DUAL-PHASE Controls

behringer BE 0709 Authentic Dual Phase Shifter with 12 Opto Couplers - DUAL-
PHASE Controls

Step 1: Controls

SWEEP GENERATOR 1 Section

  1. RATE – Use this knob to adjust the rate at which SWEEP GENERATOR 1 oscillates. The oscillation frequency ranges from roughly 1 oscillation per 10 seconds to 18 oscillations per second.

  2. MAN/CV – Use this rocker switch to select between the RATE knob (MAN) or an expression pedal (CV) connected to the CV 1 jack as the control source for the sweep rate.

  3. SHAPE – This rocker switch determines whether SWEEP GENERATOR 1 oscillates with a sine or square waveform.
    SWEEP GEN 2 Section

  4. RATE – Use this knob to adjust the rate at which SWEEP GEN 2 oscillates. The oscillation frequency ranges from roughly1 oscillation per 10 seconds to 1oscillations per second.

  5. SHAPE – This rocker switch determines whether SWEEP GEN 2 oscillates with a sine or square waveform.
    PHASOR A Section

  6. LED (ON/OFF) – This indicator LED lights up when PHASOR A is engaged.

  7. DEPTH – This knob controls the frequency range swept by the modulation circuit. Increased depth settings increase the frequency range and produce a more intense phasing effect.

  8. FEEDBACK – This knob controls the amount of signal routed back into the phasing effect. The more feedback you add, the more edgy and distinct the phasing sound will become.

  9. SWEEP (GEN 1/CV) – This rocker switch determines whether SWEEP GENERATOR 1 (GEN 1) or a control voltage input through the CV IN jack (such as an expression pedal) serves as the modulation source. Using an expression pedal to control the modulation rate can produce an effect similar to a wah pedal.

  10. FOOTSWITCH A – Press this switch to engage or bypass PHASOR A.
When PHASOR A is engaged, the PHASOR A LED will light up.
    PHASOR B Section

  11. LED (ON/OFF) – This indicator LED lights up when PHASOR B is engaged.

  12. DEPTH – This knob controls the frequency range swept by the modulation circuit.
Increased depth settings increase the frequency range and produce a more intense phasing effect.

  13. SWEEP SYNC (NORM/REV) – Use this rocker switch to invert the modulation source signal (REV setting). When setting up stereo phasing effects where both PHASOR A and PHASOR B are controlled by SWEEP GENERATOR 1, the out-of-phase setting (REV) can enhance the stereo effect.

  14. FEEDBACK – This knob controls the amount of signal routed back into the phasing effect. The more feedback you add, the more edgy and distinct the phasing sound will become.

  15. SWEEP (GEN 1/GEN 2/CV) – Use this 3-way rotary switch to choose between SWEEP GENERATOR 1 (GEN 1), SWEEP GEN 2 (GEN 2) or a control voltage input through the CV IN jack (CV) as the modulation source for PHASOR  B.

  16. PHASOR B INPUT (IN A/OUT A/IN B) – This 3-way rotary switch allows you to choose the signal input for the PHASOR B circuit.
You can choose between the IN A jack (IN A), an internal connection to the PHASOR A output (OUT A) or the IN B jack (IN B).

  17. FOOTSWITCH B – Press this switch  to engage or bypass PHASOR B.
When PHASOR B is engaged, the PHASOR B LED will light up.
    Input/Output/Power Section

  18. IN/OUT A – Use these ¼” jacks to route mono signals into and back out of the PHASOR A section.
When the PHASOR B INPUT rotary switch is in the IN A position, the IN A jack will also route signal into the PHASOR B circuit. The OUT A signal from PHASOR A can also be routed directly into PHASOR B via an internal parallel connection when the PHASOR B INPUT rotary switch is in the OUT A position.

  19. CV IN – Connect an expression pedal or other control voltage source to this jack to control a variety of parameters, depending on the setting of various main panel switches with a “CV” option.
Via this jack, you can control oscillation for SWEEP GENERATOR 1 (in place of the RATE knob), the SWEEP speed for PHASOR A, and/or the SWEEP speed for PHASOR B.

  20. IN/OUT B – Use these ¼” jacks to route mono signals into and back out of the PHASOR B section.

  21. POWER – Press this latching switch to turn the unit on or off.

  22. DC IN – Use this jack to connect the included DC power supply.

DUAL-PHASE Getting started

Step 2: Getting started

Basic Phasing
This Basic Phasing setup routes the PHASOR A output directly into PHASOR B. PHASOR A and B are each controlled by a different sweep generator, SWEEP GENERATOR 1 and SWEEP GEN 2, respectively. The final output from PHASOR B goes to a single amplifier.

