The MT-100 is supplied with 2 x AAA batteries, which should be inserted into the rear battery compartment. Slide off the battery compartment cover, insert the batteries observing the correct polarity and carefully replace the cover. The rear of the MT-100 also has a pop-out spring support for free-standing operation.

Switch between tuning or metronome mode by holding down the “M/T” button for 2 seconds.

In tuning mode, the MT-100 can detect a pitch using its internal microphone. Hold the MT-100 close to the instrument and play a note. The detected note will be displayed on the screen with a virtual needle showing the tuning status (flat – in tune – sharp), which is also shown on 3 LEDs above the screen.

A choice of chromatic or 4 instrument tuning modes can be selected by short- pressing the “M/T” button. The A4 reference pitch of the tuner is 440Hz as standard but may be calibrated by using the up/down ▴▾ buttons to adjust between 430Hz and 450Hz when tuning to other instruments or tracks that may be slightly off pitch.

Alternatively, using the supplied clip pickup attached to an instrument headstock or body and plugged directly into the MT-100 6.3mm input jack can help to avoid incorrect note detection from background noise. An electric guitar, bass or other instrument may also be plugged directly into this input.

For tuning by ear, the MT-100 can be set to play a reference note by pressing the Pitch Generator button (labelled with musical notes) and setting the required note via the up/down ▴▾ buttons.

This reference note can be heard from the built-in speaker and adjusted using the edge-mounted output volume control. Alternatively, for quiet operation, a pair of standard earphones may be connected to the 3.5mm headphones jack for personal monitoring, which also mutes the built-in speaker.

In metronome mode, the MT-100 displays a virtual pendulum, which swings left and right as a mechanical metronome would. This is again mirrored by the LEDs above the LCD screen.

On each beat, an audible click is played through the built-in speaker (or headphones) and an accented click (higher pitch) is played on the first beat of each bar or phrase.

To start or stop the metronome, short-press the power on/off button. Adjust the tempo using the up/down ▴▾ buttons. The number of beats per bar can be selected using the “M/T” button and the beat pattern can be selected using the pitch generator (musical notes) button.

When not being used, press and hold the On/Off button to power the tuner down and preserve the battery. After 3 minutes with no note detected, the tuner will automatically power down.
