Installation & Operating Instructions

General Information

These instructions should be read carefully and retained for further reference and maintenance.

Safety

• Do not plug in any appliance that exceeds the capacity of the Timer.
• Always ensure the plug of any appliance is fully inserted into the timer outlet.
• If cleaning of the timer is required, remove from mains power and wipe timer with a dry cloth.
• Do not immerse in water or any other liquid.
• For indoor use only.

Charging Battery and Resetting

• Plug the TG77 into a live socket for 4 hours to fully charge the battery, in order to bring the display ON (if blank).
• Press reset button, marked ‘R’ on diagram A, using a pointed object (e.g. a pencil). The display will show its full set of characters and clear to show; Note: The colon between hours and minutes will flash and the seconds begin to advance.

Setting the Time and Current Day
Note: This device has a 5 second ‘time-out’ feature. Once you start programming, if you leave the device for more than 5 seconds without pressing a button, the device will think you have finished and will automatically return back to normal operating mode. The example time and day used here is Wednesday at 10:00 o’clock.

•  Press and hold the ‘SET’ button until the day of the week indicator, located in the top left hand corner of the display, starts flashing. Release the button.
• Press the right arrow button  to select the current day of the week and press the ‘SET’ button to save. The hour digit will start to flash.
• Press the right arrow button ‘ to select the current hour of day and press the ‘SET’ button to save. The minute digit will start to flash.
• Press the right arrow button ‘ ’ to select the minutes and press the ‘SET’ button to save.
• The TG77 is now in operation mode with the time display and colon flashing.

Changing from 24 hour to AM/PM format
Note: The default time format will be 24 hour. Changing format will affect both the time display and the ON/OFF times you programme.

• Press and hold the ‘TIME’ button for around 3 seconds until the time has changed from 24 hour to AM/PM format, then release the button.
• To change back to 24 hour format, follow the same procedure.

Programming

ON/OFF times
Note: 20 ON/OFF programmes are available.

• Any number up to 20 can be programmed, unused programmes must be left blank (– – : – –) and not programmed with zeros.

• Decide what ON/OFF times you would like to programme and which days they will operate on. You are able to programme ON/OFF times to operate over the following days/day groups (shown in order of presentation on the

• The example programmed times used below are: ON at 12:10 and OFF at 16:05. The example days/day group used is: MON, TUE, WEDS.

• Press the right arrow button to access the programme menu. The display will show the following with ‘Prog 1 ON’ flashing.

• Press the ‘SET’ button to select ‘Prog 1 ON’ and the days/day groups will start flashing

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to scroll through the days/day groups. Press the ‘SET’ button to select the group you require (in this case MON, TUE, WEDS). The hour digit will start to flash.

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to select the hour of your ON time (in this case 12). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the minute digit will start to flash.

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to select the minutes (in this case 10). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and ‘Prog 1 ON’ will start to flash

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to change the ‘Prog 1 ON’ to ‘Prog 1 OFF’. Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the days/day groups will start to flash.

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to select the days/day group used for ‘Prog 1 ON’ (in this case MON,TUE,WED). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the hour digit will start to flash.

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to select the hour of your OFF time (in this case 16). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the minute digit will start to flash

• Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to select the minutes (in this case 5). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and ‘Prog 1 OFF’ will start to flash.

• At this stage your first programme is now saved into the memory. You are now able to use the right arrow button ’ ’ to move the next programme ‘Prog 2 ON’ if more ON/OFF times are required.

• When programming is complete, press the ‘TIME’ button to return to normal operating mode.

Reviewing and changing your ON/OFF programs

• From normal operating mode, repeatedly press the right arrow button ’ ’ to scroll thorough all your programs (the left arrow button ‘ ’ can be used to retrace steps if necessary).
• If you need to change an ON/OFF time;
  1. Select the correct programme using the right arrow button’ ’.
  2. Repeatedly press the ‘SET’ button until the time requiring changing is flashing.
  3. Press the right arrow button ’ ’ to make the amendment
  4. Press the ‘TIME’ button at any stage to save and return to normal operating mode.

Suspending a programme

Note: ON and OFF times from the same programme have to be suspended separately.

