  • The descriptions in this quick start guide are based on the smartphone being set to its default factory settings.
  • If you want to extend the functions provided by the smartphone, you must set-up a Google account. A Google account can provide convenient functions, such as automatic backup of your contacts. You can also install more apps (applications) via Google Play. How to set up a Google account is explained on Page 110. The basic functions of the smartphone are available for use without a Google account.
  • The applications (apps) preinstalled on your smartphone are automatically updated when an internet connection is available. This is important and sensible to receive function improvements and clear faults. Under certain circumstances, updates can lead to apps (applications) no longer working properly or functions being changed or discarded. In the case of doubt, please contact the manufacturer of the respective app.
  • Manual modification of the apps (applications) preinstalled on the smartphone or the AndroidTM operating system can lead to damage to the smartphone. Please note that in such cases, the terms of warranty related to the smartphone are annulled by GO Europe GmbH.
  • The automatic updating of preinstalled applications (apps), installation of other apps or downloading of pictures, video or audio files may result in extra costs from your mobile service provider. Please contact your mobile service provider to draw up an appropriate tariff.

Intended Use

The NEO MINI smartphone, subsequently referred to as the smartphone, is designed for use within a smartphone network. Any other use is considered unintended use. Unauthorised modification or alterations are not permitted; doing so leads to loss of rights of claims under the terms of guarantee and warranty. Under no circumstances open the smartphone or try and complete any repair work yourself.

First Steps
The operating manual is a part of the device. It contains important information regarding safety, use and disposal. Familiarize yourself with all the information concerning the operation and safety of the product before starting to use it. Only use the product in the way described and within the area of application specified. If you pass the product on to third parties, be sure to hand over all the documents with it.

Putting the Smartphone Into Operation

Before you can start to use the smartphone, you must set it up for operation as described in the following sections.

Inserting the SIM Card
Before you can use your smartphone, you must insert your SIM card (not included in the package purchased). The smartphone also offers the Dual SIM function, which means that you can install two SIM cards.
The smartphone can be fitted with SIM cards of the following formats:

  • 1 × micro SIM card and 1 × nano SIM card.
  • 1 Remove the battery compartment cover 11.
  • 2 Insert the SIM card in the corresponding slot. Ensure the SIM card is aligned correctly.

Inserting a MicroSD Memory Card (Option)
If you want to increase the memory capacity of the smartphone, you can insert a microSD memory card (not included in the package purchased) with a memory of up to 128 GB in the smartphone.
You need a microSD memory card, for example, if you want to take lots of photos or record lots of videos with the camera.

  1. Place the microSD memory card in the compartment with the contacts facing down, as illustrated. Pay attention that the microSD memory card is aligned correctly.

Inserting the Battery
Before you can use your smartphone, you must insert the rechargeable battery supplied.

  1. Insert the battery as shown. When doing so, ensure the battery is aligned correctly.
  2. Replace the battery compartment cover 11. The battery compartment cover 11 latches audibly into place.

Charging the Smartphone (Power Adapter)
You can charge the smartphone using the USB cable and power adapter plug contained in the package purchased.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the power adapter.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port 123 on the smartphone.
  3. Connect the plug on the power adapter to a properly installed power socket.
    CAUTION! Do not remove the battery while the smartphone is being charged. This could damage the smartphone. Disconnect the plug of the power adapter from the smartphone before changing or removing the battery.Olympia-NEO-

Charging the Smartphone (Charging Cradle)
You can charge the smartphone using the charging cradle contained in the package purchased.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the power adapter.
  2. Connect the USB cable to the charging cradle.
  3. Connect the plug on the power adapter to a properly installed power socket.
  4. Insert the smartphone in the charging cradle with the charge contacts 15 facing down.

Operating the Smartphone

The smartphone is generally operated using a touch-sensitive display. Touch and swipe your fingers directly on the screen in order to navigate through the menus and start functions. Alternatively, you can use an appropriate stylus. The following overview indicates the finger movements to use:

  • Tap your finger on the buttons or elements to start functions.
  • Swipe your finger through lists and views to scroll in them.
  • Draw two fingers apart on an element or view on the screen to zoom in. This finger movement is not avail-able in all applications.
  • Move two fingers towards each other on an element or view on the screen to zoom out. This finger movement is not available in all applications.

Function Keys
The following overview illustrates the function available; the SOS button is also available on the rear of the smartphone.

  • Call button
    Open the telephone function, take a call and end a call in progress.

  • Home key
    Switch to the start screen and switch between applications (keep pressed).

  • Back button
    Navigate one menu step back.

