Important Safety Instructions
Please read the following operation precautions before use:

- Do Not use this apparatus near water.
- Clean only with dry cloth.
- Do Not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Do Not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Do Not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type plug. A polarizing plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or third prong, are provided for safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
- Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at the plugs, convenience receptacles, and at the point where they exit from the apparatus.
- Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
- Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

WARNING: THE APPARATUS (AC/DC ADAPTOR AND MAIN UNIT) SHALL NOT BE EXPOSED

VASES, SHALL BE PLACED ON THE APPARATUS.
- Minimum distances around the apparatus for sufficient ventilations is not less than 10mm;
- The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items such as newspaper, table-cloths, curtains etc;
- No naked flame sources such as lighted candles should be placed on the apparatus;
- Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal; The use of apparatus in moderate climates;
- Mains plug is used as the disconnect device. It shall remain readily operable and should not be obstructed during intended used. To be completely disconnected the apparatus from supply mains, the mains plug of the apparatus shall be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely.
Rating Information on the bottom of the Unit
Important Note for all Electronic Products: Before inserting or unplugging
audio cables from the source device’s headphones or line-level output jacks,
it is good practice to turn off the device. This will prolong the life of your
unit, help protect your device from static electricity, and avoid potential
damage.
Introduction to your JBL On Time, a time machine for your iPodTM . Time,
Sound, Sync, Charge The JBL ON TIME is the latest innovation from JBL, a long
time leader in the manufacture of high-end and professional component audio
systems. JBL’s audio heritage combined with continual research has provided
the unique technologies included in the JBL ON TIME.
JBL “On Time” is a revolution in time travel for the iPodTM . Imagine waking
up to your favorite song stored on your iPodTM . No more buzzer or bad radio
reception. On time is a compact, high performance time machine and sound
center. Connected to your iPodTM , iPod miniTM , MP3 player or other music
source, the on time will provide clean, powerful sound while providing time
keeping, alarm and radio features. The world’s first time machine with an
intuitive user interface that is simple to navigate.
Compatibility The JBL on time is compatible with all docking versions of the
iPodTM , including the iPod miniTM and iPodTM Photo. A stereo mini jack
connection also allows you to enjoy high quality audio from a variety of other
devices such as, iPod ShuffleTM , MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all
platforms) , satellite radio and laptops.
Easy to use music and navigation controls
Music Controls – Just a touch increases or decrease the volume. Another touch
and you choose iPod, radio or auxiliary. JBL on time remembers your source and
the last volume setting even after the system shuts down.
Time and alarm features
The intuitive user interface allows for all functions to be programmed easily.
The JBL On Time includes two alarms for independent wake times. The navigation
buttons provide instant access to the menus. The automatic time set feature
provides one button time setting. Navigate the intuitive menu structure to
change settings such as language, alarms and snooze. Radio functions such as
channel presets are simple
Display
The large backlight LCD display provides for easy viewing and menu navigation.
Automatic dimming provides the correct brightness level in any room
environment.
A dome light provides a glow for your iPod. Lighted buttons are easy to find
in the dark.
Additional Features
OnePoint design – The OnePoint iPodTM connectors provide the connection to
you computer. Connect the standard iPodTM cable to the rear of the on time and
every time you dock your iPod, you will have a connection for synchronizing
and charging. Evercharge Topology – The JBL on time provides power to charge
your iPodTM even when not connected to the computer or if the system is off.
Backup battery – The on time memory is keep by a backup battery. Even with the
power out, the on time will provide the alarm function. TimeCrawler – The JBL
On Time has the ability to set the clock automatically from any local radio
station that transmits the time in their signal.
Advanced Technology
The JBL on time combines many proprietary technologies to provide the highest
quality sound. The on time will provide astonishing bass and clear accurate
sound from any direction. Halo acousticsTM
– The horizontal acoustic level optimization or Halo acousticsTM design
provides a full, rich sound field from any direction. The upward firing
tweeter and horizontal low and midrange transducers provides a 360 degree
sound field. PhoenixTM and RidgeTM
Transducers – The two aluminum domed full range transducers are driven by
powerful Neodymium magnets. The RidgeTM tweeter provides accurate high
frequencies. This two way design provides a full rich frequency response from
the lowest bass to the highest highs.
