QL Power Converter
The QL Power Converter provides a modern, efficient replacement for the
original QL power supply.
The converter takes a nominal 12V input from an existing power supply (plug
pack or other suitable power source with a 2.1mm DC plug) and converts this
single voltage into the DC and AC voltages the QL requires. The converter
comes with a custom 3D printed case and QL power plug.
Protection is provided with the converter returning to standby if excessive
power draw is detected or if the external power supply is of insufficient
power rating.* Note:
Suitable external power supplies will need to have an output voltage
between 10V and 18V and be rated to provide at least 12W (Voltage x Current).
For example a 12V/1A supply or 18V/0.67A would satisfy the minimum
requirement. Power supplies of a higher current rating can be used as long as
the output voltage does not exceed 18V.
Operation:
- Connect the converter to the QL with the QL power plug.
- Connect the external power supply to the converter. With external power applied, the converter starts in standby mode with the status LED slowly flashing.
- Press the Power Switch once to apply power to the QL. The status LED will stop flashing and stay on.
- To remove power from the QL, press the Power Switch once more. The status LED will start flashing slowly indicating standby mode.
- It is safe to remove the QL power plug when the converter is in standby.
Troubleshooting:
Problem: The converter won’t come out of standby.
Likely Causes: The external power supply is of insufficient power (regardless
of what the label says) or the QL is drawing too much power due to a possible
fault condition.