  • Increase volume button
    Increase the volume of ringing tones, conversations and media playback (louder).

  • Lower volume button
    Lower the volume of ringing tones, conversations and media playback (quieter).

  • On/Off button
    Switch the smartphone on/off, restart it or create a screen-shot.

Switching the Smartphone On

  1. Press the On/Off ****button for 3 seconds.
    The smartphone is switched on. The start screen appears after a short time. When switching the smartphone on for the first time, see Page 98.

Switching the Smartphone Off

  1. Press the On/Off button for 3 seconds.
  2. Tap on the ┣Off┫ button.
    • The smartphone is switched off. The screen display goes out.

Screen Lock
The screen lock on the smartphone ensures that functions cannot be started accidentally via the elements in the display. When the screen lock is activated, only the screen is switched off, the smartphone can still be reached.

Locking the Screen

  1. Press the On/Off ****button briefly.
    • The screen goes out, the screen lock is activated.

Unlocking the Screen

  1. Press any button briefly.
    • The screen lock display appears.
  2. Depending on the type of screen lock you have selected:
    • draw the pattern you have defined.
    • enter your PIN or password.
    • swipe your finger over the display from bottom to top.
  3. Adapt the screen lock as necessary using the ┣All Apps┫ > ┣Settings┫ > ┣Security┫ > ┣Screen lock┫ menu option.

Starting the Smartphone for the First Time
After switching on the smartphone for the first time, you are assisted by a set-up wizard through all the necessary steps to configure the smartphone.

  1. Press the On/Off ****button for 3 seconds.

  2. Enter the PIN for your SIM card.
    Info: The PIN for your SIM card is enclosed with the contractual documents provided by your mobile service provider. If you have any queries, contact your smartphone provider.

  3. Select the language required in the start screen.

  4. Option: Tap on the ┣Settings for visually impaired┫ button if you want to use any operating aids (e.g. altering the font sizes or display size, read aloud function).

  5. Tap on the ┣START┫ button.

  6. If you are within the connection range of a wireless home network (WIFI), select the required wifi network and log on. Then tap on the ┣Connect┫ button. The smartphone then searches for updates. This process can take a few minutes.

  7. Option: Transfer apps and data from a different smartphone to your new smartphone. Follow the subsequent instructions displayed.

  8. Option: Log on using your Google account and configure the Google services. Follow the subsequent instructions displayed.

  9. Define a PIN for the smartphone.

  10. Follow the subsequent instructions provided by the set-up wizard.

    • When the configuration work is completed successfully, the start screen appears.

Start Screen
The start screen displays the following elements:

  1. Status bar
  2. Application (app)
  3. All Applications
  4. Time and Date

Swipe with your finger on the screen from right to left to display more apps.

Screen Keyboard
To enter characters and digits, you can use the screen keyboard which appears in the display. The screen keyboard appears in the smartphone display as soon as you tap on a corresponding input field.

  1. Tap on any input field on the screen. The screen keyboard appears.

  2. Tap on the screen keyboard to enter the relevant characters and digits.
    Info: Press and hold on a character to select further characters/special characters.

  3. Optionally: Press on the Back ****button to clear the screen keyboard from the display.

Status Bar
The status bar is at the top margin of the screen and displays messages and provides quick access to selected functions.

You can open out the status bar and view further information on notifications and for quick access to various functions:

  1. Tap a finger on the status bar and swipe downwards on the screen.
    • The status bar is opened.

Making a Call

  1. Press the Call ****button. The phone app appears.
  2. Enter the required phone number using the dialpad displayed. Incorrect digits can be deleted using the ┣X┫ button.
  3. Tap on the ┣Dial┫ button.
    • The phone number is dialled.

Taking a Call
The smartphone need not be unlocked in order to receive a call.

  1. Swipe your finger from the bottom to the top of the screen.
    • The incoming call is taken.
  2. Alternatively, press the Call ****button. The incoming call is taken.

Rejecting a Call

  1. Swipe your finger from the middle to the bottom of the screen.
    • The incoming call is rejected.

Writing Messages (SMS/MMS)

  1. Tap on the ┣SMS/MMS┫ button and then on the ┣Write┫ button.
  2. Enter the name or phone number of the recipient using the screen keyboard. Alternatively, tap on the ┣+┫ button and select one or more contacts from the phone book.
  3. Enter the text for the message using the screen keyboard.
  4. Tap on the ┣Send┫ button.
    • The text message is sent.

Speed Dialling Via Picture
The speed dialling via picture function enables you to call your favourite contacts conveniently and directly. You can define up to six contacts for speed dialling via picture function.

