Do I need a serial key?

• Yes, a serial key is required to activate WinZip.
• Your serial key will be in Your Software Library within your Amazon account, as well as your Digital Delivery Confirmation email from Amazon.

How do I install WinZip?

  WinZip is a perpetual license, and the current version can be used as long as operating systems, devices, and technologies continue to support it.

• What compression formats are compatible?
  WinZip enables you to instantly convert compression formats RAR, 7Z, Z, GZ, TAR, TGZ, LZH, LHA, TAR, CAB, WMZ, YFS, WSZ, BZ2, BZ, TBZ, TBZ2, XZ, TXZ, VHD or POSIX TAR files into a Zip, Zipx or LHA file.

• Can I open other archive types?

• What is the difference between Zip and Zipx files?
  WinZip creates Zip files (.zip or .zipx), and enables you to choose between two different compression methods.

  • The Zip (Compatibility) method creates Zip files that are compatible with almost every other Zip file utility, but the compression used is not likely to create the smallest Zip files possible.
    This method is your best choice if you will be sharing your Zip file, especially if you do not know what Zip file utility the receiver of your shared files will use or if you already know that an older or limited utility will be used.

  • The Zipx (Best compression) alternative uses compression that will usually create smaller Zip files with a .zipx extension, but this method will not be compatible with all Zip file utilities. This method should be selected if compressed file size is your primary concern. If you plan to share a .zipx file, please make sure that the receiver of your shared file is using the latest version of WinZip or another Zip file utility that is compatible with all of WinZip’s advanced compression methods.

How can I transfer WinZip to another computer?
As mentioned above, this license is only allowed on one computing device. If you would like to transfer WinZip to another computer, follow the directions below. Before transferring, ensure you have your registration information. You can find your registration information in your email records, your Amazon account, or the Help > About dialog in-product.

1. Uninstall WinZip from your computer. Ensure it is removed completely.
2. Download and install the correct WinZip version* on another computer.
3. Enter your registration information on the new computer to complete the process.

Note: Registration codes are specific to a particular WinZip version. Older versions of WinZip can be downloaded from the Legacy Download Links page.
