Setting Up a Router Bit or Table Saw Depth of Cut
- When was the last time you set a router bit or table saw depth of cut and got it perfect the first time? No one has that much luck! Using Step Gauge RTS, guesswork flies out the window.
- To get the perfect setting, simply position the gauge over the bit or blade with your desired dimension at the corresponding step. Now you can make the setting adjustment with both hands free thanks to the gauges’ supports. (Hint: Raise the blade or bit until you see the foot of the support rise slightly oft the table, then lower until the foot just touches the surface it’s resting on.)
- The Step Gauge RTS is actually two gauges, with each step in 1/16″ increments. Each gauge’s first and last steps are 1/32″ different so you can make any bit or blade setting truly accurate to 1/32″. The RTS features a range of settings from 1/32″ to 1-1/4″.
Setting Up the Drill Press
For a precision setup just slip the “egg crate” style support into the gauge
and place the gauge adjacent to the drill bit at the step representing the
desired amount of material left below your hole. Now you can set the quill
travel stop to match the gauge setting. The two DP gauges allow adjustments in
1/32″ increments ranging from 1/16″ to 1-9/32″
