FAQ
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED light therapy is known by many different names: photo biomodulation
therapy, laser therapy, and low-level laser therapy. More specific terms
include red light therapy, infrared therapy, and blue light therapy. As
described by the color range, the wavelengths of the spectrum can reach
different depths within the skin, resulting in different effects.
What is Red Light Therapy?
A form of LED light therapy, red light therapy is a therapeutic treatment that
uses specific red light waves produced by LEDs to penetrate the skin in a non-
invasive manner. The mitochondria in the body’s skin cells absorb the red
light to create energy, which experts believe helps with cellular repair and
health. Red light therapy does not damage your skin tissue like laser therapy
does.
Is red light therapy safe? Are there any side effects?
Red light therapy is a scientifically and clinically proven safe and effective
complementary treatment option. Unlike UV light, which causes premature skin
aging and even skin cancer, non-UV red light devices have little risk of side
effects. For best results, choose an FDA-approved device and follow the
manufacturer’s recommendations on how to use it safely and effectively.
If you are unsure about this or are photosensitive and have used topical
photosensitiser medications, consult with and be guided by your appropriate
physician in your choice of use.
What are the benefits of the red light therapy?
Researches shows that the continuous and long-term use of LED red light
therapy can be effective in helping a variety of skin and health conditions,
including:
- Anti-aging: Red light therapy is an anti-aging treatment that reduces wrinkles and delays other signs of aging.
- Scar Fading: Red light therapy can also be used to reduce scarring by reducing inflammation and supporting tissue regeneration.
- Pain Therapy: A combination of red light and infrared light therapy is an effective, natural form of pain relief for those suffering from nerve or muscle pain.
- Muscle Recovery: When combined with infrared light therapy, red light therapy can help accelerate muscle recovery and promote healing.
How long does it take for red light therapy to work?
Like most skincare products, the effects of red light therapy take time. Each
device has its own recommended usage time. Even so, the corresponding
improvement will be slight. With consistent daily use, you can expect to see
results in 10 to 12 weeks.
Can it be used by children, pregnant women or while taking medication?
Clinical studies have shown that red light therapy is relatively safe, but we
do not have much research data on children, pregnant women, breastfeeding and
taking photosensitisers. For prudent considerations, we recommend you consult
your doctor in the above scenario, to see if it is suitable for you. In
addition, all children using it should be supervised by adults.
Can it be used by people with damaged skin?
As described in the benefits of red light therapy, red light therapy is able
to accelerate the healing of damaged tissues. At the same time, in order to
avoid discomfort to the first injury, it is recommended to use low power with
a longer period of time in the early stage to avoid the high heat brought by
high power at the same time.
Does near-infrared (NIR) LEDs not work?
NIR is just a wavelength beyond the visible spectrum and is invisible to the
naked eye in normal environments. It is only a faint red dot at most that can
be seen within darker environments. In fact, it can provide a lot of energy.
Please feel free to use our devices, as they work exactly as designed.
Red light therapy can help relieve bothersome skin conditions and muscle pains
in the comfort of your own home. Our LED devices are FDA-approved. Please feel
free to use them with confidence. OPOVE is committed to providing innovative
and affordable solutions that meet our customers’ expectations.
Photo biomodulation Guidance
If you need a convenient and effective light therapy (phototherapy) treatment, it requires:
- Reasonable wavelength;
- Ideal power density;
- The ability that can be applied to more areas of the body at once;
- Appropriate usage time.
What kind of wavelengths do we need?
The “optical window” of the skin usually defines the range of wavelengths from
600 to 1100 nanometre (nm) where light has its maximum depth of penetration in
tissue.
That’s the reason why we use red light and NIR for photo biomodulation (PBM).
Generally, the red light has the shallower penetrating power, and the NIR can
reach deeper tissues. This makes the red light more suitable for skin care,
and the NIR is more for deep tissues like muscles and brain, etc.
The Red light and NIR are complementary and synergistic. Different
penetrations and absorption can enhance the using effect.
What power do we need?
As with most descriptions in red light therapy, power is very important.
However, excessive power will cause tissue heating or burns. It is probably insecure and unrealistic to use such big power to reach deeper tissue.
Most researches indicate the optimal use for red light and NIR therapy is 20-200mW/cm2 (energy density) from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
Adherence to this range and target dose allows for more appropriate use. Of course, the higher power doesn’t lead to a better effect. Long-term use of low-intensity red light therapy can be the ideal way sometimes. Thus, we have four different levels(L 1-L4) to control the power.
In order to avoid tissue heating or skin injury, we apply the pulse mode. Pulsing is typically a rapid “on” and “off” of a device. Continuous use can reach the peak intensity, to attain a bigger penetrating power.
The research shows that pulsing seems to be more beneficial to the metabolism of human dermal cells during wound healing.
Chronic or too repetitive doses will cross to inhibitory effects in accordance with the biphasic dose response. Generally, we hope it can be kept in a beneficial range in the so-called stimulus response.
While there still is a lot we need to learn about proper dosing protocols, it is clear that daily usage of low intensity red light therapy can be the ideal way to do treatments. If you are short on time or do higher intensity, then perhaps only 2-3 times a week is sufficient. Typically for only severe or acute issues would do treatments more than once a day. Healthy young individuals should consider lower doses and longer dose intervals to avoid a biphasic dose response.
As the studies we know about, it is a story of moderation with dosing red light therapy. This time we need to consider how red light therapy affects us across multiple doses with long-term usage. We don’t always give you an exact prescription, but these are important mechanisms to be aware of so you can customize your dose to make red light therapy work for you.

How to use OPOVE red light device?
- Before using the device for the first time, please use the included USB-C power cord with the 5V/2A adapter to fully charge the device (the red light flashes during charging and turns to blue when fully charged).
- Press and hold the power switch for 2 seconds to turn on the device. The device enters ALL Mode by default and the screen shows ALL (ALL Mode: 660nm+850nm LEDs on at the same time, and the default timer turns off after 10 minutes in ALL Mode).
- Press the level adjustment button to adjust the power level. It’s a L 1-L4 cycle.
- Press the mode adjustment button to switch the operation mode. There are four modes: ALL/660nm/850nm/1 0Hz pulse.
- Press the timing adjustment button to adjust the timer according to the requirements (10-20-30 minutes).
- Press and hold the power switch for 2 seconds to turn off the device, or the device will turn off automatically after the timer ends. You can reboot the device if needed.
Note:
The display screen will automatically turn to the timer after 5 seconds
without operation. The screen will go off if there is still no operation for 5
seconds. The power indicator remains lit, and the device is still working.
The power controller can light up the screen by pressing any button when the
screen goes off, and press the certain button to view the current mode.
The average running time of the device is 1-5 hours, depending on the level
you use. Charging time is about 2 hours.
The power indicator turns red when the remaining power is about 20%. Please
charge the device in time. This device cannot be used during charging.
Fully charge the device before the long-term non-use to protect the battery.
Daily Maintenance
Considering that the device will generate a lot of heat energy during working. It will lead to sweat in prolonged contact with human skin. In order to facilitate cleaning and avoid the erosion of LEDs by sweat, the device has a surface protection and removable design for this purpose.
You can simply wipe the TPU surface with a towel after use, or remove the LEDs panel through the DC port and give the belt a simple drying (please note that the LEDs panel is not allowed to access water).
