Irrigatia IRR-MPH25 SolarAutomatic Watering System Installation Guide
Tools
- Scissors
- Round pen
- Small amount of soapy water
Kit parts, to make 2 lengths of MPH with a connector and a stopper
- 6 stakes (not used here)
- 4 x 3cm lengths silicon tube
- 4 cable ties
- 2 stoppers
- 2 barb connectors
Method
Measure bed width, cut micro-porous hose about 20cm shorter.
- Grip the micro-porous hose between thumb and forefinger at 5 and 10cm from the end and pull together to expose the inner plastic core. Take great care not to crease the end 5cm of white tube.
- Cut 5cm from the black plastic revealed by above and pull micro-porous hose straight again.
- Ease pen into white tube to open it up.
- Insert a piece of silicon tube and tap the end of it until it is in and flush with the end of the white tube.
- Dip stopper or barb into soapy water and push it into the silicon, about 1.5 cm.
- Make a loop in a cable tie, slip it onto the end and pull tight, 5 – 10 mm from cut end.
- After the connections are fitted, soak the micro-porous hose for 12 hours in diluted washing up liquid.
- Connect in with your irrigation system.
Irrigatia Micro-Porous Hose is made of 3 components
- An inner core which provides a channel for water flow even if the hose is buried or kinked.
- A protective outer layer
- A Micro-Porous membrane which controls water emission. The pores are so small that water will not pass through unless there is some back pressure. This means that the whole MicroPorous Hose fills before water is emitted and that it is then evenly emitted along the whole length.
Irrigation layout
Micro-Porous Hose will water 8m2 at full rate when attached to a SOL-C24 or half rate with a SOL-C12. It will water a strip approx 33cm wide (depending on soil type) and can be used:
- In one continuous length or a number of shorter lengths. SOL-C12 up to 12m – SOL-C24 up to 24m. Single runs are ideal for rows, whilst multiple rows (or zigzag pattern) are ideal for beds.
- On the surface or covered with mulch.
- Curved or straight.
Micro-Porous Hose works better if it is always full of water. For this reason it is better when laid lower than the water source and when the anti-siphon is not installed.
When laying Micro-Porous Hose care should be taken to
- Lay it as level as possible, following contours if necessary. Where there are height differences up to 2m, a dripper can be used to regulate flow to lengths at different levels. 1 dripper supplies up to 2m of hose, a dripper at each end up to 4m. Max of 12 drippers if height differences are no more than 2m or 18 drippers if no more than 1m.
- Use plastic stakes provided to fix in place.
- Care should be taken not to damage the Micro-Porous Hose during cultivations. Scrape away any mulch covering before cultivation if necessary
The Micro-Porous Hose can be left in position over winter.
