  • Pir sensor fresnel lens

Product Usage Instructions

Purpose and Benefits
The STHS343PF80 demo kit includes an electronic section (evaluation board, interface for DIL24, interface cable) and a mechanical section (planned plastic holder screws and nuts) along with a TMOS63-10 lens from a fresnel factory.

Mounting Holder
The PF63-10 lens has two different surfaces: one smooth and the other rough. The holder consists of three parts:

  1. Base holder for placing the PCB containing the sensor (STEVAL-MKI231AA board)
  2. Lens positioning for holding the lens in the correct location
  3. Holder closure to secure the lens position

The smooth part of the lens should face outward to capture light effectively. The holder has an insertion key that should align with the top of the board near the connector.

Final Mounting
After mounting the holder, secure it using screws at the bottom and nuts at the top. Consider using adhesive to prevent variations in thickness at the base of the holder.

FAQ

Q: Can I use the STHS34PF80 without the lens?
A: While possible, it has been verified that using a lens can enhance performance in certain applications.

Q: What is the purpose of the insertion key in the holder?
A: The insertion key helps in the proper alignment and positioning of the lens on the board.

Introduction

The STEVAL-MKI231KA electronic part must be manually assembled to have better performance in terms of data acquisition. It is possible to use STHS34PF80 itself but has been verified that in some applications, the performance is better if a lens is applied over the sensor. The purpose of the holder is to maintain the correct distance between the lens and sensor as per the figure below:STMicroelectronics-STEVAL-MKI231KA-Industrial-Board-FIG-

Mounting holder

The PF63-10 lens has been designed with two different surfaces: one part is smooth and the other face is rough.
The holder is created with a special black resin and it is composed by three parts:

  1. Base holder where is possible to place the PCB containing the sensor (STEVAL-MKI231AA board)
  2. Lens positioning where is possible to hold the lens in the proper location
  3. Holder closure is the part of the holder that closes the lens position and lens

The smooth part is the part that captures the light and for this reason, must be put versus the external respect to the board.

Lens positioning and holder closure have a proper insertion key visible at the bottom. This “special” must be put in the top of the board close to the connector.STMicroelectronics-STEVAL-MKI231KA-Industrial-Board-FIG-

It is possible to put the screws on the bottom side (and nuts on the top). In this last case, it is possible to lock the system using a proper adhesive avoiding different thicknesses on the base of the holder.
