ALERTON VAVi-7u5-IP Field Controller VAVi Series

WARNING Always install equipment as per the National Electrical Code NFPA 72, where applicable, and in a manner acceptable to the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). Read all instructions before mounting and wiring.

OVERVIEW

The Alerton VAV IP controllers are programmable room controllers with an integrated actuator and airflow sensor. The Alerton VAV IP is a versatile, BACnet-compliant field controller that provides pressure-independent control of any duct variable air volume (VAV) box. It is particularly suited for controlling duct fan-powered variable volume or constant volume terminal units.
These scalable and freely programmable BACnet/IP-based controllers utilize smart engineering and commissioning tools. Alerton VAV IP controllers offers BACnet/IP, universal inputs/output (UIO), and solid-state relay outputs.

MOUNTING

The Alerton VAV IP is suitable for dry indoor mounting. Ensure the location is free from electrical interference and that technicians can access the unit to terminate communications and power wiring, remove or replace the unit, remove the cover, and monitor LEDs during operation.

Table 1 Operational Limits

Storage Temperature – 40 °F (- 40 °C) to 150 °F (66 °C)
Operating Temperature 32 °F (0 °C) to 122 °F (50 °C)
Relative Humidity 5-95%, non-condensing

Follow below guidelines for mounting the VAV IP controller on the VAV box:

WARNING

Always disconnect the controller from power before mounting.

  1. Mount the controller on the damper shaft and attach Anti-rotation bracket.
    Mounting

  2. Drill a pilot hole as shown below.
    Mounting

  3. Adjust the shaft adapter and fasten the controller on the damper shaft.
    Mounting
NOTE : The controller can be mounted in any position, depending on the VAV box and the position of the damper shaft.

  4. Fasten the screw to fix the Anti-rotation bracket.
    Mounting

  5. Always use Anti-rotation bracket to mount the controller. Do not use a single screw to mount the controllers as shown below.
    Mounting

  6. Attach the airflow pickup.
    Mounting
    *Maximum pressure: ± 2.0 inches H2O (± 500 Pa).

WARNING! Blowing or sucking air into the pressure tubes will damage the pressure sensor.
NOTE : The airflow sensor is a uni-directional, i.e., tubes can be connected to either of the ports.

POWER SUPPLY

WARNING !
Electrical Shock Hazard.
Can cause severe injury, death or property damage.
Disconnect the power supply before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage. More than one power supply may have to be disconnected.

GROUNDING

Ensure that the grounding terminal cable is correctly grounded to a known earth ground.

WIRING

All wiring must comply with applicable electrical codes and ordinances specified in installation diagrams. Controller wiring is terminated to the screw terminal blocks located on the device.
For details about Power wiring, Terminal connections, UIO wirings, Input/Output wiring, refer to the Alerton VAV IP – Installation and Operations Guide (31-00531).

ELECTROSTATIC SENSITIVITY

The VAV IP controller and its components may be susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Use appropriate ESD grounding techniques while handling the product. When possible, always handle the product by its non-electrical components.

SECURITY

Security related measures can be implemented by working with your local Authorized Alerton Dealer. For more information refer to appropriate Alerton Security Guide.
