Before starting the installation of your Hertz HD bag lid cut-in kit installation, here is a list of things you will need.

  1. Paint-safe masking tape
  2. 3/8” and 5/8” drill bit
  3. 2 Phillips drill driver

  4. Jigsaw (or body saw or rotary cutting tool)
  5. Shop vacuum
  6. 2 Phillips hand screwdriver

  7. Care and patience

The installation of your Hertz HD bag lid cut-in kit can be installed with the saddlebags securely mounted to the motorcycle or with them removed and placed on a “soft” secure work surface, free of any debris to avoid damage to the bags.

  1. Use masking tape to cover the saddlebag lid approximately 1” beyond the edge of the included cut template. Be sure the tape sits flat, smaller pieces help to eliminate any wrinkles or bunching in the tape.

  2. For additional stability, an additional layer of tape can be added on the edge of the cut template, overlapping the tape on the saddlebag.

  3. Once the tape has been applied, position the cut template on the saddlebag, ensuring that it sits flush with no visible gaps. With the included screws (pack of 6), secure the cut template to the saddlebag through the 3 predrilled holes.

  4. Using a 3/8” drill bit, carefully predrill the relief holes in the template, allowing for the insertion of your cutting tool of choice.

  5. Using your jigsaw, body saw or rotary tool, carefully cut just inside the edge of the cut template, cutting straight through the tabs that hold the center section in place. (Note that the center section will fall once the entire perimeter has been cut, so take care on the final cut so that your tool does not jump and damage the bike)

  6. Vacuum any debris in, on or around the saddlebag.

  7. With tape still in place, sand or file any of the cut edges to smooth the opening, again vacuuming any debris.

  8. Test fit the speaker grill portion of the lid kit, ensuring that it fits flush in the cutout with no visible gaps, then remove masking tape.

  9. Using provided machine mounting screws (pack of 8), sandwich the bag lid between the speaker mounting adapter, on the inside of the bag lid, and the speaker grill on the outside, using your hand screwdriver.

  10. After affixing the provided foam gasket to speaker, use provided mounting screws (pack of 8) and install the SX690neo speaker to the speaker mounting adapter.

  11. Drill a 5/8” hole on the wheel-facing side of the saddle bag for the speaker wire grommet. (removing the bag from the bike will be necessary if the speaker install was done with the saddlebag in place.

  12. Insert wire grommet, carefully route and attach positive and negative speaker wires to the SX690neo speaker.
You are now ready to wire the speakers to your radio/amplifier and enjoy the new look and sound of the 2014+ Harley Davidson.
