Product Usage Instructions

Quick Start: The left envelope is typically used for patching to a Filter Cut-Off CV-IN. The right envelope is internally connected to a VCA; you can take the Filter audio out and patch it into the VCA IN.

Adding Velocity:
Control Path offers velocity control to vary the voltage peak of envelopes, adding dynamic variations to notes.

Velocity Trimmer Adjustments:
To adjust velocity trimmers, send a repetitive sequence and turn the trimmer clockwise until clicks are reduced or eliminated. Be cautious not to over- rotate the trimmers to avoid damage. Reset by rotating counterclockwise.

FAQ:

  • Q: How do I adjust the velocity trimmers?
A: Send a repetitive sequence, turn the trimmer clockwise to reduce clicks, but avoid over-rotation to prevent damage. Reset by rotating counterclockwise.

  • Q: What is the purpose of the left and right envelopes?
A: The left envelope is commonly patched to Filter Cut-Off CV-IN, while the right envelope is connected to an internal VCA for further use with other modules.

  • Q: How does velocity control work with Control Path?
A: Velocity control in Control Path varies the voltage peak of envelopes, offering dynamic variations to notes.

Control Path consolidates the dynamics modules needed to build synth voices into one low-cost, small, and easy-to-use module. In a typical synthesizer voice, there are two envelope generators: one envelope dedicated to sound modification, like a filter, and the other dedicated to the end-of-the-voice VCA, which controls the volume when a key is pressed on a keyboard or a note is triggered from a sequencer. Control Path includes both of these envelopes, along with the VCA. Under the hood, it’s all analog, made with the classic envelopes of the OBX (even the modern replica OBXs don’t have that) and the excellent SSI2164 VCA.

Quick Start

The left envelope is the one you will most likely patch to a Filter Cut-Off CV-IN. The right envelope has a built-in VCA internally tied to it; you will most likely take the Filter audio out and patch it into the VCA IN.TTA-VCA-

The envelope on the right side is patched to the internal VCA but is also available through its EG OUT jack for further use with other modules.

Adding Velocity

Control Path also includes velocity control. Velocity is used to vary the voltage peak of the envelopes, providing additional dynamic variations to your notes.TTA-VCA-IN-Control-Path-Multi-Effect-Module-2

Velocity Trimmer Adjustments

Velocity works seamlessly with Octopus because we ensured that both Velocity CV changes and gate are sent out in tight sync. If these two signals are not synchronized (as is the case with some Eurorack gear) and Velocity CV lags, arriving after the envelope has already fired, the velocity change will be heard as an audio click. Beneath each envelope, there is a small trimmer that you can use to help compensate for this issue.

To adjust it, send a repetitive sequence where you can hear the clicks (make sure you are not confusing natural sharp envelope attack clicks or wave discontinuity clicks) and turn the trimmer clockwise until the clicks are either reduced or completely gone. However, adding this compensation introduces a slight delay to help ‘hide’ the source issue.

Regarding the trimmers, they are multi-turn; once they reach their maximum setting, they will make a faint clicking sound. Be mindful of this to avoid rotating them too far, as excessive rotation might wear out and damage the trimmer. To reset the trimmer to its factory setting, rotate it counterclockwise until you hear the faint clicks again.
