Connecting via Bluetooth wireless technology

About pairing

  • To connect the product to a Bluetooth device, the product needs to pair (register) with the device.
  • Once they are paired, you do not need to pair them again.

However, you need to pair again in the following cases:

  • If the product is deleted from the Bluetooth device’s connection history.
  • If the product is sent out for repair.
  • If you try to pair nine devices or more. (This product can save pairing information on up to eight devices in total.
  • If you pair a new device after you have already paired eight devices, the pairing information of the device that was connected first among the eight devices will be overwritten by the new device’s information.)

Pairing a Bluetooth device

  • Read the user manual for the Bluetooth device.
  • Place the device within 1 m (3.3′) of the product to perform pairing correctly.
  • To confirm the progress of the pairing process, wear the product while performing this procedure and listen for the confirmation tone.
  1. Starting with the product turned off, slide the power supply/control button to the “ON” position.
    • The indicator lamp will light in blue, and then flash in red and blue.
  2. Use your Bluetooth device to begin the pairing process and search for the product.
    • When your Bluetooth device finds the product, “ATH-SPORT70BT” will be displayed on the device.
    • For information about using your Bluetooth device, refer to the device’s user manual.
  3. Select “ATH-SPORT70BT” to pair the product and your Bluetooth device.
    • Some devices may ask for a passkey. In this case, enter “0000”. The passkey may also be called a passcode, PIN code, PIN, or password.
    • The product sounds like a confirmation tone when the pairing is complete.

Using the product

  • The product can use Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your device and play music, receive phone calls, etc. Use the product for whichever of these purposes suits your needs.
  • Note that Audio-Technica cannot guarantee the operation of displays, such as the battery level display, or applications via Bluetooth devices.

  1. Some controls may not be available for music and video playback on some devices.
  2. A confirmation tone is heard when the volume is at the maximum or minimum level.
    • The volume control of some devices may not work well with the product.

Using hear-through mode

  • In the hear-through mode of the product, the ambient sound is audible through the built-in microphone even with the headphones on.
  • The ambient sound may at times be hard to discern depending on the volume of the music you are playing. In that case, turn down the volume of the music.
  • Even in the hear-through mode of the product, the ambient sound may be less audible due to the ambient environment. Do not use the product in an area where it might be dangerous if the ambient sound is hard to discern, such as places with a lot of traffic.
  • With the hear-through mode on, the volume of music automatically turns down to capture the ambient sound.
  • If you turn the hear-through mode on or off when the volume is at the maximum or minimum level, the confirmation tone will sound repeatedly. This is not a product failure.
  • The hear-through mode may not be activated at certain times, such as when you turn on the power of the product while touching the touch sensor, or when the usage environment is not agreeable.
  • In these cases, cycle the power of the product, allowing more than five seconds between turning it off and on.
  • To turn the hear-through mode on, touch the touch sensor located in the center of the left headphone (L).
  • To turn it off, touch the touch sensor again.
  • The confirmation tone will sound once when the hear-through mode turns on, and twice when it turns off.

  • Disconnecting and then reconnecting the USB charging cable will reset the product and should resolve any problem you are experiencing.
  • If the problem persists, please contact your local Audio-Technica dealer.
  • Resetting the product does not change any of your settings (pairing information, volume setting, etc.).
  • The SBC priority connection (p. 14) is disconnected.

Cleaning

  • Get into the habit of regularly cleaning the product to ensure that it lasts for a long time.
  • Do not use alcohol, paint thinners, or other solvents for cleaning purposes.

Main unit

  • When cleaning the main unit, remove the eartips.
  • If the product becomes soiled with sweat or dirt, wash it away with fresh water at room temperature (10 to 35 °C (50 to 95 °F)), or weak running water, instead of using soapy water.
  • Position the product so that the outer surface is facing the water flow (see figure below), and avoid pouring water directly on the sound reproduction part, which is not water-resistant.
  • Be sure to wash the product with your hands instead of using a brush or sponge.
  • This product is waterproof to the IPX5 level, but the sound reproduction part is not water-resistant. Infiltration of water into the inside of headphones may cause the product to make no sound or make the sound hard to hear.
  • Natural oils from the skin are particularly likely to build up on the areas where the eartips attach to the headphones (see figure below). If these areas are not cleaned, the eartips can become detached. Clean them regularly.
  • Do not touch the areas where sound is produced as they are delicate. Doing so may result in malfunction.audio-technica-ATH-SPORT70BT-Bluetooth-Sports-Headphones-fig-11

After washing, wipe the product clean by following the steps listed below:

  1. Wipe off the water from the surfaces with a dry, clean cloth.
  2. Hold the product firmly, and shake off the water about 20 times until no drops of water sprinkle off.
    • Moisture left in the sound reproduction part and microphones may cause the product to make no sound.
    • If that is the case, lay out a dry cloth and shake both the sound reproduction part and the microphones downward toward the cloth about 20 times each.
  3. If water is left in a space between the sound reproduction part and the microphone, press a dry, clean, and soft cloth gently to the product to wipe off the moisture.
  4. Dry them thoroughly in a well-ventilated shade.
    • Do not apply hot air from a dryer directly onto the product.
    • Do not use a cotton swab to forcibly wipe off the moisture left in a space between the parts of the product.

Cable and eartips

  • Wipe away any perspiration or dirt from the cable with a dry cloth immediately after use. Failure to clean the cable may cause it to deteriorate and harden over time, resulting in malfunction.
  • Wipe the cable’s USB plug with a dry cloth if dirty.
  • Clean the eartips by removing them from the headphones and manually cleaning them with a diluted mild detergent. After cleaning, dry before using again.
  • If the product will not be used for an extended period, store it in a well-ventilated place free from high temperatures and humidity.

Eartips

Eartip size

  • The product includes eartips in 4 sizes (XS, S, M, and L), and Comply™ foam eartips (size M). At the time of purchase, the M-size eartips are attached.
  • To ensure the best sound quality, select the ear tip size that is best suited for you, and adjust the eartips inside your ears for a snug fit.
  • It may be difficult to hear bass sounds if the eartips do not fit snugly in your ears.

Replacing the eartips

  • Remove the old ear tip and attach the new ear tip by pushing it onto the headphones at an angle (see figure).
  • Push firmly on the ear tip so that the inside of the ear tip expands, and push the ear tip onto the post as far as it will go.
  • The eartips are designed to be difficult to remove, therefore the fit is very tight when attaching them.
  • Periodically remove and clean the eartips as they become dirty easily. Using dirty eartips may cause the headphones themselves to become dirty, resulting in deteriorated sound quality.
  • Eartips are consumable parts that degrade through storage and use. If the eartips are loose and easily removed or if they appear to have degraded, purchase replacements.
  • When reattaching eartips that were previously removed, be sure to check that they are securely attached. Injury or illness may occur if the eartips become detached and are left inside the ear.

Troubleshooting