  1. Connect the power supply to the DC IN jack.

  2. Connect your instrument to the IN A jack.

  3. Connect the OUT B jack to your amplifier.

  4. Press the POWER switch to power on the unit.

  5. For Basic Phasing, set the main panel controls to the following settings:
    • • SWEEP GENERATOR 1:
    • RATE knob set to 1 (lowest setting)
    • MAIN/CV rocker switch set to the MAIN position
    • SHAPE rocker switch set to the upper sine wave position
    • • SWEEP GEN 2:
    • SHAPE rocker switch set to the lower square wave position
    • RATE knob set to 4
    • • PHASOR A:
    • DEPTH knob set to 10 (full setting)
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 6
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/CV) rocker switch set to upper GEN 1 position
    •  PHASOR B:
    • PHASOR B INPUT rotary switch set to OUT A position (to route the PHASOR A output into PHASOR B)
    • SWEEP SYNC (NORM/REV) rocker switch set to the upper NORM position
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/GEN 2/CV) rotary switch set the GEN 2 position (to set the SWEEP GEN 2 oscillatoras the modulation source for PHASOR B)
    • DEPTH knob set to 7
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 9

  6. Press both FOOTSWITCH A and FOOTSWITCH B so that PHASOR A and PHASOR B are both active. The respective indicator LEDs will light up to show the circuits are active. (7) Play something on your instrument to hear the phasing effect.

  7. Make small adjustments as you feel necessary. We recommend you first adjust the SWEEP GEN 2 RATE knob in small increments around the original setting of 4.
After that, try adjusting the DEPTH and FEEDBACK controls in the PHASOR A and PHASOR B sections.

Lush Phasing
This Lush Phasing setup again runs the PHASOR A output directly into PHASOR B, but this time PHASOR A and B are both controlled from SWEEP GENERATOR 1, while SWEEP GEN 2 is effectively disabled.

  1. Repeat Steps 1–4 from Basic Phasing above.

  2. For Lush Phasing, set the main panel controls to the following settings:
    • • SWEEP GENERATOR 1:
    • RATE knob set to 2
    • MAIN/CV rocker switch set to the MAIN position
    • SHAPE rocker switch set to the upper sine wave position
    • • SWEEP GEN 2:
    • Disabled (PHASOR B SWEEP switch set to GEN 1)
    • • PHASOR A:
    • DEPTH knob set to 10 (full setting)
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 8
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/CV) rocker switch set to upper GEN 1 position
    • • PHASOR B:
    • PHASOR B INPUT rotary switch set to the OUT A position (to route the PHASOR A output into PHASOR B)
    • SWEEP SYNC (NORM/REV) rocker switch set to the upper NORM position
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/GEN 2/CV) rotary switch set the GEN 1 position
    • DEPTH knob set to 10
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 9

  3. Press both FOOTSWITCH A and FOOTSWITCH B so that PHASOR A and PHASOR B are both active. The respective indicator LEDs will light up to show the circuits are active.

  4. Play something on your instrument to hear the phasing effect.

  5. Make small adjustments as you feel necessary. We recommend you first adjust the SWEEP GENERATOR 1 RATE knob in small increments around the original setting. After that, try varying the FEEDBACK controls in the PHASOR  A and PHASOR B sections.

Stereo Phasing
This Stereo Phasing setup runs a single input through PHASOR A and PHASOR B in parallel, with parallel output channels for two amplifiers in stereo. This dualamp arrangement will produce a distinct feeling of stereo movement between the two amplifiers.

  1. Connect the power supply to the DC IN jack.

  2. Connect your instrument to the IN A jack.

  3. Connect the OUT A jack to your left amplifier (left channel).

  4. Connecting the OUT B jack to your right amplifier (right channel).

  5. Press the POWER switch to power on the unit.

  6. For Stereo Phasing, set the main panel controls to the following settings:
    • • SWEEP GENERATOR 1:
    • RATE knob set to 4
    • MAIN/CV rocker switch set to the MAIN position
    • SHAPE rocker switch set to the upper sine wave position
    • • SWEEP GEN 2:
    • Disabled (PHASOR B SWEEP switch set to GEN 1)
    • • PHASOR A (left channel):
    • DEPTH knob set to 10 (full setting)
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 8
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/CV) rocker switch set to upper GEN 1 position
    • • PHASOR B (right channel):
    • PHASOR B INPUT rotary switch set to the IN A position (so PHASOR B processes the single input in parallel with PHASOR A)
    • SWEEP SYNC (NORM/REV) rocker switch set to the upper NORM position
    • SWEEP (GEN 1/GEN 2/CV) rotary switch set the GEN 1 position
    • DEPTH knob set to 10
    • FEEDBACK knob set to 9

  7. Press both FOOTSWITCH A and FOOTSWITCH B so that PHASOR A and PHASOR B are both active.
The respective indicator LEDs will light up to show the circuits are active.

  8. Play something on your instrument to hear the stereo phasing effect through the dual amplifiers.

  9. As a first adjustment, try moving the SHAPE switch on SWEEP GENERATOR 1 to the lower square wave setting (this adjustment will result in a more distinct “jump” in the stereo movement).
Reducing the DEPTH and/or FEEDBACK settings will make the stereo movement more subtle (adjust PHASOR A and PHASOR B equally if you wish to keep the stereo image balanced and symmetrical).
