body.
Material Flow Adjustment
Set the material volume by turning the regulator on the trigger of the spray gun. Proper Spraying Technique If spraying with an HVLP spray system is new or unfamiliar to you, it is advisable to practice on a piece of scrap wood or cardboard before beginning on your intended work piece. Surface Preparation All objects to be sprayed should be thoroughly cleaned before spraying material on them. Areas not to be sprayed may, in certain cases, need to be masked or covered.
Flexible Flow Control
(+)Turn clockwise for more flow
(-) Turn counterclockwise for less flow
The width of the spray paint can be adjusted by turning the side switch.

How to Spray Properly
Spray Area Preparation The spray area must be clean and free of dust in order to avoid blowing dust onto your freshly sprayed surface.
- Partially pulling the trigger will start the turbine, but no material will spray until the trigger is pulled fully. It is recommended that the trigger first be pulled partially in order to start the turbine before a spray pass is made.
- Position the spray gun perpendicular to and one or more inches from the spray surface, depending upon the spray pattern size desired.
- Spray parallel to the surface with smooth passes at a consistent speed as illustrated below. Doing this will help avoid irregularities in the finish (i. e. runs and sags).
- Always apply a thin coat of material on the first pass and allow to dry before applying a second, slightly heavier coat.
- The closer your sprayer is to the object being sprayed the lower the overspray.
When spraying, always trigger the spray gun after spray pass has begun and release trigger before stopping the pass. Always keep the gun pointed squarely at the spray surface and overlap passes slightly to obtain the most consistent and professional finish possible.
Taking Out of Operation and Cleaning
- Unplug the power cord. Loosen the material container by 1/2 turn, but do not remove it. This will relieve any pressure left over in the system. Pull the trigger so that the material inside the spray nozzle drains back into the container.
- Unscrew the container and remove. Empty any remaining material back into the material container.
- Pour a small amount of the appropriate cleaning solution into the cup (Water=1/2 full. Mineral spirits=1/4 full).
- Attach the cup to the nozzle and plug in the sprayer.
- Spray the cleaning solution into a safe area. While spraying, gently shake the spray gun. This slight agitation will help break up smaller particles of spray material.
- Unplug the power cord. Loosen the material container by 1/2 turn, but do not remove it. This will relieve any pressure left over in the system. Pull the trigger so that the material inside the spray nozzle drains back into the container.
important: If you cleaned the sprayer using mineral spirits, repeat steps 1-6 using warm, soapy water.
To Clean the Nozzle
- Make sure power cord is unplugged. Push the tab below the trigger, twist and separate the spray gun from the turbine.
- Wipe the exterior of the cup and gun until clean.
- Unscrew the nut and remove the air cap and nozzle.
- Remove the parts as shown*. Clean all parts with a cleaning brush and the appropriate cleaning solution. Reassemble all parts when clean** (see “Nozzle Seal”).
- Clean the rear of the gun (d) with the appropriate cleaning solution. Use a thin layer of petroleum jelly to lubricate the O-ring (c).Reassemble the spray gun.
Nozzle Seal
The red nozzle seal may become stuck inside the nozzle when the nozzle is removed. If this occurs, make sure to pull it out.
It is important that the nozzle seal inside the nozzle be re-installed properly. Make sure the cup side of the seal (the side with the groove) is facing out towards the front of the nozzle. Improper installation will cause leakage and damage to the turbine.
Cleaning the Filters
Important: Before every use, you should inspect the air filters in the turbine to see if they are excessively dirty. If they are dirty, follow these steps to replace it.
Important: Never operate your unit without the air filters. Dirt could be sucked in and interfere with the function of the unit.
- Unplug the spray gun. Remove the filter cover from the turbine by removing the two screws holding it in place.
- Remove the dirty filters and replace with new ones. The smooth side of the air filter must be placed toward the turbine.
- Secure the cover back onto the turbine.