COE (Computer Optimized Equalization) – The JBL on time system equalization
was computer optimized to provide a rich, complete sound stage.
OCT (Optimized Compression Topology) – The JBL on time utilizes a proprietary
compression technology to insure clean accurate sound at high output levels.
Unpacking
Carefully unpack your s peaker system a nd i dentify all components:
- A On Time
- B Power Supply
- C iPod adaptors
- D Aux audio cable
- E AM antenna
General Setup
- Unpack the JBL On Time and iPod adaptors and power adaptor
- Choose the appropriate iPod adaptor and place i nto docking station
- Place the iPod into the adaptor
- Plug power adaptor into jack marked 15Vdc in
- Plug adaptor into wall outlet
- If a n additional audio source i s used, c onnect source i nto Aux In
- Unwind the FM wire antenna. Straighten t he wire for the best r eception
- Connect external AM Antenna for better reception
- If t he use of an additional subwoofer i s desired, connect t o Sub Out j ack
- For b ackup memory s ettings, i nstall 3 AAA batteries
Clock Setting Instructions:
- From t he “PLEASE SET CLOCK SCREEN” Press any Navigatio n key.
- Use “Left /Right” button to set “hour” and press Enter
- Use “Left /Right” button “minute” a nd press Enter
- Use “Left /Right” button “day” and press Enter
- The JBL On Time will confirm the clock is set.
Timecrawler – Auto t ime set
The JBL On Time fe atures TimeCrawler, which can set t he clock automatical
ly. The O n Time s cans t o find a radio station t hat transmits the time,
receives t he signal and sets the clock.
- Press t he “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach t he “JBL On Time” s creen
- Use “Left /Right” button to select “Set” and press Enter
- Use “Left /Right” button to “SetCLK” a nd press Enter
- Use “Left /Right” button “Auto” a nd press Enter
The On Time will search for a radio station transmitting the time. When
TimeCrawler fin ds a station, the On Time will display th e % complete. The On
Time wi ll then show th e t ime has been set. If the On Time is not successful
with Timecrawler, it will instruct you to set the time manually. Please follow
the Clock Set ting Instructions shown above. *The accuracy of Time Crawler is
based on the accuracy of the local radio stati on clock.
Playing music
- Press “ Mode Select” button to select the source (iPod, Radio , Aux.)
- Press “ ” button to increase volume
- Press “ “ button to decrease volume
Radio Tuning and Pre sets:
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach t he “JBL On Time” s creen
- Select “l isten” and press Enter
- Select “ radio” and press Enter
- Select “FM” or “AM” a nd press Enter
- Tune to the desired frequency using “Left/Right” buttons . Hold either button and release to scan for the next station.
- PRESETS: Press and hold the Enter button
- Use “Left/Right” button to select preset number and press Enter
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button to exit
- Use the “Left/Right” button to navigate the presets
Alarm Setting:
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach the “JBL On Time” screen
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Alarms” and press Enter
- Use “Left/Right” button to Select “Alarm 1,” or “Alarm 2” and press Enter
- Select “Time” and press Enter
- Enter time for alarm and day Day mode options are: ED-everyday, WD-weekdays and WE-weekend
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Source” and press Enter
- Use “Left/Right” button to select the desired wakeup source and press Enter
- To enable the alarm, press the “Alarm 1 ” or “Alarm 2 ” buttons (An alarm icon on the main screen will indicate Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 status )
Waking to you iPod:
- Use steps for alarm setting and choose iPod as the source.
- On your iPod, choose the song you would like to awaken you ** . And press play***.
- The volume will start at a low level and ramp to a higher level.
- Place your iPod to sleep by holding down the “play/pause” button. (Older iPod models will vary)
- The JBL On Time can be put to sleep by pressing the power button.
** Some versions of iPod software may behave differently.
* If you choose the last song on your iPod, please place iPod in repeat
mode, this ensures the iPod will continue to play the last song.
Screen Contrast/Brightness:**
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach the “JBL On Time” screen
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Set” and press Enter
- Select “Extras” and press Enter
- Select “Screen” and press enter
- Select “bright” or contrast” and press Enter
Select desired setting and press Enter
Languages:
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach the “JBL On Time” screen
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Set” and press Enter
- Select “extras” and press Enter
- Select “Lang” and press Enter
Select desired language and press Enter
Sleep Timer:
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach the “JBL On Time” screen
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Set”
- Select “Sleep” and press Enter
- Press Enter to Select On or Off
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Minutes” and press Enter
Select desired time and press Enter
Snooze:
- Press the “Menu Up/Back” button until you reach the “JBL On Time” screen
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Ala rms” and press Enter
- Use “Left/Right” button to select “Snooze” and press Enter
Select desired Snooze time and press Enter

