Starizona CPC 800 Counterweight Kit

Product Information

The CPC-800 Counterweight Set is designed to properly balance your P C telescope. It includes a set of counterweights that need to be added to both the top and bottom of the optical tube. The bottom part of the weight set features a sliding bar that allows for balance adjustment from front to back. The top weight is necessary to achieve accurate balance.

Parts List

  • 2 Stainless Steel Top Weights (small and large)
  • 1 Bottom Weight
  • 1 Slide Rail
  • 1 Slide Rail Spacer
  • 1 Threaded Rod
  • 2 Short Hex-Head Screws
  • 1 Long Hex-Head Screw

Product Usage Instructions

Attaching the Top Weights

  1. Remove the screw from the top front of the optical tube.
  2. Thread the small and large weights included with the counterweight set into this screw hole in any combination to properly balance the telescope.

Attaching the Bottom Rail

  1. Remove one screw from the bottom front and two screws from the bottom rear of the optical tube.
  2. Attach the rear of the rail using the two included short screws.
  3. Attach the front of the rail using the long hex-head screw and the spacer.
  4. Install the threaded rod and counterweight onto the slide bar.

Balancing the Telescope

  1. Loosen the altitude clutch on the telescope.
  2. Point the telescope vertically.
  3. Add or remove counterweights to balance the telescope vertically.
  4. If you already have a heavy item on top of the scope, you may not need the top weights. Instead, use the bottom threaded counterweight to balance vertically.
  5. Next, point the telescope horizontally and slide the bottom counterweight forward or backward to balance any heavy accessories  (such as eyepieces or a camera) at the back of the telescope.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q: Can I use the counterweight set with other telescope models?
A: The CPC-800 Counterweight Set is specifically designed for PC telescopes. It may not be compatible with other telescope models.  Please refer to the product documentation or contact the manufacturer for compatibility information.

  • Q: How do I know the correct combination of top weights to achieve balance?
A: The correct combination of top weights depends on the specific weight distribution of your telescope. It may require some trial and error to find the optimal combination. Start with equal  weights on both sides and adjust as needed for balance.

  • Q: Can I use the counterweight set without the sliding  bar?
A: The sliding bar included in the counterweight set allows for balance adjustment from front to back. While it is recommended to use the sliding bar for optimal balance, you may still be able to achieve balance without it by adjusting the top and bottom weights.

To properly balance your P C telescope, you need to add counterweights to both the top and bottom of the optical tube. The bottom part of this weight set includes a sliding bar which allows balance from front to back. The top weight is necessary to achieve accurate balance.

Parts List

    1. Stainless Steel Top Weights (small and large)
    1. Bottom Weight 1) Slide Rail
    1. Slide Rail Spacer
    1. Threaded Rod
    1. Short Hex-Head Screws
    1. Long Hex-Head Screw

Attaching the Top Weights

Remove the screw from the top front of the optical tube. The small and large weights included with the counterweight set can be threaded into this screw hole in any combination to properly balance the telescope.

Attaching the Bottom Rail

Remove one screw from the bottom front and two screws from the bottom rear of the optical tube. Use the two included short screws to attach the rear of the rail and the long hex-head screw to attach the front of the rail using the spacer. Install the threaded rod and counterweight onto the slide bar.

Balancing the Telescope

  • Loosen the altitude clutch on the telescope. Point the telescope vertically. Add or remove counterweights to balance the telescope vertically. If you have a heavy item on top of the scope already, you may not need the top weights. Instead, use the bottom threaded counterweight to balance vertically.
  • Next, point the telescope horizontally and slide the bottom counterweight forward or backward to balance any heavy accessories (such as eyepieces or a camera at the back of the telescope. For more information see:
