OVERVIEW

Designed, assembled and tested by Audax in the USA, the OM7 is a dynamic vocal microphone used for professional sound companies, front of house engineers, mixing engineers, and high profile fixed installations. The OM7 is known for its ability to provide unprecedented gain before feedback on concert level stages without sacrificing sound quality. In addition, the OM7 is very resistant to feedback on extremely loud stages, and for performers who tend to “cup” the microphone with both hands.

In order to achieve these extraordinary performance benefits, the OM7 is designed with an unconventionally low output level (8-10 dB lower than typical dynamic microphones). This low gain stage acts as a natural “pad” at the capsule in order to maintain high fidelity at the source. For this reason, the OM7 is best suited for use with high quality mixing consoles and sound system.

The OM7 is characterized with a super-tight hype cardioid polar pattern which effectively isolates the vocals from the rest of the instruments on stage. With a wide frequency range of 48 Hz – 19 kHz, the OM7 employs a VLM™(Very Low Mass) diaphragm for a very clean and punchy sound with exceptional transient response.

Well balanced, comfortable to hold and durable, the OM7 is manufactured with very high standards and tight tolerances. The OM7 includes a precision die cast zinc alloy body, durable black E-coat finish, dent resistant steel mesh grill and gold plated XLR connector.

ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER SPECIFICATIONS

The microphone shall be of the dynamic type and the polar pattern of the microphone shall be hype cardioid. The nominal output impedance shall be equal to 50 ohms at 1 kHz. The microphone shall have a sensitivity of 0.8 mV / Pa at 1 kHz and a sound pressure level ≥144 db. The microphone body shall be of die cast zinc alloy and the grill cap shall be steel wire mesh. The overall dimensions shall be 23 mm in diameter at the base, 53 mm in diameter at the widest point on the grill and 176 mm in length.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

The OM7 is a low impedance microphone and should be plugged into the “mic level” input of your console, mixer or recording device. Please note that your microphone does not require phantom power and will not be affected in any way by phantom power should it be running simultaneously while the microphone is in operation. Avoid plugging or unplugging the microphone from the PA system unless the channel is muted or the volume of the system turned down. Failure to do so may result in a loud “popping” noise which could seriously damage the speakers in the PA system.

The OM7 is manufactured to exacting specs with roadworthy construction. However, the capsule is highly sensitive and should be handled with care. Avoid extreme temperatures and be sure to store your microphone in the pouch provided when not in use. Moisture of any kind can adversely effect the sound and performance of your microphone.

USER TIPS

The OM7 is designed with an unconventionally low output level; this means that the gain will have to be compensated on the mixing console or mic preamp. The OM7 has the tightest pick-up pattern of any microphone on the market. This helps eliminate sound from other instruments on stage from “bleeding” into the microphone. For best results, it is important to sing directly into the mic as close as possible at all times (within 1 inch).

When using floor monitors, position the microphone so that it is parallel to the floor. When using multiple microphones on a live performance stage, allow a distance of 2-3 feet between mics to avoid phase issues.