Troubleshooting
SYMPTOM | POSSIBLE PROBLEM | SOLUTION | NOTE |

SOUND QUALITY
No sound from On Time| No power to unit.| Make sure wall power outlet or power
strip has power. Make sure all switches for outlet/power strip are on and that
all switches for speaker system are on.| Is the Display on? If the display is
not on, power is not getting to your JBL On Time. Try the solutions shown.
Incorrect source selection| Ensure that the correct source is selected.
Choose FM radio as a source. Turn up the volume. Check the system with a known
good source, such as a your iPod.
Connect the aux-in cable to the headphone jack on your iPod.|
No sound or weak signal from AM/FM Radio.| Bad reception from current
location.
Interference.| Relocate your JBL On Time until you find better reception.
Check surrounding area for any possible interference. Wrap up any excess
cables.| If you are still getting a weak signal from AM broadcasts, connect
the external AM Antenna into the AM Antenna jack.
Sound only comes from one side/channel.| IPod or Audio cable is not seated
properly.| Make sure the iPod or Aux In cable is seated all the way into the
JBL On Time.| If you are using an extension cable or a third party cable, make
sure it is a stereo 3.5mm male to male cable.
Distortion (static, crackling or hissing sounds)| Noise may be caused by
interference from a monitor, cell phone or other transmitting device.| Turn
monitor off to see if noise is eliminated. Move JBL On Time cables farther
away from monitor.|
JBL On Time is being overdriven by an amplified audio source.| Ensure that the
JBL On Time is connected to an appropriate source device. Make sure that all
signal cables are inserted snugly into receptacles.|
Volume level may be too high.| Check volume of source device. Some device will
distort the output signal if the volume is set to
maximum.
|
Too much bass or treble.| Check the EQ setting on your iPod or source device|
JBL recommends that the source device EQ be set to Flat or OFF|
JBL On Time emits a loud hum or buzzing noise.| Input cables not plugged in
properly| Check input cable connection|
Speaker system experiences radio frequency interference or picks up a radio
station| Input cable may be picking up interference| Wrap up excess input
cable in order to make as short as possible|
Purchase a ferrite clamp and attach over input cable. A clamp can be purchased
at your local electronics store

not have the JBL On Time connected to a USB or Firewire hub. Connect the JBL
On Time directly into the computer’s USB or Firewire port.
2. Try connecting the USB or Firewire cable to another port on the back of
the computer.|
CIock Set CIock Memory
Incorrect clock time when Auto clock set is used| The local radio station
sends out the time signal. The local radio station time is set improperly| Use

Auto Clock set does not set the clock| No local station is sending the RDS

JBL On Time does not retain memory settings when there is a power outage or if
