Product Usage Instructions

  • Step 1: Cast On
    • Using 16 (#8) circular needles, cast on 96 stitches for an average woman. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of your round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
  • Step 2 : Knitting Rounds
    • Rounds 1-14: Knit around
    • Round 15: (Knit 6, k2tog) repeat around. (84 stitches)
    • Round 16: Knit around
    • Round 17: (Knit 5, k2tog) Repeat around. (72 stitches)
  • Step 3: Crown Shaping
    • Continue knitting until the crown measures 6 inches from the first decrease round.
    • Round 1: (K7, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 2: and each even number round: Knit plain around.
    • Round 3: (K6, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 5: (K5, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • When circular needles become too long for the decreasing amount of stitches, begin knitting off onto double-point needles, 2 sections per needle. Alternatively, if you know how to work in the round with 2 circulars, divide the knitting in half while knitting around.
    • Round 7: (K4, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 9: (K3, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 11: (K2, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 13: (K1, K2tog). Repeat around.
    • Round 15: Knit 2tog.
  • Step 4: Finishing
    • Only 2 stitches remain in each section. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and remove stitches from the needle. Pull to gather and close the top opening. Weave in the remaining tail.

  • Crochet hook size: H
  • Chain 46
  • In 2nd chain from hook, HDC 2 times.
  • (Slip stitch in next chain. Chain 7, slip stitch in the same chain to form the petal) Repeat from * until you reach the end of your chain.
  • Leave a 12” long tail. Wind up the long piece you’ve just made to form the flower. Stitch the flowers together, making sure to grab all the edges of the chain. Stitch your flower to the hat.
  • NOTES: For a larger flower, increase the number of chains and/or increase the size of your crochet hook. Add a button or pearl to the center of the flower for a fun variation. If a button is added, the HDC can be omitted.
