LW 5 Series
Note: The Installer must verify all rough-in dimensions before installation and consult local and national codes. Conformity and compliance with local and national codes are the responsibility of the installer.
Installation
- Connect the clamp-down drain assembly (C) to the existing waste line via no-hub rubber coupling, PVC cement, or ABS pipe cement, and allow the drain body (C2) to recess into the subfloor. Ensure that drain assembly (C) is level. Unscrew and remove the top clamp-down plate (C1) from drain body (C2).
- Spread a primary mortar bed across the intended shower area. Pitch this bed in four directions towards the drain body (C2).
- When the mortar layer is dry, perform necessary waterproofing (PVC Liner, Rubber Liner, Lead Pan, Copper Pan, Hot Mop, Fiberglass) as per local code. Ensure the waterproofing layer reaches the edge of the hole in the drain body (C2).
- Reattach the top clamp-down plate (C1) to the clamp-down drain body (C2) over the waterproofing layer using bolts. Thread the throat (B) of the drain into the top clamp-down plate (C1). Adjust to the desired height. Turn clockwise to lower, counter-clockwise to raise. When determining desired height, including the thickness of mortar, thinset, and finishing material.
- Using the desired floor material, mark the thickness of the material along the outside of the throat (B) so that it will finish 1/16” above the channel. Lay gravel or other porous substrate over weep holes of the top clamp-down plate (C1). Spread a final mortar bed up to the marked thickness, less the thickness of thinset. Pitch this bed in all directions toward the center drain. Once dry, apply a bead of silicone caulk around the throat (B). Lay thinset and finishing material. Have material finish to the edge of the throat (B). DO NOT allow finishing material to finish on top of the stainless steel channel edge.
- LTD 5/RTD 15/TD15/TD20 SERIES ONLY: Spread a layer of mortar into the strainer (A), allowing for thinset and finishing material to finish 1/16” above the metal frame. Allow to dry, spread thinset, and lay material. Place the top strainer (A) into the throat (B) of the drain.
- LW 5 SERIES: Place the strainer (A) into the throat (B) and fasten using screws at each corner.
- MUD GUARD: Drill a 1” hole in the marked location of the factory-installed mudguard. Place your finger into the hole and pull out. Place the magnetic G-Series strainer (A) into the throat (B) (Each sold separately)
Note: The Installer must verify all rough-in dimensions prior to installation and consult local and national codes. Conformity and compliance to local and national codes are the responsibility of the installer.
Installation Instructions
The Bonded Flange Center Drain Series is intended for use with the following

-
Set the bonded flange into a wet pre-laid bed of mortar and allow the bonded flange drain body (C) to recess into the subfloor. Connect the drain body (C) to the existing waste line using PVC cement or ABS pipe cement. If no access to the drain pipe is available from below, prep the outlet of the bonded flange (C) with PVC or ABS primer and cement and push fit into the existing waste line as you set the bonded flange into the mortar. Ensure that drain assembly (C) is level. Remove top threaded ring (C1) from drain body (C2). Note: The outlet of the bonded flange drain body (C2) can be made to be used with a 2”, 3”, OR 4” waste line by cutting the outlet section down to the desired section size.
-
Install backer board, cement board, or other desired backing material onto framed walls as per local code.
-
Spread a mortar bed across the intended shower area. Ensure the starting height of the mortar bed at the drain is flush with the flange of the drain body (C2) at the drain. Pitch this mortar bed in four directions towards the drain body (C2).
-
When the mortar layer is dry, perform necessary waterproofing (Liquid /Fabric Waterproofing) as per local code. Ensure the waterproofing layer reaches the edge of the hole in the drain body (C2).
-
Set the top threaded ring (C1) onto the bonded flange drain body (C2) using a thin set and position to the desired location within the drain body (C2).
Note: When overall build-up up greater than ¼” above waterproofing is needed (excluding finished floor material thickness) use mortar to set the top threaded ring (C1). -
Once the thinset/mortar is dry, thread the throat (B) into the top threaded ring (C1). Adjust to the desired height. Turn clockwise to lower, counter-clockwise to raise. When determining desired height, include the thickness of thinset and finishing material.
Model| Overall Minimum Height| Overall Maximum **Height***
---|---|---
LTD 5 B| 1”| 2”
RTDB 15| ¹³⁄¹⁶”| 1 ⁷⁄¹⁶”
TDB 15| 1 ⁵⁄¹⁶”| 1 ¹⁵⁄¹⁶”
TDB 20| 1 ⁵⁄¹⁶”| 2 ¹⁄¹⁶” -
Using desired floor material, mark the thickness of the material along the outside of the throat (B), so that it will finish 1/16” above the channel. Spread thinset/mortar bed up to the marked thickness. Ensure this bed is pitched in all directions toward the center drain. If using a mortar build-up, apply a bead of silicone caulk around the throat after the mortar is dry. Lay the finishing material, and have the material finish to the edge of the throat (B). DO NOT allow finishing material to finish on top of the stainless steel channel edge.
-
Remove the strainer (A) from the throat (B).
- LTDB 5: Set finishing material of a thickness up to 3/8” directly into the strainer using thinset.
- RTDB15/TDB15/TDB20: Set finishing material of a thickness 3/4” directly into the strainer using thinset. If finishing material is less than 3/4”, spread a layer of mortar into the top frame of the strainer (A), allowing for thinset and finishing material to finish 1/16” above the metal frame. Allow to dry, spread thin-set, and lay material. Place the top frame of strainer (A) back into the throat (B).
