UV (ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT) TEST FOR US CURRENCY:
IMPORTANT: This test is for US notes $5 and higher printed 1996 and
after, There are no UV markings on the $1 bills or older currency!
Locate the toggle switch on the right side of the unit and press forward.
Place the bill on the white platter, making sure the auto-sensor is covered.
Placing the bill on the platter will automatically activate the UV light bar
on top. With genuine US currency, you will notice the security strip
illuminated in the proper location and color. The graphic strip located just
below the platter on the front of your Tri- Test shows location and color for
each denomination. If you cannot locate the stripe, or the stripe is the wrong
color or location, the bill may be counterfeit.
IMPORTANT: Please note that on the $100 bill, the pink stripe can be extremely faint, especially in bright ambient light. If you cannot locate the stripe, it is important to do the other 2 test.
WATERMARK PORTRAIT / STRIPE MICRO-PRINT TEST FOR US CURRENCY:
IMPORTANT:
This test is for US notes $5 and higher printed 1996 and after, There are no watermark portraits or security stripes on $1 bills or older currency! After you’ve completed the UV Test described above, flip the toggle switch in the other direction, which will illuminate the platter area of the Tri-Test. On the right side of the bills, you will see a watermark portrait appear, which should mirror the portrait in the center of the bill. The only exception is the newest $5 bill printed 2006 and later. On those bills, the watermark is a large number 5. Also note that printing will appear where the security stripe is located. The print is quite small, but clearly visible, and indicates the bill denomination. When you remove the bill, the light will automatically turn off.
PAPER TEST FOR US CURRENCY:
IMPORTANT: US currency is printed on special paper. This is true of all
US paper money printed 1959 and after, so this test works on all but the
oldest bills
Remove the Counterfeit Detector Pen located in a slot on the right side of the
Tri-Test. The pen contains a special fluid which authenticates US currency
paper. Make a small mark on the face of the bill. If the mark is light gold
or yellow, the bill passes this test. If the mark turns dark brown or
black, the bill could be counterfeit. Be sure to re-cap and replace the pen
after use. Leaving the cap off for more than a few moments can lead to false
readings.
PEN REPLACEMENT: When your pen runs out of fluid use only the authentic
original Dri Mark smart money counterfeit detector pen to replace.
Available at most office supply stores. Beware of imitation products.
CAUTION: AVOID CONTACT OF PEN FLUID WITH SKIN, EYES, AND CLOTHING.
