THIN CAST STONE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
67S-5T-8E Thin Cast Stone
TOOLS NEEDED:
Drill; 3/16” Drill bit and countersink; #8 to #12 screws – 3” long and
2.25” long; level. Also need 1 ea. 50” long 2×4 mounting board.
STEP 1:
Draw a line on the wall to indicate the desired placement of the top shelf
plate (Fig. 1).
STEP 2:
Using the line drawn as instructed above, measure down from that line 3/4” and
draw a 2nd line. Make sure this line is straight and level. Locate and mark
location of at least 3 wall studs. Using the 2nd line that is 3/4” below top
line, align top edge of 2×4 mounting board with the 2nd line and secure into
wall with 3” screws, screwing into at least 3 wall studs (Fig. 2).
STEP 3:
Pre-drill a screw hole with countersink through the “thick portion” of the top
shelf plate. This hole should be 3/4” in from the back side of shelf plate.
Repeat this step for other “thick portion” of shelf plate (Fig. 3).
STEP 4:
(Optional) Put adhesive on back side edges of mantel breast section. Lift
mantel shelf top into place with 2×4 mounting board now on the inside of the
shelf cavity. CAUTION: Hold firmly in place. One person should be holding the
shelf in the front until it is secured into place on the mounting board. For
final correct alignment, move left or right as needed. Using at least 2” long
screws, secure shelf to mounting board.
CAUTION: Do not overtighten screws, just snug.
STEP 5:
Touch up finish provided. make any final touch up needed. It is recommended to
add a sealer to this finish. Brush on a lowlustre, water-based concrete
sealer.