• To suspend a programme from normal operating mode, repeatedly press the right arrow button  until you reach the ON time you wish to suspend (the left arrow button  can be used to retrace steps if necessary).
• Press the triangle hand button ‘ and the display will change to ‘–:–‘
• Use the right arrow button until you reach the OFF time you wish to suspend
• Press the triangle hand button ‘ ’ and the display will change to ‘–:–‘
• Press the ‘TIME’ button to return to normal operating mode.
• To reinstate a programme normal operating mode, repeatedly press the right arrow button  until you reach the ON time you wish to reinstate (the left arrow button  can be used to retrace steps if necessary).
• Press the triangle hand button  to retrieve the suspended ON time.
• Use the right arrow button      until you reach the OFF time you wish to reinstate.
• Press the triangle hand button to retrieve the suspended OFF time.
• Press the ‘TIME’ button to return to normal operating mode.

Normal operating mode, advancing & permanent ON/OFF mode

• To ensure the unit is in normal operating mode to run your ON/OFF programs, press the triangle hand button until the left side of the display shows AUTO and either ON (if the programme should be ON now) or OFF (if the programme is due to turn ON later).
• The TG77 will now run all programs stored on a continuous basis.
• To advance or override the unit at any time, press the triangle hand button twice.
• The display will change from ‘AUTO OFF’ to ‘AUTO ON’ or from ‘AUTO ON’ to ‘AUTO OFF’.
• The advance or override will last until the next programme change.
• To switch to permanent ON or OFF, press the triangle hand button until either ON or OFF (as appropriate) is on the display without the AUTO symbol.
• The TG77 will now run continuously ON or OFF.

Random switching mode

The Random switching mode allows a delay for both start and finish times of an ON period. The random delay varies anywhere between 2 and 32 minutes to give the impression that a standard time switch is not in use.

• To activate the random switching feature, press the ‘RND’ button once when in normal operating mode. The ‘RND’ symbol will appear on the display.
• To deactivate the random switching feature, press the ‘RND’ button once again. The ‘RND’ symbol will disappear from the display.

Countdown mode

You are able to use the TG77 as a simple count down time switch, initiated from a manual start. The programmed countdown period can be from 1 second to 24 hours. The example countdown period used here is 1 hour 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

• From normal operating mode, press the left arrow button ‘ ’ once. The display will show the following with ‘ON’ flashing
• Press the ‘SET’ button once and the hour digit will start to flash.
• Press the right arrow button ’ to select the hour of your ON period (in this case 1). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the minute digit will start to flash.
• Press the right arrow button to select the minutes of your ON period (in this case 10). Press the ‘SET’ button to save, and the seconds digit will start to flash.
• Press the right arrow button to select the seconds of your ON period (in this case 30). Press the ‘SET’ button once to save the countdown period.
• Press the ‘CTD’ button to start the countdown procedure. The output light will turn ON and the appliance plugged into the TG77 will be energized until the countdown period has expired.
  Note: Once you have finished setting the countdown period, if the ‘CTD’ button is not pressed within 10 seconds the display will revert back to normal mode. To retrieve the setting press the left arrow button ‘ ’ followed by the ‘SET’ button. The countdown period can then be started by pressing the ‘CTD’ button

Summer/Winter change over

• You are able to instantly increase the current time by one hour by pressing the ‘TIME’ button and the left arrow button ‘ ’ simultaneously.
• A plus 1 hour symbol ‘insert symbol’ will appear on the display, and the time will adv.
• By pressing the buttons at the same time once, the symbol will disappear and the time will] move back 1 hour.

3 Year Guarantee

• In the unlikely event of this product becoming faulty due to defective material or manufacture within 3 years of the date of purchase, please return it to your supplier in the first year with proof of purchase and it will be replaced free of charge. For the second and third years or any difficulty in the first year telephone the helpline  on 020 8450 0515.
• Note: A proof of purchase is required in all cases. For all eligible replacements (where agreed by Timeguard) the customer is responsible for all shipping/postage charges outside of the UK.
• All shipping costs are to be paid in advance before a replacement is sent out.