  1. Press the Home ****button.
    • The start screen appears.
  2. Swipe your finger from left to right on the screen. The speed dialling via picture appears.
  3. Tap on an empty picture (1 – 6).
  4. Select a contact from the phone book and tap on the ┣+ Add┫ button.
    • The contact selected is defined as a speed dialling via picture contact.

SOS Key (Emergency Call Function)
You can initiate an emergency call by using the SOS key. You will hear an SOS signal first of all. Then the SOS messages are sent to the phone numbers defined in succession. Following that, the numbers are then dialled, in succession,via the handsfree function. Up to 5 phone numbers can be assigned for the SOS function.
Note: Never assign official emergency call numbers (112). A false alarm can lead to considerable costs which could be charged to you.

Assigning Phone Numbers to the SOS Function

  1. Navigate to the ┣All Apps┫ > ┣SOS┫ menu option.
  2. Tap on the ┣SOS Numbers┫ button.
  3. Enter the required phone number using the screen keyboard and confirm it with the ┣OK┫ button.

Using Internet
A web browser (Chrome) is already installed on the smartphone and can be used to open websites.
Note: A condition for using the internet is that the smartphone is logged on in a wireless network (WIFI) or the SIM card installed is provided with an appropriate mobile tariff.

  1. Navigate to the ┣All Apps┫ > ┣Chrome┫ menu option.
    Note: When opening the web browser for the first time, you must read the site policy and accept it, if you agree.

  2. Enter the required search term or website (e.g. www.go-europe.com) in the input field.

    • The result of the search or web site specified is displayed.

Useful Functions

Your smartphone provides other useful functions.

Adapting the Apps on the Start Screen
You can adapt the apps displayed on the start screen. Select other apps that you want to display on the start screen or delete from the start screen.

  1. Press the Home ****button. The start screen appears.
  2. Tap on the ┣All Apps┫ button.
  3. Tap on the ┣+┫ button beside an app in order to display it on the start screen.
  4. Tap on the ┣-┫ button beside an app in order to delete it from the start screen.

Setting Up a Google Account
You can set-up a Google account at a later date in order to receive further helpful functions and have access to other apps via Google Play.

  1. Navigate to the ┣All Apps┫ > ┣Settings┫ > ┣Accounts┫ menu option.
  2. Tap on the ┣Add Account┫ button.
  3. Tap on the ┣Google┫ button.
  4. Register using your existing Google account or tap on the ┣Create account┫ button to set-up a new Google account.
  5. Follow the instructions to create the Google account.

Adjusting Settings
You can adjust various settings defined in the smartphone to meet your own requirements. You can adjust the volume level of ringing tones or the brightness of the display, for example.

  1. Navigate to the ┣All Apps┫ > ┣Settings┫ menu option.
  2. Adjust the settings to meet your needs.

Creating a Screenshot

  1. Press the On/Off ****button for 3 seconds.
  2. Tap on the ┣Screenshot┫ button.
  3. Alternatively: Press the On/Off and Lower volume buttons simultaneously, only briefly.
    • A photo of the current screen content is made.

Troubleshooting

Even in the case of the smartphone, it is possible that something does not work as it should. The following information should help to solve the problem.

Restarting the Smartphone

  1. Press the On/Off ****button for 3 seconds.
  2. Tap on the ┣Restart┫ button. The smartphone is restarted.
  3. Wait until the start screen appears in the display.

If the smartphone cannot be restarted in this way, proceed as follows:

  1. Remove the battery from the smartphone and wait a moment.
  2. Insert the battery back in the phone (see Page 84).
  3. Press the On/Off ****button for 3 seconds to switch the smartphone on.

Restoring the Default Factory Settings
If the problem cannot be solved otherwise, it may be helpful to reset the default factory settings. Please note that after being reset the smartphone must be set up and configured again.

  1. Navigate to ┣All Apps┫ > ┣Settings┫ > ┣System┫ > ┣Advanced┫ > ┣Reset Options┫ menu option.
    Important! As a result of resetting the default factory settings, all your personal settings and data will be deleted from the smartphone!

  2. Tap on the ┣Erase all data (factory reset)┫ button.

  3. Wait a few minutes until the process has finished.

  4. Set-up your smartphone again (see Page 34).

Deleting Personal Data
Delete any personal data on the device before disposing of it.

Disposal

  • Familiarize yourself with the options available concerning the return of old equipment and used batteries free of charge through your dealer.
  • The adjacent symbol indicates that electrical and electronic apparatus and batteries no longer required must be disposed of separate from domestic waste in accordance with legal directives. Dispose of the device at a collection point provided by your local waste authorities.
